There are rumours of a Payola$ reunion, apparently Bob Rock and Paul Hyde were working in the studio as of 2003. But if the free release of their first effort Bomb is any indication you aren't any more likely to hear them then you were when they were "the next big thing" in the 80's.

Songs like
Eyes of a Stranger
China Boys
I Will
among others stand up well, if you can find them.

Recent faves:
[list]
[*] Lara & Reyes - acoustic guitar duo
[*] T Bone Burnett, The True False Identity - can't describe this one. try the samples.
[*] Otis Taylor, Definition of a Circle - "trance blues"

I've also heard the Luther Wright CD and really enjoyed it. And I've cut those tags off of my mattresses!

I'm in a bit of a blues run here too, Cliff. Indigenous, Jonny Lang (who does a pretty mean version of Good Mornin' Little Schoolgirl too) and Kenny Wayne Shepard are in my current rotation. A little Ray Charles breaks up the mix (and his stuff STILL rocks).

Lanaki, how about a regional act that we can't already get in the cut-out bin a Wal Mart?

Surely there's something that the locals guard jealously from the haolie tourists?

Speaking of The Haolies , their first album was way cool...especially their version of Sleepwalk, with their own lyrics! But I think they're originally from NY/Brooklynn.

A year after I bought it I'm still quite enamoured with "An Evening with Jordan Rudess and John Petrucci". Just piano and guitar and not at all what you'd expect if you know their bands music.

Goldrush -- Live at Last. Goldrush was a short lived Australian band that featured Tommy Emmanuel and his brother Phil. They used to do some amazing things on stage together. Unfortunately I only have an old audio cassette version which is well past its use by date and I doubt the album is available anywhere today.

oh, come on now Cliff! Since 2MG won't play Xanadu, won't you at least play a cover of Muscrat Love for the next OFC CD? I'd be willing to add some banjo tracks on it for you..... whatchathink?

It's MusKrat, and the Captain & Tennille version STINKS, the original America version STINKS, and muskrats themSELVES STINK! (hence, the name).
I can't even BEGIN to imagine what it must smell like when two of 'em are "gettin' it on" . . .

Speaking of albums and stinking, I heard on the radio yesterday that the new Eagles album will be coming out soon.

They also said that for the first YEAR of it's release, it will ONLY be available at WalMarts.

Judging by WalMart's past business practices, I'm sure it was stipulated that they would only sell it if they had "exclusivity".

If this is true, I think it's really sad how a once-great rock&roll band has TOTALLY "SoldOut" . . .

Way t'GO, Henley!!!

(I hope the album "tanks" . . .)

CRUSTER! Thanks for recommending The Black Keys. I checked them out and I'll definitely be buying some of that.
