Having lived a good chunk of life in Jersey/Philly area, I can't tell you how much I miss good Pizza.

Down here Vahginyah way, they just don't get it.

Al, could you send along a little something from Tuscana's with the guitar? Just not in the case. Mushroom and sausage would be fine.

Pizza is non-existent in Phoenix. but what they do make, and is really good, is basically an "open face" quesadilla which is a tortilla covered with cheese, chicken, peppers, onions, then baked and covered with salsa. Very tasty. Dave

I've done road trips for less important things than pizza.

...yours is a good and fair question, so let me offer another answer as to why Christians feel so compelled to "share" about their personal faith: another reason we do it is because that's what Jesus told us to do: he commanded us to "go...and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:18-19)

Another biblical image that might help explain some Christian's 'weird' (by the world's standards) behavior of talking to people about their faith (like the guy who asked if you were a Christian - I know why he did that; churches are the primary sales outlet for electronic drums, because the drum volume can be controlled for a number of musical styles and situations - we use them in our church); is this image:

Christians are called "the body of Christ;" he is called our "head." Therefore, the body (when operating in a healthy way) does what the head commands and directs it to do; we are simply being Christ's agents/emmisaries/ representatives on earth, fulfilling his calling on our lives.

I apologize if this is Too Much Information, but I'm hoping it will at least help you have a better understanding of "where we're coming from," and then perhaps you can be somewhat forgiving of our enthusiasm (as long as we don't cross the line of being too pushy, obnoxious, etc.).

You've been more than patient with us...for that we thank you; and we hopefully will be the same with you (and with cwk2 for his comments about open golf courses on Easter morning; but he did make a humorous point! At least I thought it was funny; because its' so true...and I always consider it a good round if I come home with more balls than I started with...)

Of course he could just have asked what sort of venues they were going to be used in. My beliefs are my own, they are deeply held and they are none of anybody else's business. He's lucky he didn't ask me.

I was going to stay out of this (and more than you probably care to know) but...

I was baptized and confirmed, with very strong religious beliefs. I am Roman Catholic. And, I appreciate and recognize the Greek and Russian Orthodox.

I attempt to lead my life appropriately in words and actions. Not as proselyter but to lead by example. I have friends of a number of religions and beliefs. Within my direct ancestory, I have nine saints of the Greek and Russian Orthodox Church, Callimachus (as the Librarian of Alexandria) who had the Jewish scrolls translated into Greek becoming the foundation of the Old Testament, Helen of the Cross (wife of Aurelius Valerius Chloris Constantinius, mother of Constantine), Olga Svyatoslav of Kiev who introduced Christianity to the "pagan" lands, etc. Yet, my grandfather was a 32nd degree Mason, Henry VIII is a cousin, Hunneric of the Vandals is a grandfather, Aaron (brother of Moses) is a grandfather, etc.

However, when I am asked if I am a "Christian", I no longer know the definition of "Christian." Two thousand years ago, it had a narrow definition. Now, I have been told I am not a "Christian" if I am not "born again" and of that particular religion or sect. Take a poll, I really doubt if those on the OFC belong to the same religion and have the same doctrinal beliefs.

Don't misunderstand me...for those on the OFC that are using their gift of music in their worship services, as I did for five years in the early 1980's, I commend you. I encourage OFC'ers in their enthusiasm and their contribution to their faith. I also support the ability for them to discuss their music ministry.

However, if I get in a discussion of religion, as this last weekend, we are discussing what music and equipment they use in their personal service.

I will say this............any Christian faith tells of spreading the word of God. I am Baptist and while not trying to convert anyone I will invite them to our church and answer questions if they ask. When I said above about faith and spreading the word there are several references that tell of people to go and spread the gospel.

I believe actions and genuine concern through our day to day contact will do this without preaching to one.

Fact is............Jesus Christ died for our sins and by asking God for forgiveness and your sins and genuinally meaning it one will find peace and salvation.

I remember when I was 17 and feeling like I had no real meaning and breaking down and asking God to come into my life. Literally a ton of burden lifted from my heart. It was like a physical transformation and I try to grow spiritually stronger each and every day.

Am I still a sinner? YES, we all will be until the day we die. I still cuss when I get mad and ask for forgiveness afterwards. I try not to judge others but understand them. I rambled enough.............I am glad Jesus walks with me, I need someone to keep me straight!

Here at work, instead of sick days, vacation days, etc., we have an annual "bank" of PTO (PersonalTimeOff) Days to do with what you wish.
Naturally, (with any good Corporation) there is a FORM that has to be filled out whenever you use these. I was just signing-off on a few for various members of my staff, and figured while I was at it, I'd fill one out for myself ahead-of-time for the Thurs/Fri. of the OFC Tour/Jam in June.

In the box for REASON FOR ABSENCE:

"Religious Retreat".

"PS - Why do I enjoy pissing gasoline on myself and then asking for a match."

The roar of the crowd? Are YOU picking on the Buddhists now Dave?

Please remind those at the Factory that if they opened up a Shop on the West Coast they would be playing golf today!

It has been said that more wars and violence have occurred in the name of religion than any other cause. I truly feel that most if not all were really due to humanity's perversion of religion. Unfortunately, the fervor associated with religion is at an emotional level, and many simply put their brain into park, forgetting the teachings of their faith. Thus we have people flying airplanes into buildings and people killing others for their "god".

and, conflict and war has created the unification of individuals to tribes, tribes to countries; as well as development of inventions (some good, some bad.)

religion has played a part of it but economics has played a strong part in conflict...sometimes, religion is used as the justification.

in the earliest times, more grazing land was the reason to invade territory.

Okay lets see if I can clear some of this up.

1. Biblical Christianity has NEVER been the cause of a war. However secular or religious Christianity has on many occasions for the last 2000 years. Do not get the two confused. They have nothing in common except name.

2. The god of the Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses etc is not the God of the Christians. There is one God and they don't know Him.

3. In response to Standingovation's comments on the top of page 4. You state that Christians are assuming that our beliefs are "better" then the ones they already have. That is far from the truth. We "know" our beliefs are better and since they come from God himself we know them to be 100% truthful. If you do not believe what God has said in His word then you are wrong. Sorry, I know it sounds harsh but that's the way it is. This is a free country and by right you can believe whatever you want, even if it's wrong but the laws of God are not the same as the laws of man. There is one truth, one God and one way to spend eternity with Him. Those of us that believe tell people about Jesus because we love them not because we want to show them we are right and they are wrong. Salvation is free because Jesus already paid the price for your sin when he died on the cross. Three days later he came back for 40 days to prove that he had the keys to death and hell. All one has to do is confess that they are a sinner (and we all are), repent (meaning to turn away from that lifestyle), ask Jesus to forgive you and make Him your Lord and Savior. Pretty simple eh?
Ten trillion years from now we will all be alive and the question is "will it be heaven or hell?" Whether you believe the gospel or not doesn't change the fact that it's true. My suggestion to you is this...ask God yourself. Say "Jesus if you are real show me". Be opened minded to the existence of truth. You are not an evolved monkey, you have a reason and purpose for being alive. Find it before it is too late. You have no guarantee of tomorrow.

Please note that I'm not getting in on this one. Last time I did, Willard left the board for 3 months, pissed.

Can we get back to Ovations, please?
