Secondly the finger-poking exercise (marketing tool?) did make me think of the connective reasoning that ties the topics of marketeering and Politics. Get to know and understand the individual and separate them from the hyperboly (Google it). Sometimes you get what you pay for and sometimes you pay for what you ask for. And...you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find... you get what you need!

I think if they were about one third of the price they might make a nice guitar for someone, but I would never buy one because they sound soul-less to me. I honestly don't bash them for fun. I just think that if I were going to spend that kind of money on a guitar, a Taylor wouldn't even be in the running.

There was plenty of marketing hype, but I really wanted to be independent in many ways. The sound and playability were different. Then after coming out of guitar exile for 20 years, I saw all the marketing of Taylors. I couldn't find anything different about them. A friend said he tried a ton of guitars before deciding that a Taylor sounded best. By then I had 5 Ovations that had different qualities and I liked the sound of most of them better than his Taylor. I paid less for all 5 than he did for his Taylor. When I finally decided to spend some big bucks (for me) on my first new guitar in 30 years, there was no way I'd buy something as ordinary as a Taylor. The OFC fit the bill. I play Taylors almost every time I go into a guitar store, but I never feel like I have to have one. I am also staunchly loyal to anyone or any company that has been good to me. Ovation has, Taylor hasn't.

Was it because I was new and hadn't developed a musical ear yet? (Not that I have one now) I don't think so. I played that guitar everytime I went into G.C after I played others and it allway spoke to me. My tastes have changed and while I still like a "Bright" tone which I believe most Taylors have, I now enjoy the "Full" tone of my Ovations. BUT, I'll never knock a Taylor just because.

I also didn't like the salesman who trashed Ovations and wanted me to buy a Taylor. Before I bought the guitar, my teacher said to me "For $800 you would get a low end Martin or Taylor. IMHO,Martins and Taylors don't get really good until you spend over $1,000 for them. For $800, Ovation offers a bigger bang for the buck." For me, the Taylor bashing is less bashing the guitars and more of a snide comment on "wood box only" forums that absolutely adore not only Taylors, but CA and Rainsong guitars, but trash Ovations. BTW, I don't think that there is anything wrong with the Taylor, CA or Rainsong guitars. Michelle

The only way I can describe it is to say that it has a great voice.

There is also another guy who plays the same Martin and we always will joke about the Taylor. It's all good to me, I just like my Martin, my Ovation, Larivee, Takamine, and maybe someday a Taylor.
