I use it mostly for plugged in stuff at church and it is a wonderful combination of comfort and sound. The comfort part is with respect to my own bowl, and the sound is magnificent plugged in. Of course, the only way to get one of those is to buy it overseas, Asia I think, or grab one of the FRGs here, which is what I did. It came pristine, mint, drop dead gorgeous. For unplugged stuff I'll always use my 6778LX or 1778T - bigger acoustic sound. BUT ... even unplugged the 1868LX is light years ahead of non-LX SS bowls. I wish the mothership hadn't shot them in the U.S. :(

Anyone else got the same opinion? I've got a SS Adamas/Elite hybrid 12-string that sounds incredibly good. Dave

Then the logical step would be make available what you are selling more of. If someone wants a shallowbowl they can still get one as a special order. so it all must come down to the ole marketing Supply/demand philosophy. just a guess though.

They're still listed on the Ovation web site and in the 2005 price list. However, if the traditional models themselves are phased out down the road by the LX line, then the end result would be the same and the SS bowls will be history. I guess time will tell.

Anyone else got the same opinion? . . ." Yup. While I don't own a ShallowBowl6 (wish I did - for gigs), the one's that I've played in stores just didn't throw me. My ShallowBowlLegend12 however doesn't sound all that bad. Naturally, it doesn't have anywhere NEAR the bass response of my DeepBowlUltra12 or my Pacemaker (or the bass response the Pacemaker WILL have when I finish w/it), it does have a nice jangly, "harpsichordian" quality to it. Kinda like a oversized mando. And you just can't beat the comfort of it . . .

If I were to seek out an 1866 Legend 12 string, would I be buying old technology or a stable, well developed instrument that is not "the latest and greatest"? I really enjoy the comfort factor of the shallow bowl.

Jim; For my purposes (predominantly playing to a bunch of drunks and at least two TV's), latest/greatest/bells/whistles/tuners/scalloped braces/toasted wheat underpinnings, etc., don't really enter into it. I'm pretty much looking for something that is reliable and bulletproof. The Legend12 that I got from Al (Thank You AGAIN, Al!) fits the bill outstandingly. Dave; I know, . . . . I KNOW!! I STILL think about that StealthAdamas, but the money/timing just wasn't right (f*&%#$g alimony!). Oh, well . . .

It has such little cosmetic finish, that is is super light, and has a penetrating sound, unlike any shallow bowl I ever tried. An important attraction to the this shallow bowl is that it is very light. For us aging hippies, its a lot easier on the back, and plugged in it sounds great. Tommy

If that was intentional it was a little too subtle. I'm looking for a good shallow bowl, too. Mainly because I don't have one and I think I should.

The latest musicians friend catalogue lists a 1861 Standard Balladeer for $699 including the Case. The ones you are dealing with now I would imagine are the leftover stock. You can also try Al to see if he has any.

I know one of these days I'll be looking at an LX or 2005 Collectors or wiat for the contour bowl to be standard. In the meantime my Legend is the workhorse and it performs....

She collected teapots that never had any tea in them. I tried to explain why I needed a 12 string as well as a 6 string, but she never really got it. We recently came to an understanding when I bought the Ultra GS and an amp on the same day. I didn't tell her about the amp! I needed a nonacoustic amp to go with the electric guitar, but couldn't think of an explanation that I thought she would understand. When she found out, she just said, "OK, now I get new carpet." If that works for her, it works for me. I'll trade one room for each new guitar. She also admired my "collection" (a whole 4 guitars)last night. I hope this understanding doesn't cost me too much.
