One for the BUY IT DAVE Camp. Keep the collection rotating (sell a few to pay for the new one) and keep the wife happy at the same time.

Just Do it!

Here's one way to gain some perspective on this situation...

What would you do if your wife came home with A Ferragamo bag and a pair of Pumps

Well, . . . if she came home wearing JUST the pumps and the bag, it'd be a curveball . . .

For a real balanced judgement I'd have to see pics of both the guitar and the wife.

I went with no but you may make your own choice. (duh!)

But consider....
....Can you afford to buy it with HALF of everything you own right now?

dave,
i think you should post this poll over on the "happy marriage" forum too and then compare the final results.
how many guitars can you fit in your station wagon and still have room for you to sleep?
with that said: get it!!

I have passed up many guitars/basses that I really would have liked to have had just because I could not afford them. I got over it. I have also sold some that I wish I hadn't. I find that harder to deal with. For the record, I am single. If it were me I would not buy it until I could afford it. That's just me.

He's doing pretty well with 12 Ovations, especially for a frugal guy. A wife would probably make him sell some.

I believe that Dave has not only made his decision and is acting on the movement of assets but he is also in close communication with his Bride.

Keep your eyes on Ebay and and the Police scanner in Pheonix.

Dave's wife is with him on this trip. My guess is that he's already commited to buying the guitar....

So our mission...

...is to take the bait and figure out just what the instrument is. W2 was talking Nationals and I'm sure he hangs around a lot of premier instrument holders.

Then there is the "Q" factor?

Dave,
Ask Cliff if he remembers what happened to his favorite guitar when his wife thought (knew) he loved it more than her..... :p :D :p :D

Also, I wouldn't necessarily take advice from a bunch of middle-aged men you met on the internet. We are often delusional about the state of our own relationships and grossly un-qualified to give advice about anyone else's.

My wife says I'm quite qualified to give free advice.

Seeing Dave's website of his collection, I would have to guess this guitar's price is in the 5 figures, or he wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

It must be a beauty, buy it and sell off some of your Martins.

If he buys it and SWMBO dumps him he's going to lose half of his collection anyway......

What kind of idiot asks the kind of idiots who hang around here for advice?

I didn't vote - one way or the other I'd be voting to make someone unhappy.

Schroeder, why do you think someone would be unhappy if Dave bought a guitar and his wife dumped him?
