Janis, sure but, really, can anyone compare Joan Baez and Grace Slick? Or Melanie. Or Linda Ronstadt for that matter. That's like comparing Steve Perry to James Taylor. This is a real Ty Cobb/Pete Rose comparison if I've ever seen one. Not fair on any level.

When considering range/power/singingonkey/etc, Grace was the undisputed Queen. and we all know Steven Tyler has THE BEST voice in rock and Pete Rose was a cheater.

Now, did Grace shape the scene for future female singers (ala Ann)? Absolutely. But I still don't think she was all that great. If you want to talk her and Ann, I think Ann annihilates her.

Perhaps she does not deserve the karioke refference but I'll stand by my overall opinion that, well,.... she does not belong anywhere near number two on that list. When I can say "Wow.... that chick's got pipes!!"... that's my gauge. I don't think Grace demonstrated the type of range that would make me say that. Another gauge I use is live performance. I have heard some pretty ragged vocals. I just don't rate her that high. As far as that list, you can argue almost any pick. For my taste, some are rated way to high, and some way to low. Peace, my motor-scooter brother!!!

I loved Marty's voice but Grace I can live without. She was an embarrassment. She couldn't even get along with Frank Zappa-that's pretty sad. I remember Marty relaying that they had a drummer who was with Grace, and they had a band meeting to dismiss him because he was just too sauced all the time. "Then we had another meeting to figure out who was going to sleep with Grace." Pathetic. And don't forget the "nazi" concert in germany. That was classic.

He is the unsung hero of the airplane. as for grace i remember her suggesting that all the women bare their breasts at woodstock to stop the rain. every time I do a gig in the rain I use that line.... it dosen't work for me I just get branded as a jerk

I'll go so far to say that she was a compitant singer, a serviceable singer. I just don't think... again IMO... that she was a great singer, or a fabulous singer worthy of being rated as singer among singers.

Not saying they're bad or karaoke singers, I just personally don't like them. And Al, it wasn't just the one song, that was just me goofin', but there is something to be said that she played her part in THE ABSOLUTELY WORST ROCK SONG EVER! That list is bullshit too. I see new names on there like Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, Anna Nalick, Courtney Love... But no Brandi Carlile? I call BS for sure.
