Being one to make my own decisions about such things, I've always ignored this but did not go out of my way to bring up the subject. When I came across this forum I knew it was the place for me. (I won't bring up the Taylor bashing)

A Monday at 1pm, certainly implies after lunch boredom at work... I do remember we almost immediately got into a Firesign Theatre quotefest. Ironically it was this thread that I first posted in.

Here is my post from then: I was frustrated with my playing, acoustic, electric, bass. So, after playing out one night, the next day loaded up some "Stuff" and went in search of one guitar. Traded for a Legend. I knew Ovations existed, but really did not know anything about them. The guy I traded with said it was one of the best sounding guitars he had. He has over 900 guitars in his shop. So I traded. Worried all the way home that I had messed up, but now love my "O". In trying to find out about my Legend, I stumbled on the OFC. The rest is history. I now have 4 O's. So much for "one guitar"

I owned a Matrix since 1977 and an Applause 12, but was intrigued by other models I saw when I was looking for an amp for my daughter. I had also started playing with ebay for the first time and wound up with a Celebrity Deluxe I didn't really know anything about. I had seen the 99 Collector's on ebay, but it was an example of how not to list a guitar, so I googled Ovation. The OFC comes up before Ovation Guitars, so that's how I found this place. A former member had Custom Balladeer for sale, so I bought that and some guy who went by CWKII said I would probably appreciate the Classic I asked about, so I bought that etc. etc.

Jerry Garcia was right, "What a long, strange trip it's been...." I have enjoyed the repartee immensely, and tried to contribute when I could. Promulgated some myths, contributed to the lexicon, and formed splinter groups. Attended 2 gatherings, thus far, and probably resurrected close to 25 Ovation "critters", sending them, literally, around the globe. I count many of you among my friends, colleagues, and mentors, and am truly grateful for the opportunities. Now, as for that "Dictionary Breath" remark......

Way back in 1970 when buying my first acoustic it came down to a choice between a Fender or an Ovation. Imagine all the fun and friends I would have missed out on if I had went with the Fender.

Joined: March 2002 Posts: 15682 Location: SoCal | You know, I joined on March 8, 2008. I've already posted how I found this place, but what strikes me is how much time has gone by. That was 6 years ago! And even tho' I've become good friends with so many people here, in some corner of my mind, I still consider people who joined in 2003 and later as "newbies"..... Which is very silly......

Joined: September 2006 Posts: 10777 Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | I bought a Korean Balladeer 4861 on eBarf... THEN I decided that I oughta research it. Shows how much forethought I've had in my impulse buys! [I then discovered "buyer's remorse" when I saw the same model sell for less.... Now that I sold it I discovered "Seller's Remorse"! Cuz I miss that one.] I don't know... I just "keep coming back"... It must be working for me. :D

Joined: August 2003 Posts: 4619 Location: SoCal | August 2003, lurked for about 6-8 months. Had seen the link on Ovationguitars.com. In 1990, had sold all of my guitars except for the Martin - sales included a 1158 Custom Legend 12-str. Lurked because I wanted to avoid a site that had mainly guys that had been protesting others like my self that signed up for the Marine Corps in 1968. Sure, there are some here with a regretable past :p but most of the members seemed to be right out of the cast of Animal House. :p A diverse group brought together by guitars, a few I have met, many that I consider friends even if we have never met.

![]() Joined: August 2005 Posts: 3736 Location: Sunshine State, Australia | I first came here looking for shipping advice to get my 1768 sent here.... and still haven't found a cost effective way of shipping O's downunder. If I could, the next task would be finding an effective way of keeping them hidden from SWMBF. I came back a short while later asking for opinions about the '05ES. A member called StandingOvation was very helpful, friendly and full of good advice. Pity he's not around anymore. If Tupperware was around then, he may very well have scared me off.

Joined: October 2002 Posts: 181 Location: Queens, NY | I think one day in 2002 I just did an internet search for "Ovation fan club", and "poof" there it was. I always liked Ovations. I wish I could say it was because of the way they sound, but my ears just aren't that fussy. I just like them! But I got tired of music store salesmen telling me they suck. I was beginning to think there was something wrong with me! Thank goodness for OFC! I found out that I wasn't just a lone oddball, and that there were many other oddballs just like me. Phew! What a relief! I greatly enjoyed going on the very first factory tour in 2003, meeting CWK2 (a.k.a. Mauvais Beal) and all the other members, not to mention winning the very first raffle (FD14 lucky #13). I also learned a wealth of information about Ovations (and Hamers) that I wouldn't have learned anywhere else. It was one of the best internet searches I ever did! Thanks, Al and Miles!

Joined: July 2004 Posts: 812 Location: Hicksville, NY | I think it was sometime back in '04 ... I had just acquired my very first Ovation at that time, and decided to check out the Ovation website to find more info. about my guitar. In the Ovation website was a link to the OFC and decided to check it out too. After lurking for a while, I eventually joined. It was a pleasant surprise ... I was greeted and accepted, almost immediately! I will never forget Brad (Slipkid) and Fred (mtnbikerfred) for they were the first two members who welcomed me here. I've been hanging around ever since. I'm even more thankful for having/had the opportunity to meet and play along with fellow members during the '06 and '07 OFC conferences that I attended. Some even made it beyond the tour by getting together with fellow members in my local area from time to time. Definitely one of the best boards that I had ever joined! :)

I had bought a Celeb. thinking "wow, I finally have an Ovation", so I did a search, found this place, found out about the difference of a US made O, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Joined: March 2005 Posts: 5567 Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | March 2005 for me as well Mark! Not sure how I found it: possibly a link from an eBay auction or a search...Ovations have been my main guitars for over 33 years...The 12 strings are the greatest 12's ever made... I have met some fantastic folks here...many are now friends who call or email just to lift me up or chew the fat...the gatherings have been a blast. Finally got to meet Beal and tell him how much the company and product have meant to me and still do...That was Cool! Now just a few years later and I have added many fine Ovations to the arsenal, my first Adamas guitars, great memories, some Hawaiian shirts, and a t-shirt with a guy's face on it... And the train has left the station and its "onward through the Fog"!
