Yeah, Derek Trucks ... guitarist extrordinaire for the Allman Bros. I saw her when she opened for the Stones a year or so ago ... just fantastic!

You can download some of the recent Allman shows on E Mule. Derek and Warren Haynes are out of this world.

Crudup Brothers - Franktown Blues

The now late sons of Arthur Big Boy Crudup ("That's Alright Mama", Elvis' entry number) with such greats as Lonnie Mack, Tim Drummond and Fingers Taylor as sidemen. James Crudup died during the recording of this one. Jonas and George both died within a year. Fitting tribute to Big Boy. My friend Vic Peppler did the final mix on it. Its a mix of tributes and new material, as well some of it quite good songs that fit, such as "Fur Slippers" (written by Bob Dylan).

Just removed Larry Carlton's 'Finger Prints' and put in Chris Tomlin's 'Arriving'. On the player in my guitar workshop is 'Scars' by Gary Moore and 'Con La Lluvia' by Sergio Lara. 'Deep Into It' by Larry Carlton is loaded in my car.

Larry Carlton - saw him perform at a winery last year. Is there anything the guy can't do? AKUS was here last week too - killed me to miss them but couldn't go. Was really looking forward to seeing Jerry go at it.

Ah yes, Jimmy Buffet. No fish camp is complete without him playing in the background. I fondly remember getting his autograph once, right on the bottom of the American Express slip where he had to sign for 700 gallons of jetA at full retail. He was in Jacksonville playing at a Democratic rally.

In the car - Paco de Lucia sextet Live

In the house - Benjamin Britten - Simple Symphony

On the PC - Meeting of the Spirits - 2 glorious Custom Legends being played as they should be playeed. In full screen.

Glad to see that someone else loves Slow Train Comin'. It's always listed as Dylan's wqorst album - but I've always loved it.

Can't believe nobody's got Bob Seeger on somewhere.

Schroeder:

On that concert, Larry C. was playing a Custom Legend but John Mc. was playing a Custom Balladeer, and kicking the $%?t out of Larry, I must say.

Blind Lemon Parker ;)

Larry was totally outclassed - noticeable that "Between two Seas" was played at half speed. He tried hard - he knew he shouldn't have been there as well as the other 2 knew it.

I have read in several places that Larry walked into a NY after hours jam session in the late 60s where John McLaughlin was sitting in (Larry was a major star of the jazz scene at the time) and after 30 seconds turned to his wife and said "That is the greatest guitarist I ever heard in my life".

He tried hard.

Sorry I didn't recognise the 2 guitars correctly - it's just a joy to watch 2 Ovations like that.

To be fair to Larry - there are several moments in the concert where Paco looks at John with sheer disbelief and a shake of the head.

I used to think that JM was the greatest non-classical guitar player who ever lived. I went to see one of the world's greatest classical players in concert last weekend and I become ever more convinced that he is simply the best ever bar none.
