That's a real bummer!

I once had a very bad experience as a seller sending an item to an unconfrimed PayPal address so I don't really blame this seller that much. I agree that he is overly paranoid though.

BTW, Paul, it's pretty easy to get a confirmed PayPal address.

So Moody, You think he's going to re-list it? He gave you Positive feedback. Guess he was thanking you for that $70 dollars he made off of you.Looks like it would have been a nice guitar to have. The guy really should accept Pay-pal, Certified Checks or Money orders. That way, if someone sent him a money order, he could just ship to where ever. instead of worrying about a pay-pal confirmed address.

Well, he didn't "make" anything off me. He had to pay ebay $15 and that's all that he didn't refund. We should have split it, but I'm not going to quibble.

FYI, guys...
This one is ending again in a few hours. Still looks pretty reasonable.

I wonder what his problem is... if he gets his money why would he care if the address is confirmed or not?

A "Confirmed" address is very important. PayPal can actually take money back if there's a problem, even months later, if the address is not confirmed.

Really. Wasn't aware of that. What do you have to do to get 'confirmed'?

As I recall, confirmed, in PayPal speak, means that you have a bank account backing up your PayPal account and that you have 'authorized' Paypal to make ACH fund transfers from that account. You don't necessarily have to use that bank account in any transactions but you must have it in there as a 'backer'.

Secure the funds via an electronic transfer with your checking or savings. It may also be with a second Credit Card.

It is a sign of commitment and liability.

Oh, that confirmed. I knew about that, but Ebay ain't gettin my bank account#. Maybe I'll setup a dummy account.

I thought from the term 'confirmed address' it had something to do with the shipping address.

Never mind. :)

EDIT:
Now I knoew why I was confused. The term Paypal uses is 'verified', not confirmed.

Did a little more looking and now I'm confused. A confirmed address in PayPal speak is supposedly an address that is corraborated (sp?) by your supporting credit card information.

A verified account is what I referred to earlier and has financial backup in place. So what did this guy need?

I'm thinking maybe a hug.

FYI:
Confirmed and Verified are two different things with PayPal. You become Verified when PayPal verifies your bank account information and you have a credit card also as a back-up.

Confirmed means that your shipping address matches the billing address of your credit card, or you provide PayPal with sufficient proof that the shipping address is actually yours. It's a bit more difficult to confirm an address that does not match your credit card billing address, but it can be done.

A confirmed shipping address is for the benefit of the seller. To get the maximum protection as a seller first you have to agree to have a Premier account. PayPal claims that you get a bunch of benefits, but the reality is that when you are a Premier member PayPal deducts 2.9% fee on all sales conducted with PayPal payment.
For that fee, if you ship to a Confirmed address, you are for the most part safe and protected. If you have just an ordinary PayPal account, you can have a payment reversed (it happened to me) even after you ship the item to the Confirmed address.

On this particular listing, the seller has a very high shipping cost. I think he's doing that to save a buck or two off of the eBay commission.

Well, that's what thinking does for you. Most times these days you can't even use a credit card on the internet unless you can confirm the billing address of the card. That's probably what he means. I would think Paypal does that the first time you use them, since they are the ones who collect the money from you.

...or maybe Cliff's on the right track...

References to vile heinous acts of personal violation are innapropriate for this site.

I live in the metro NYC area and I have a vivid recollection of the case of NYC PO Justin Volpe. He'll be spending a major part of his life behind bars for what he was convicted of.

I enjoy this site and I'd like to see more intellegent posts than that one. If you really smile when you do that Cliff, then you're a sadist, or perhaps just a sadistic wannabe.

The confirmed address prevents guys like me having the guitar sent to the office or to a neighbor so my wife doesn't find out and refuse to accept the guitar when it gets shipped to the house. The guys that rule the roost can have them shipped directly to the confirmed address of the roost. It's a Paypal plot organized by a wife.

Send PayPal an email that you want to have your office address confirmed and ask for instructions on how to do it. PayPal doesn't make this information readily accessible on the site. Give them a few days to respond. If the response is inadequate, email them again. Be persistant. It took me about six weeks to confirm my office address. I don't think that you can confirm shipments to your neighbor's address though.

I wasn't offended. I would just like to see less profanity here.

Well, I wish I could say the same, but I'm sorry, I can't.
Call me OldFashioned, but I find being called a sadist in a public forum to be QUITE offensive . .

I may be wrong  I was wrong once in 69 I got into the drug scene not a good place to be. But as for Cliff I dont think he is a sadist, or a sadistic wannabe. He is just one heck of a guitar player and nuts like the rest of us.

OK, thanks Paul for the explanation.

Cliff, I guess you're just nuts. Every great musician has a few loose screws in their head. Please forgive me for saying that you're sadistic. I just don't like the idea of someone smiling while they're doing an Abner Luima job, even as a joke.

It's odd though that you were offended at all. It seems that you can dish it out alright, like calling Nick Torres an effin' idiot in this same public forum, but you can't take it when an "offensive" comment is directed your way. :p

Mitchrx,
I was just being sarcastic about trying to sneak guitars to the office so my wife wouldn't find out. I have to admit I thought about it, though, but I knew she'd catch me. I do need to see if she would let loose of my purse strings a little more, though.
Her most accurate Father's Day card said, "To the man who wears the pants in the family,

from the woman who tells him which ones to wear."
