Between what TJ and Al both said (and I trust their judgement), it DOES sound to me like they had major quality control problems. People are unlikely to spend that kind of money on something that has sloppy construction issues, when there are other guitars in that price range that are flawless, or nearly so. If every person who bought a CA and had to send it back tells their other musician friends, I think it is likely that they changed the minds of any who were considering a CA. Lose enough sales and you can't make a profit. Can't make a profit, go out of business. It's as simple as that.

WE DON'T KNOW and that's what Temp was pointing out in his usual blunt way. Speculating based on a little information is usually pointless. Let's not get in a pissing war people........

That continues to make no sense to me. Maybe it's just a personal thing but I prefer to base my opinions on evidence that is little more objective, substantial and quantifiable. Now, in my post I made an observation, not a personal attack, yet you chose to take it personaly. If you are going to pontificate about something that by your own admission you are completely clueless you need a bigger set of balls when someone calls you out on it.

However, I DID preface my remark with "Seems to me", which should indicate that I was speculating, and I notice you didn't have anything to say about Twistedlim's post, where HE was speculating on a possible reason. I would also like to ask you how you can claim that "Rainsongs suck", unless of course you have played so many of THEM that you have gained an authoritative voice on THAT subject. As for "pontificating", no, I stated an OPINION, based on what I have heard from people I have gotten to know pretty well, NOT just on this message board, but through phone calls, e-mails, and many purchases of fine guitars. And if you don't want people taking your "observations" as personal attacks, then simply stop bringing speculations about their personal lives into the conversation, or someone might accuse you of being completely clueless, and needing a bigger set of balls.

It could have absolutely nothing to do with how "good" or well made the product is. Generally speaking, it's very tough for carbon fibre to make inroads into a very traditional almost snobbish spruce/rosewood world. I doubt Ovation would survive if all they had to sell was Adamas.

One less competitor for Ovation and Adamas to have to worry about. Sure it sucks if people got sacked in the process, but hopefully they are fine luthiers and can land on their feet elsewhere.

No matter how good you are at your craft, when you are the only game in town, there is not as much motivation or inspiration for improvement as there is when there is competition or at least copytition.Does anybody really CARE why they folded? The product looked very good and his booth, presentation and marketing materials were all excellent (expensive). In the NAMM environment its next to impossible to accurately assess an acoustic instrument. They looked unique and necks felt good. Don't remember the exact figures but I had the impression that they were on the high side compared to a comparably appointed all-wood guitar. With any product it all boils down to sales. I never saw them in any SoCal stores. The most successful companies I've done business with have not always had the best product in the market but they do have a bulldog of a National Sales Manager who drives sales.
