It's his guitar. It's a one of a kind (whole story on the inlaid (sorta) rosette). He's working on it. Let's give him some room and see what happens.....

He openly states it was bought from Dave so it doesn't seem all that mysterious to me. Dave even wondered in his first post if he had sold it to a member.

If Dave really wants it back I am sure he will get something worked out.

Dave sold me the guitar about 2 years ago... I have a case with it.. I even still have the old emails where I checked with Dave if he had gotten my US Postal Money Orders... he actually posted UP HERE that he was selling it! So if this is the same one... there should be record on these boards still... maybe in the archives... that he had it up for sale back then and I answered him directly to purchase it. Wow! I never knew this went on in May 2008... of course... in Jan 2008 I went into a Diabetic Coma and nearly died... and in May 2008 I was well into another residence for a bit of time and I wasn't even accessing the boards I believe? So.. that would make sense. But YES Dave... you DID sell this guitar... I believe I sent you two postal MO's over a period of time prior to 12/2008 and you sold me this guitar.. in a case... that's that! Let me know if you remember now... thanks everybody for any dectective work or memories of the sale! I don't want my auction to suffer for any sort of reason here.... All the best, God bless!

This is just another wonderful indicator of the class of family folk we have here!

Mike Joe, glad to hear you're doing better!

Hopefully, the mystery is solved...

Ok, ok, the world isn't spinning off it's axis. Mystery solved and good to know the guitar has been in good hands. Dispite major brain fart and severe pre-alzheimers symptoms connect the dots I did infact sell this guitar to MJK.

I honestly had no freaking recollection of it at all. Many guitars were all packed away in cases, house tipped upside down in rennovations, numerous workers in the house and a month later looking for the GC12 and it was gone. But case and hang tags still in my hand. I asked around here and nobody had knowledge of it being borrowed or sold. I didnt; want to believe that a worker had stolen it, but that was the only conclusion I could draw. So filed a police report, but they turned up nothing.

Turns out the whole transaction was well documented in PMs, but those were all in the old Tupperware account that I never accessed anymore. If I had happened to look in there it would have been obvious. As far as the case I think the house was such a mess that I just shipped MJK the guitar in whatever case I had handy, so that's why the one wiht the GC12 label on it is still in my house.

WHY would I sell such a guitar is still a mystery. One of the rarest of them all. About 100 made, and just a subset of those with the small soundhole. What the heck was I thinking. Timewise this is about when I pickup a 9k Collings, so I may have been a little short on guitar funds is all I can think. The other things was that the U681-12 was (and still is) consuming all of my 12-string play time. Three other 12-strings were sold after this GC12 left.

Well anyway, there you have it. The mystery is solved. I guess I better apologize to the police for the filing a false report. I'll also apologize to the contractor company - I know the police grilled them pretty hard, hopefully nobody got deported. Should I bid on the ebay auction? Wow, I'm really tempted. But at the same time I've sorta made peace with not having the GC12 around. I feel like Chuck Noland returning to his "home".

Dave,

That's known as a 'senior moment'! Don't ask how I know...

Glad to hear the mystery's solved.

I'm very happy to unkmowingly solve the mystery for Dave though.. I actually wrote Dave a couple weeks ago as well saying to Dave that I was preparing to sell this and my Adamas Steve Lukather... now gone... asking if he could remind me of the facts of the GC and he asked me to remind him which GC it was that he had sold me!!!! hahahahaha! Well I guess I, in a rounabout way, DEFINITELY reminded Dave which one it was now! hahahahaha! Maybe we should make arrangements to get the paperwork and case though? I put the picture up of the case I did get with this guitar though.. and it has that sticker on it... GC12? But what paperwork is missing then, that maybe I should have for the next owner? Hmmmmmm.... Let me know your thoughts!

Awesome that minds are at rest though.. that's always good news no matter what.

All the best my friends.... God bless!

Forgot you sold a guitar? I know what SWMBO would say about that… ;)

Does that mean you can also forget you weren't supposed to buy any more, too? ;)

Now I won't feel so bad when I buy a book I have already read or a CD that I already own…

Not too long ago, I bought a book and discovered it was already on the shelf at home, when I realized it, I offered it to a friend. He gave me an odd look and said "you're kidding, right?" Turns out that last year, I had done the same thing and already given him the second copy back then, and this was now the THIRD time I bought the same book, and the second time I offered a duplicate to the same friend…

(I've probably posted that story before, if so, please forgive me, I don't remember…) ;)

…senior moments are pretty awful, but we might as well laugh about them, not much else we can do…

Glad you solved the mystery of the missing GC…

I kind of did the same thing with a book. At first I thought it was the most bizarre case of deja vu I had ever experienced. I bought this book and read it - the whole time I was reading it, I kept thinking it sounded so familiar and I had read it before. It went through all of the books in the house to make sure and no luck.

I finally realized that I had listened to the book as an audiobook a couple of years before that.

I was seriously worried about my mental state...

I already made a post about this in MJK's thread but just have to add...this is one of the most convincing cases for GAS that I have ever heard!

For God's sake Dave, don't tell the Missus!

Mike,

As a family, we're all concerned 'bout that! As for myself, there's no turning < ummm, what's the word? >...

Glad this is at a good ending...only trouble is that if SWMBO reads this, she may get the idea that if she sells one of mine, surely I wouldn't miss it...(really dear, don't you remember selling that one?)...lol

Dave, you might want to install those security devices in the cases so they sound off when they leave the house... :p ;)

Dave has met SWMBO and my parents. He acted completely normal. When I tried to use him as an example of "you think I'm crazy, you should see Dave" they didn't believe me. Diabolical.

all I can tell you that if I ever sell mine (1968 Balladeer, shiny bowl, not the GC), it wouldn't be less than $1,000. This looks like a great guitar for a great price...

This is mine:
