How true!
As I'm trying memorize this I realize that it has about every 60's cliche you can think of.
Major to Minor Chord changes, an extra litte bridge like Pretty Women, a place for a scream, and a very Beatle like last chord. And I'm sure there are more.
Then, a few layers down, there's some thought provoking sexual innuendo.... Just what is that thing she does???

Brad, I've been doing that tune for a couple of years now, just solo guitar (key of A, capo'd at the 2nd fret -- E is just way too high!), and that video gave me a few things to think about and incorporate.

People like that tune. Everybody recognizes it and when you do it and watch the people listening, you can see them bobbing their heads and singling along. You and Brian could really do it justice....

I'm pretty sure there are more than three chords in that song Paul! What's up with that?

After you've been married 30+ years "that thing you do" usually refers to one of your bad habits.

I'm pretty sure a song played in A on a guitar capo'd at the second fret would be in the key of B...

Nailed?
Well... you know how you hit a nail a little sideways and it kinda bends over? Then you tap it back sideways to get it straight but it's now weaker and it just bends again?
Yeah... I nailed it.
.
I take a run at it about once a week. It's my first venture into altered tuning land. I'll get it ... sooner or later.

Yeah... I like that one to.
Wait till you hear it in Temp's DADGAD tuning or Cliff's weird "I don't know what the hell he's doing tuning.
Overkill in DADGAD sounds complicated and artsy-fartsy but it's so easy to play.
.
I don't want to start sounding like the new Andy Rooney but...
Have you ever noticed how difficult it can be to learn lyrics when all the rhymes end with... "shun"?

Well, see. Right there, 3 out of those 11 syllables are the same. Less to remember.

I've been working on "Hills of Morning" for years. Harder than I thought, but Cockburn's stuff usually is.
Right now I'm trying to come up with an acceptable solo guitar arrangement for "Fountain of Sorrow".

Speaking of Cockburn, I tried playing "Pacing The Cage", but even though I can play and sing it, I just can't make it interesting, so I gave it up.
Seems to me that "Fountain of Sorrow" is all about the lyrics. I don't think the melody is all that outstanding to make a great solo guitar piece, jmho.

There is a message for you to find.
So take this clue and engage your mind.
To play Overkill as clear as a bell
Seek enlightenment where the suspect dwells.

Sorry, didn't mean as a "solo guitar piece", but as a song accompanied on solo guitar. There's a lot of musical nuance in it that while easily expressed on a piano, is not so easy on a guitar. At least not for me. So the accompaniment comes across as boring and drags down the whole song.

That's something I hadn't tried. Thanks, Cliff!
