You guys are making me more nervous than I was. I've got the Larrivee on it's way to WA. (Andrew). I sure hope it survives the trip. It's packed in a box full of foam peanuts, so that should provide some insulation anyway.

BTW, if anyone wants to ship theirs here to FL. to hold until it warms up, I will gladly store them for you if you pay the shipping in and out. I'll take care of the handling (that is, fee) as I will have to inspect them when they arrive.... :D

Well, the weekend is nearly over, and U.P.S. will be bringing the guitar tomorrow. The temperature got up to 50 degrees yesterday, and again today. It did drop down in the twenties last night, though. It's supposed to stay warm overnight, and rain tomorrow. Calling for a high of 60 degrees. I have high hopes that the old Legend has survived the trip, and with the temperature staying pretty warm over night, I may get to open the case up later tomorrow. I will report back tomorrow night with the results, and may'be a pic or two.

Just a few more hours, and the suspense will be over. It's 60 degrees this morning, and raining, so it will probably be safe to open the case tonight. Could have been a lot worse, weather wise.

Well, the wait is finally over. It was 70 degrees here today, so I didn't have to wait to open the case. The end of the box actually wasn't even taped, and I was a little concerned about what I would find. The case isn't a Ovation case, but it was in decent shape. What really surprised me was when I opened the case, it looked like a brand new guitar inside. The top was perfectly flat, no cracks, cratches, nor even a finger print. Looks as if it has never been played. No fret wear at all. Just beautiful. I didn't really know what to expect, because i've never seen this model of Legend before. The black sunburst finish is really pretty nice, but I didn't realize that the neck and headstock was also black. I would prefer to see the grain like you can on my other Legend models, but it isn't bad. Another thing I wasn't expecting was the bowl is black, also. It has a single jack in the back with no stereo jack. All the electronics look brand new, also. Strings were very dead, so I put a set of lights that I had laying around, just to see how it would sound with them. I usually use medium gauge strings. I wasn't too surprised that it sounded really good, even with light strings. It sounds nearly as good as my acoustic Legend. I'm very pleased with it, and will try to get some pics up in a day or two.

All that worrying for nothing. I mean on our part. You had reason to worry. Glad it turned out well. I'm sure most times there are no problems, but it's those dropped or lost packages and big cracks that make the news. Look forward to the pics.

Excellent news Roundback! It sounds like it's in even better shape than the ad described. I kept watching it every time it was listed and waffled about trying for it. I'm glad that particular guitar stayed in the family and arrived safely. Again, congratulations, and can't wait for the pix!

Beautiful burst, looks more brownish/nutmeg than reddish. Reminds me of my 1619. Is that an ebony bridge?!? Great get!

It is a lot more brownish than my 1117, which has a reddish tint. I like it a lot. The picture I put up before made it look more red, but this one is a pretty accurate example. I'm thinking the bridge is walnut. The burst is black, as well as the neck, headstock, and bowl. It sounds really awesome, especially for a A/E Model.

What do you make of the label? Is the serial number actually the date it was built? That is what I was told. I'm assuming that the -5S stands for Black Sunburst? I've never seen or heard of these before, so I am just curious. It has a black, not shiny bowl, and the neck and headstock is solid black, also. This guitar isn't listed in the Walter Carter book that I have, so I wonder how many they might have produced.

Beal's prototype 1994C has a label like that, and I've seen 1 or 2 other protos for sale on eBay in the past with a label like that. So it's likely yours is also a prototype - maybe for the black neck finish? Maybe JB or KK might be able to shed more light.

Truly a unique Ovation. I'm jealous ;) .

Wonder if I contacted Ovation if they could shed some light on this guitar. Just curious as to how many they made, etc.

Do that - we're (at least Trader Jim and I) all curious as hell.

I sent off an e-mail to them, so we will see what happens. I explained what I had best I could, but they ask that you not send pics. I'm just real curious more than anything, so I hope they can tell us something.
