Woody, it sang to me. I couldn't believe they got that sweet of a tone out of Koa. I hope it's not going to be a hit and miss type of model, if you get the right piece of wood you get a great guitar, otherwise...
I've heard a lot of different opinions on both protos - I stick with my original - multi-hole, but with a darker wood epaullete, preferably darker than the Koa, grain running parallel to the Koa, 12 fret, slothead. I'm not sure about the abalone. I'd have to see it with the Koa, but I think it'd be smashing.

When we talked about them at the Q&A they asked which one we liked best - single-hole 12-fret slothead, or multi-hole 14-fret peghead. There was some discussion about mixing various aspects, but it wasn't long before 12 strings came up. Finally someone shouted out "Just make 4 of them!".

I really wished I'd video'd the Q&A, but I taped almost both entire tours and my battery was dead.

So when and where are we getting together this summer to jam, share guitars and watch your home movies? If you are able to head north let me know!

We'll be making a Silverwood run about mid-July. Maybe work in a little WA-OR-ID gathering!!!

Koa and Abalone go together like Pooka and sun tan oil!

Abalone on that koa would really jump.
Waskel...you and I might be in the minority in preffering the multi-hole. But like I said in another post...that particular style single hole reminded me of a Tacoma.
Also Waskel...If you have any video of BrianT and I, please be kind when editing. Remember....less is more.

Strange. I always thought the Tacoma reminded me of an Ovation....

Brad, do you mean less of Brian and more of you? :D I would take the single-hole IF it were the only option, but I thought the multi-hole looked a lot classier.

Woody, are you going to CMS this year?

Waskel and I spent time with both '06 prototype
guitars.

I like the multi hole. Didn't like the choice of wood for the inlay. The oval cut out sounded fine... It didn't look like an Ovation.

The inlay detail vs. an oval hole might be my hang up.

I preferred the 12-fret/SlotHead/OvalHole.

I'm starting t'get REALLY tired of that friggin' epaulet!!!
- ESPECIALLY when it's just cut out of one piece of contrasting-coloured wood! Yeah, I know . . . it's "inlaid". . . . still looks like a damn gunshot wound . . .

I did some research on Tacoma and one of the Hamer guys went to work for them. However Tacoma got the idea though, they owe a nod to ovation. It'll be interesting to see if Fender keeps the side sound ports. I do like that single hole upper bout ovation. I bet it's a better version of what Tacoma makes.

Tacoma owes Ovation MORE than a "nod" . . .

. . . they owe 'em a hand-job! . . .

I agree - it should be complimentary colored wood used, something that goes with the body, not fights against it. Although no epaulette at all (like the elite-t's) might be striking as well with the Koa body.
I guess the thing with me about the single hole is, well, it just doesn't look Ovation. If it was something new, that might be different. But it's not, it's on fenders, tacomas, mcphersons... It makes O look like the stereotype, not the innovator.

RE: "Tacoma owes Ovation MORE than a "nod..."

Then I'm glad I live 20 miles North of Tacoma!

The hole is not totally unique but stands it's own for placement. I am a Proponent for change from the epaulet shape. Put the hole (or Palm Tree)anywhere but in the middle!

BTW - have you been swamped with orders since I gave it the thumbs up? If so, I want my cut.

CMS!
The initial launcher of the "Love one women, many guitars" T-shirt?

Absolutely!

Trying to elicit some Kaman/OFC support with the Ovation sponsor there as well. Will probably get a room nearby rather than commute. Tell me if you need a home base to stay at for a couple of days - we nearly have a guest bedroom set up!

Thanks, but we already have a room reserved - it's my birthday that weekend and my wife and I like to make it kind of a vacation thing.
I was glad to see Ovation was going to be there as well this year. Do we need to know a secret handshake or anything to identify ourselves as OFC?

If I am not staffing an OFC table - showing off our cool guitars and talking about the benefits of Ovations and the OFC - I will send you my cell phone number.

Maybe Mr. Golf and I can buy you and your Wife Dinner. That way the Ovation Widows can talk while we go off.

In a word... no. In fact, since you approved it several people asked for their money back.

Some lessons in life are really hard-learned.

Its currently sitting in my multi-play thingy in the car with Al Di Meola, The Guitar Trio, Paco de Lucia and George Benson on a never ending 5 hour loop. Have you ever been in such exalted company anywhere else? And out of the 5 it's Mrs S.'s favourite.
