Probably wouldn't get much argument if I were to say that the '87 collectors is a 1547 (cutaway of 1537) with more bling. They currently have different type strings right now, otherwise I would do a fresh comparison.

My 87 seems to have a little more bass, and it could be from the fewer treble side sound holes, or just from the top, or just from the amount of contact with the neck on the top on both guitars. But they are very similar and both very wonderful.

I have a few with the old (Adamas and 1537)as well as the Adamas I reissue - I agree; also, the pre-amp (stacked vol/tone) on the Lennon reissue is stronger than the original. Don't believe is that it is just because it is newer. Might not be a bad idea for some to install the new version.

Even though the Lennon and Adamas re-issues have newer electronics than the original models, they're still FET based and cannot sound as good as the OP-PRO or OP-50. To me replacing the two-knobber on a 1537/1547 with an OP-PRO makes more sense logically, but I could understand going for the newer version of the FET to keep the guitar as original in appearance as possible. I'll post the pics of my 1619 when I get it back.

He was interested when Stephen was selling it and was trying to buy the one that Stephen bought for $150. His wife is finishing her degree etc., etc., (but he just spent a bunch of money on an xbox). I'll try to get him to get in touch with you, Blues.

The Adamas has what I've heard reffered to as a deep 'V' profile, the 1537, a 'soft' V. Anyone else who cares to chime in here, please help this discussion. I don't know for sure, but wasn't the Adamas offered with different neck profiles? I think all the 1537 neck profiles are the same. The Adamas is a hand rubbed satin finish and the 1537 is a gloss varnish. Comes down to personal preference. I like the satin finish. I have long fingers and the fuller neck seems to provide more support and less cramping. All this is subjective and probably has as much to do with technique as anything. Both play wonderfully. My intent was to buy and play a Adamas flavor for awhile, then sell it and try another flavor. I had no intentions of letting the 1537 out of my grasp. But then I strayed and tasted the forbidden fruit.... For me the Adamas was a perfect fit from first strum and run up the neck.

They seem very light, but I don't know if they are lighter than the 12s that I use on my others. Plenty of volume from a light gauge string, but would probably be a little too light if I did much strumming.

Joined: December 2004 Posts: 1673 Location: SoCal | Mark, Your 1537 had 10s, the one I kept has 12s. I think my '87 ended up with a set of Adamas 1818s from Music123's 99 cent sale. Steve, Search the General Posts, you'll find quite a lot of opinions. Moody has done some string-searching on his 1537 and '87. Check out his reports.

Because of your lack of interest in this wonderful instrument, I have been forced to donate it to a worthy cause. So tomorrow I’m sending it off to ‘Unwanted Guitars of America’. This fine organization is dedicated to finding good homes for unappreciated guitars, especially Ovations. (Seems they get a lot of those) They research prospective recipients to make sure these guitars will be given a good home and will be loved as they are meant to be. As I understand it, association with llamas is a good thing. Go figure! Anyway that is the bad news. Now the Good News. I have just been notified by the UGA that I’m at the top of their list to receive the next guitar taken it! Can you believe it! Me, a person couldn’t win a nickel in a 10 cent game, has been chosen to receive one of the most sought after Ovation guitars made. I just don’t know what to say. So I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for my new guitar. It couldn’t have happened without you. You guys are great. It’s a beauty! Minimal fretware, no finish cracks, aged to a beautiful golden hue, and a wonderful sound that is to die for. Thanks again. Edit: Just found out that I get to pick it up in person, so I get to save on shipping to boot. Man it keeps on getting better. Boy, I hope I never wake up!
