Just found this site while tring to determine
the age of my Ovation. Do all Ovations sound as
good as the 1537? I have one but I was thinking of selling it to get a different model.

Shawn,
I tried every Adamas, Elite and higher end Ovation I could get my hands on (only about 8, limited choice in orlando). I had settled on a W597 that I loved the feel and sound of. Everyone here sold me on the 1537, which I got from fellow OFCer Jeff W. It blows away the W597! Definitely keep it! The 1537 has quite a following here.

It's nice to know it's a quality instrument.
I bought it about 6 years ago for $300 and left it in the case for 3 years because I didn't know how to play. I've started learning a little and am now teaching kids at Church basic guitar. I'm amazed that this thing never ever goes out of tune compared to the other guitars in the class.

Thanks for the info. I think you are right about keeping it.

Shawn,
Please disregard my last post, the 1537 is a very bad guitar, probably worthless, but because everyone here looks out for each other, I'll give you what you paid for it. ;)

I had to go there before someone else did!

Honestly, keep it, play it, love it!

Whoa guys, it got pretty active in here.
I think I'd better listen to Designzilla and hold
onto it unless I find another model I like better.
$450, huh?

Nice custom. I'll remember it next time MY family comes to visit.

Well, pretty close. That's the Umatilla Chemical Depot. Not too mysterious - and not too top secret . Isn't it comforting what you can find on the internet?

Shawn,
I paid $900 for mine, and think it was a great deal!

And FYI Waskel, I did not try to cheat grandma out of her Taylor in her final hours!

Shawn - hang onto it. I'm not lucky enough to own one, but from what I've heard in here you probably won't find one you like better.

Well, duh... it was a Taylor... I'm sure it was only worth that $25, especially having to pry it from her nearly lifeless, yet determined hands...

Designzilla, I just noticed you have a Mandolin in your signature, I just bought one last week. Have you tried the Ovation Mandolin? there is
one in a store nearby which looks like my 1537. same natural finish an decorations.

Shawn,
Don't believe these guys. The 1537 owners are just conspiring to keep the price up. I'll buy yours so you can get something newer. Newer is better, right?

Shawn...I almost sold my 1537 a few months ago for $450. But then I found this site and started "lurking". Good thing too as I am sure I would have gotten my $450 pretty easily, then went out and bought the Adamas I was looking at for 3 times as much and been sick.

As it is now, I am sure a couple of these guys would trade an Adamas for a nice 1537.

P.S. Use mine for worship at my church too...

I wasn't looking to sell, but it's the only guitar
I've ever played and didn't realize the value both in quality and monetary. I only play in church too. Probably because parishiners are more forgiving than most of the public. But that may change as I continue to play. I've been enjoying reading a lot of the banter in this site. I haven't done anything like this in a few years since I stopped going to the Miatanet site.

There is a good topic. what's the smallest car you can stick the ovation hardshell case into. sl

Shawn,
"I only play in church"!

At the risk of starting a riot, don't sell your purpose short!

I had an Austin-Healey where the choice was whether to take a date or my guitar. The guitar never said no!
