Thanx for the pics! It's great to see the familiar faces and new ones enjoying another 'family gathering'.

Matt's enthusiasm is truly contagious.

Looks and sounds like a great time was had by all. Mr. Big is indeed one helluva guitar player and singer, despite his protests to the contrary. Glad everyone had a good time - as if that was ever in any doubt!

Like many others, I was sorry I missed it. It almost made me wish I lived back East. Good to see you had a great event.
Alan, I'd like to extend thanks for your enthusiasm. Your attempt to start a get together may have prompted this. Al gets stressed out about organising these, but always comes through. Those of us that need someone to take charge really appreciate those that step up and lead.

I'm sorry I couldn't make it but I'm glad everyone had such a great time.
I had a very sick cat, 14 yrs old, who I had to put down on Saturday and I would have rather been anywhere else.

I'm sorry, Anita! Pets are real, genuine members of the family, and to lose one is so difficult!

I wish my weekend schedule could have permitted me to be there the whole time; still, what I did get to go to was a blessing indeed.
I learned much, played a few of the many options there were to choose from--and if you ever get a chance to play Jeff W's small Cargo (I think it was??) guitar, you're in for a treat.
So much talent in such unassuming, humble, caring people--for those of you who haven't been to a get-together yet, when you do get to go, you won't be disappointed.

High Points?
Any Low points?
Surprises?

I'm heading to work soon, but I'll have some thoughts on this in a bit.

Anyone else?

Surprises?

I was surprised at how nervous I was to play at the open mic. The surprise for me was that I have been a college teacher, done hundreds of corporate presentations, sometimes in front of thousands of attendees, been in command of my material and winged it, and I was DEFINITELY feeling the nervousness on Saturday!

I heard that several people had signed up, then backed away at the last minute. I understand that impulse now! As Matt said, ya just gotta do it!

High points? Seeing my kids get into it. They were bored to tears throughout Matt's presentation, and I was paying rapt attention, so there was a WHOLE lotta shushing going on in my little corner of the room. But, when they got into it, it was really nice for this daddy's heart!

Only low point is one that was my fault...I should have figured that the kids would be bored during Matt's time on stage, so the parts that I missed while trying to keep the kids occupied was my fault. Lesson learned!

Oh yes...other high points: Matt Smith (duh!), everyone's open mic playing -- lots and lots of good guitarists in this crowd! -- the cameraderie, the genuine affection of old friends that was in abundance.

Alan is a very talented player as evidenced by his OpenMic performance. He's got chops, two nice kids, one of whom took Weaser to the mat in a chess match- and he is a straight-up nice guy.

It was a pleasure, Alan.

Karen's open mic performances were very touching. That she sings and plays from her soul is so evident.

PEZ is going to be a character in my next novel.

"Tim and The Kid" were great. I've never seen Al play with such freedom.

Cliff tore up the joint with "Overkill" and then produced more destruction with Al.

Well, let's give credit where credit is due. Neither of Alan's kids (great kids, by the way) took me to the mat. They just stood by and enjoyed watching me cry while the real culprit took me down. Truth be told, it was Nicky, CrimsonLake's evil Flame T-toting protege who enjoyed every second of bringing me to my knees in a shameful public display. The kid's a shark I tell ya.

Whoops! Sorry Nick!

You ain't kidding! He resoundingly beats me in pretty much any type of video game, not to mention board games, and street hockey. He's coming into his own in ping pong as well.

This is what I get for not letting them win...
