Joined: March 2007 Posts: 302 Location: Buffalo,NY | I've been partial to the PRS HollowBody II the last 6 months or so. It sounds fantastic, can cover just about anything on lead or rhythm and is very light(~5 lbs.)and it also has a piezo pickup .Its only downsides that I have found is sustain( but I can easily add that with pedals) and lack of trem /vibr arm(which I seldom use). I also bring & play a PRS 12 String for our Byrds and Beatles songs.The 3rd guitar I bring is my '63 Strat set up in open "G" tuning with the high "E" string removed. This lets me play "19th Nervous Breakdown", "Brown Sugar" and "Start Me Up " by the Stones. I also bring either my '89 Strat Plus Deluxe or a Carvin and keep them in the case as a back up for me and the other guitar players. As soon as we finish our next gig on May 4th we are going to start to incorporate having at least one guitarist(we have 3) playing an acoustic on as many songs as possible. I've been playing in a guitar/harmonica duo - ala Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee - for several months now, and we're enjoying some success on a local level. I've been gigging with the Legend, and Matrix mostly, and to a lesser extent I'll use the Celebrity. I've recently attached the elcheapo Seymour Duncan Maverick pickup to the Legend and Matrix, with semi-livable results. For electric gigs, I'm still a boring old Fender Telecaster through a Deluxe Reverb kinda guy. | ||

Here's my 73 Pro Reverb that I dearly love: It's BF'd, re-capped, and fitted with two 12" Celestion G12H-80's, weigh's a ton, and sounds AMAZING! It's my favorite sounding amp that I've ever used. | ||

I'm with you on the Pro Reverb. I've got a '65 and it just smokes.I have it going in to a cab with 2 Jensen P12N reissues. These speakers are great. One of our guitar players uses it for practice. I haven't been been in a praise team since my departure from my old church, and have also traded in the balladeer for a CL. These days, the only gigging I do are sing-a-long sessions with the children in the classroom. I use my beater Martin (DX-1) for that purpose. Despite its share of scratches, falls, occasional kicks, and hits with a blunt object from the children, I'm surprised that it holds its own very well. | ||

Joined: March 2002 Posts: 14842 Location: NJ | When I started gigging with the 4-pc. band, it was JUST the CBalladeer. One guitar, nice & simple. Then when Rick & I split the band t'do duo gigs, I bought a Legend-12 from Al to "fill-out" the sound on some songs. Stayed that way for quite a while. Then the Adamas LongNeck came into my life. This thing just BEGS t'be played plugged in! Whenever "space" allowed, I'd bring it along t'play on songs that I could readily "transpose" in my head (which weren't many) or keep it capo'ed as a "back-up" if I popped a string on the CBalladeer. I've been gettin' into playing nylon string lately, so I've been bringing along this 1613 Classical that I have on loan from Beal. The thing just has an AWESOME plugged-in sound to it. The Balladeer and the Legend-12 go through an A/B switch to my pedal board. When I want to switch to the LongNeck, I'll "mute" one of those two with the tuner and swap plugs. The Classical's only got the single volume knob. Since I just recently got a 16-channel stereo P.A., I keep one channel specifically eq'd for the nylon. If "room" allows, I bring all four. A couple weeks ago, I did a solo gig and a guy sitting at the bar watched me load-in. When he saw me bring in four guitar cases in two trips, he asked "how many people are in the band??". When I said "One", he asked me "Why do you need so many guitars??". I told him that each guitar had a different busted string on it . . . I'm considering scaling 'em back to just three by leaving the Balladeer home, and capo-ing the LongNeck, but I like the brighter, "shimmery"-er sound of the Balladeer on some songs. Conversely, having the LongNeck THERE, forces me to "try" it more on songs. It usually hinges upon "logistics" of how much ROOM we have, and whether or not I feel like humping four empty guitar cases out to and back from my car . . . | ||

Congrats on that mixer Cliff,I suppose it`s that yamaha U were talking about :) ...as for guitar amps. , yes, buy FENDER ,great selection,good tone and affordable,sure RIVERA`s are cool,MESA`s and the like too,but they cost !!... and it does require having a strong back ,nowadays technology allows different set-ups,but a good guitar-amp. is allways a welcome asset.. Washburn "Washinton J-9 " humbucker x2 into: Fender G-DEC...mic. in front,off center ( AKG D-22 xlr )inserting a Morley wah at times ,still have to get a CryBaby ;) 1537 - 1618 - 1617 into ,either ROSS RB-60 with mic.AUDIX OM-2 off center ,or straight through : UB 2222FX into OPERA 415 x2 (active speakers ) BTW, Dr.TOM....U forgot to list the Mic.`s... :) Vic :cool: | ||

That place is a barn, and the PA is so-so. The sound is decent, but there is no bottom end to it at all. My band's rig is totally different. We have a 16 channel Peavey board, and run our mains off of a 2500 Watt Behringer amp. The mains are Yamahas with two 15's and a horn, and they sound fantastic. We also run separate monitors off of a 1000 Watt Nady amp. We run four monitors total: Two are (really nice) Yamahas with 12's and a horn, and two are (really cheapo) Nady's with one 15 and a horn. Add it all up and the sound is absolutely incredible. We can play any room we want, as loud as we want, and we still maintain quality sound. The downside of course is that this rig is a major PITA to haul around. The Yamaha mains are 4' tall and weigh 100 lbs each. The rack for the amps and effects unit weighs well over 100 lbs too. Add in our stage lights, and I can't begin to get it all into my Suburban in one trip. But once its all set up, its wonderful! | ||

Joined: June 2005 Posts: 1320 Location: Round Rock, TX | I play 'em all, depending. The 137, Les Paul, Model 4 and the Strat get used at church (the 335 not so much for some reason. No, it's not for sale - yet). I usually set up the Strat and one of the others. I run all of these guitar=>Sennheiser EM500 (wireless)=>Line 6 POD XT Live=>BBE DI-100X (thanks, Stephen)=>church's PA. My coffee-house group all goes through my Bose. Then I play the Martin CF-1, cabled, through the POD. One bandmate plays a 2005-ES (he gets my BBE for these gigs), the other one plays a Hospitals, nursing homes, hospice, etc. all get one of the O's - always unamped (so far). If someone else is playing with me, I'll generally take the 12-string. Otherwise, I'll grab whichever one of the others grabs me. The 2006 and 2007 have been getting some time out, but my increasingly beat up 1778 still gets the nod most of the time - mainly because it is getting beat up, but also it just sounds good. They main thing is I just wanna play and hopefully make people feel better when I do. I love all my guitars (for now anyway) and play all of 'em (even the 335). Now, I just need to figure out how to make scads of money doing it - or, alternatively, how to put my kids through college and indulge my various Acquisition Syndromes (of which I have many) without scads of money. | ||
