Where's Cliff when you need him???? #1 I said eloquent, not good, not witty. He put you in your place (in my opinion) without being offensive, which is an eloquent response to a perceived act of aggression. #2 if it was Cliff you were being hard on it would be up to Cliff to put you in your place. This newby is asking a lot of questions to a lot of knowledgeable people and getting a lot of good answers so he'll be armed and dangerous when that 500 is finally dusted off. I think he's got a perfectly legitimate right to do so and this is the ideal place to do it. Nothing wrong with trying to get the most bang for your 500 bucks and increasing your chances of getting it right first time. At least he hasn't asked what strings to use....

I have a definite bias for these older Custom Balladeers as I've been playing one since the mid-80s and it is still a killer guitar. In fact, it's my sentimental favorite after all this time. I know you prefer the Elite style, but you may want to give it a look. It has the added advantage of GC's 30-day return policy, so the risk is definitely lower than getting one elsewhere. ![]()

Are you call me a Cliff half-wit? Took you long enough. I'm not often so subtle. Don't feel bad, most of us aren't even halfwits compared to Cliff. I think I had one decent retort. Jeff was another one.

Joined: August 2012 Posts: 227 | Patch, I've been watching that one too. They've had it a while at $599 and dropped it 50 bucks in the last few weeks. I basically scan Guitar Center, Ebay, and now CraigsList every day. I check out the AGF classifieds too, but I never see anything affordable there. I joined some obscure forum since Google found a post of a guy selling two Ovations in a thread from last week. The admins haven't turned my account on , yet.

I've been to that Guitar Center in Brea many times. My impression is that it's a low volume store as GC's go and they have no Ovation knowledge. They might take a lot less than $549. The Anaheim T is a short trip down the 57 freeway. If Noah can help you out with either one, you'll be getting expert advice. -Steve W.

I know it needs a dozen of them, that I should put new ones on, and to ask BEFORE I pull the bridge off by using, " Heavy gauge strings, because my buddy at work said ' All them 12 string things are designed for thick strings so you can hear them over the Mashall Stacks.' " . I did get some good info, non the less. When I asked the same thing on the Walden web site, the guy who runs the company and designed them, Johnathan Lee, answered my e-mail.

Personally, JohnW, I don't care if you ask what socks and underwear to wear when playing a 12 string. I just thought it was funny that Muzza would make that statement when I KNEW you had already asked it. Talk about teeing it up for me. All along I was just trying to have a little fun with you, but you seem to be strung a little too tight, and the crowd here has changed so much over the last year or two that it's just not worth it. So go ahead and ask all your questions and I'll leave you alone. (At least Moody's still around to poke fun of...)

Joined: March 2005 Posts: 12759 Location: Boise, Idaho | I think John is playing along just fine. His next question should be what color shirt to wear when playing a 12 string. I hope that Bob responds with a link to a video, because I never saw the one with the infamous shirt. John, your buddy was partly right. The 12s are stronger because of the increased tension from 6 extra strings. Lots of people use lighter guage on 12s and if you need to play over the Marshall stacks, you would probably just turn the volume up.

Oouuuu....that video has long since been destroyed (not before most everyone else got a big laugh out of it tho) Still trying to decide if my video wearing the thong is too questionable.

You are hereby promoted up the ranks. Proud of you, dude. I also think John is doing fine. I don't think he's thin skinned or strung-too-tight. John is on a knowledge quest. Help him if you want. Leave him alone if he does not want to play childish games. Give him a chance to get to know the players and decide if he wants to include socializing in his time here. Comparing him to DAVEKELL... there is no basis to even make a comparison. When poked, Dave struck back. John has been reserved, probably sitting there wondering what's wrong with this guy.

Not to beleaguer this curious situation, but my very first response to JohnW was (supposed to be) a good natured "C'mon...quit talking about it and just do it"....the same as when my wife (of 31 years mind you) talks about getting new living room furniture for 5 months. Obviously he took it wrong, so my 2nd response was more serious, saying that I felt $800 was a great price for THAT guitar and that GOOD 12vers aren't gonna be cheap. HE'S the one that then responded "If my litany of questions bothers you, I will keep my questions in the PM section, from now on." Not exactly "reserved", but I let that slide off my back thinking he must have taken my 1st post badly...whatever. Like most threads, the initial question is answered within the 1st 5 or 6 replies, then it usually meanders off course. Now the thread isn't even TALKING about the 2058T. Sure, it got a little wacky there at times, but none of it was meant to be mean-spirited. The DaveKell thing was a joke directed at DaveKell (who incidentally GOT it, thank you) Bottom line, I think JohnW is getting the information he seeks with all the responses to all the threads he started. He's got 125 posts in a month, so he asking lots of questions and getting lots of answers. He COULD be having a little fun with some new guys on a new forum at the same time. But to be safe, I'll make a mental note not to try to have any fun at John's expense. That should work for all involved. Which reminds me.... I now want everyone to officially discontinue poking ME at every opportunity. I'm very sensitive.
