uh, oh . . Witko's brought out the BigGuns with "Il Duce" Durasa . . .

Started on mine this morning as well.
Made a good, constructive start. ShouldBeFun.
The last thing that I tried to sit down & "record" was my "Wind" tune, and the result of that proved a sonic abortion . . .
Since then, I've acquired some mixing tips from AmeliaTempleman, and a pair of KRK reference monitors from LostArt Vintage.

OH, Yeah . . .
Night&F@ckin'Day.

This'll be MUCH better . . .

btw;
Messrs. Smith & Whitehead:

Please don't think that we've "abandoned" that little tune we composed on the back porch of FlaHouse on Sunday . . .

I just need t'add that last verse & then I'll send a rough demo to you both for your approval . .

(Unless either/both of you guys can get to my place before the Deadline, & we can submit it . . . it WAS an "IslandTune" . . . )

But then again, it's not quite how it sounds.
It's the local back line company. The sound guy has a board and records stuff after hours. I sit in the warehouse with a mic and he'll be in the other room and it will take me about 4 or 5 tries to get it right enough. This will be just me and the guitar done in one shot. I can't sing for shit so it may all be flushed anyway, but it's worth a try.

I loaned him some guitars for a show and this is payback.

Ditto. At least you write good words. I suck at that more than I do at singing.

I was trying to put something down this weekend, but I seem to be stuck in a rut.

I'll finger something out.

Yeah, I paid a real musician to record my rough tracks (5 vocals, 3 rythm) and turn it into something with reduced suckage. I will try to ensure there are some Ovations in the mix, but he's not a fan.

What can I say?, I'm surrounded by Philistines.

I've heard ya so ya can't fool me.
You may not have the silver smooth style like Cliff but you have that "Voice Of The People" thing going for you.

OK, mine is getting closer. I got both guitar parts finished and recorded today. Sound seems OK, but in a quiet part of the song and again at the end I can hear a dog barking. Too bad it's not a Beowulf-like wail. I think I'm going to have to re-record tomorrow but maybe I'll leave it as is. Plus, my amp started humming like crazy ... I think I've got a weary tube. :( All in all, it's going to be a real garage-band feel. How's everybody else's tune coming along?

I've scrapped the song I was working on. I tried leaving it sit for a while and coming back to it but no. It's way to wimpy and introspective.
For instance....

Sittin' on the dock late in the day
The boats slip quietly by
On their way back from the bay
The sun's about to set the sky ablaze
And the clouds bloom like flowers in the sky

See what I mean? It's just not the type of song I'd choose to sing.

So, I guess I'll just make the best recording I can of my Amelia "Wind" song and send it in.

Try reversing the order of the lines. I like the way that works better and you might be able to tell a good story if you always wind up sitting on the dock at the end of the day. Just my two cents.

Good idea, Bob. I just altered it a little...

The sun's about to set the heavens ablaze
And the clouds bloom like flowers in the sky
Sittin' on the dock late in the day
The boats slip quietly by
On their way back from the bay

...not too bad at all, Bradley!

Gotta get away from "sittin' on the dock" and find another body of water. Too close Otis Redding. ;) I like the other lines, though.

Some good suggestions... thanks.
However "Fernandina" is kinda a mouthful to us non-natives, but Amelia Beach might work.

Just for converstion sake....
The structure of the song was going to have the first line of the verse describe the time of day. Morning, afternoon, evening, and dead of night. Maybe that's just a little too organized?

Best Of My Love
Every night, I'm lying in bed.....
But every morning I wake up and worry....

Midnight Special
Well you wake up in the mornin' ....

Setting the time and place is a well established key to getting on with the story. If it gets the audience to the scene, good. Then you can get on with the story.

You want to tell a story/song everyone will remember? Tell one only you could know. Then rewrite it and take the 'you' (personal) out of the 'I'. (storyteller) Or tell the story in the third person...
(Everyone considered him the coward of the county.
Hed never stood one single time to prove the county wrong.)

Story needs development; it either starts with the general and moves to the specific (Everyone feels this....I only feel this for you) or starts with the specific and moves to the general (I feel so lonely, but everyone gets lonely) and uses that sense of motion to suggest change, growth, revelation.

I had a frekin HD crash with all my tunes on it. Got the majority on HD backup so all is not lost.

However, last backup was on 6/1/08 so the last 6 or 7 takes/fixes have been lost.

I'm in the same boat with Al. Hope I can get it redone in time but I got so much other shit happenin right now time is a real constraint.

Sorry to hear that, Stephen. It sucks to lose good takes.
