I find it an unfortunate trend that Ovation seems intent on put Contour bodies on their Collectors series, at least judging from the last 4-5 year's worth. There are those of us out here who don't care for these bodies. I think the most beautiful guitar Ovation has made to date is the '04 Collectors. And there have been examples in offered for very good prices last year. But I see no reason to own one because of the contour. Yeah, my own little 'thing', I know. But here's my vote/plea to Ovation to put the 2010 model on a mid-depth body.

That would be a good reason to put it on the 05 Collector's, but not necessarily on every one since. Do they still come with certificates certifying that this particular combination of materials and design won't be used again? The 04 was a different animal. It wasn't meant to be innovative, it was meant to be a Commemorative, rather than a Collector. Those of us that are old school may agree it was the most beautiful, but other than the bearclaw spruce and the preamp, it was more like a reissue than a Collector.

The Custom Legend Reissue came out and we more of less call it the "04 Collector" but there is nothing innovative about it, it's as MIB said a commemorative reissue guitar, and a darn nice one at that. The 09 Collector is innovative in many ways, KOA, soundhole trim abalone/tortie, enhanced pre-amp. It's just damn freaking expensive. Wait until next year and you can probably get an FRG for $1000. Luckily they are only making 150 of them but I'm not sure there's 150 people that can tell it from the $500. celebrity model.

Not sure where I got the '04' from. Must be the alzheimers kicking in again. (img) http://api.ning.com/files/vWPbSx4iTujvx*lJNUryyIFhvy8IanKpw9rvtahhV... (/img) this one

Too many deals out there now to be buying new. What the crap am i saying i`ve got a brand new guitar coming in tomorrow....

Granted it's going to mean that it's less than likely that I will own a new Ovation, but it sure it nice to see a decent guitar at a decent price. And just so you know exactly where I'm coming from... take note of the specific words the Guitar stores you when they describe that room with the Martins and Taylors and such in it. "That's the room with the EXPENSIVE guitars". They don't say that's the room with the better sounding or better or anything like that. "The more expensive". That's likely the reason Ovations are out on the shelves in most stores that have those rooms and not IN those rooms. I'm glad to see Ovation starting to price their guitars to what they are worth. For anyone who has been to the factory and seen the process, care and effort put into the USA Made line, can you honestly say any of those guitars are really worth LESS than 3K ??? When I got my OFC guitar, as much as it was, I still feel it was a bargain.

The '08 would be something I'd put the money into if I had it in hand, but this one's not my cup of tea. I love the koa and the Celtic motif, but there's just too much solid black against that nice wood grain. Too dark and harsh for me.
