Bobbo mentioned:

Without You - Harry Nilsson (Badfinger)

to me, that is one of the greatest covers of all time because IMHO the original sucked.

My first choice would be "Hurt" by Johnny Cash also....

Another of my favorites is U2's version on "Satellite Of Love" originally by the Velvet underground.

Ben Taylor(JT'sSon)'s version of the Beatles' "I Will" (which is often a staple in my FirstSet).

That one gives me chills. It also reminds me of the worst remake ever. Willie Nelson singing Dave Matthews' Gravedigger.

Worst cover ever...

Eric Clapton doing Layla by Eric Clapton!!!! (Derek and the Dominoes)

Let's be real. If anyone else would have turned that rock classic into elevator music they would have been lucky to only have been booed off the stage.

Reminds me of the time my teenage niece was in the backseat when McCartney and Wings came on the radio doing "Live And Let Die".

It got all the way to the chorus before she piped up and indignantly asked "Why is HE singing a Guns n Roses song?" :D

"Whiter Shade of Pale" - Willie Nelson

Learn something new everyday. The Springsteen version is so polished... I guess I would think someone covering it would at least try a little more.... oh well.

"I Will Survive" by Cake - originally by Gloria Gaynor

I was listening to this song on the radio last night while driving home from work. I realized that this song has been around for quite sometime now, and I actually loved it back in my college days.

It reminded me too of my college roommate back in the day when The Kinks' "You Really Got Me" was blasting in the bar where were having a drink at that time. As he was listening to it, he said, "isn't this originally by Van Halen?" :D

As I brought up Cash's Cover of "Hurt" - here is a great cover of a cover:

Sheryll Crow\'s Hurt: A Tribute To Johnny Cash

EDIT: ...although she mixed up the lyrics at the end of the song...

Best regards,
Kurt

One definition of a great song; It sounds good when Ringo sings it. He also covered the tune.
