You really do make me think "why do I bother", you're so damn precise and I feel like I've got 1" diameter fingers.

But hey, not everybody that plays piano is a Rachmaninoff....not every guitarist is a pro...the important thing is to have fun and express yourself!

I've been using the Alpha with no problems. another problem and less easy to counter is the hardware not being recognized nor the drivers found although they reside in the software folder. windows xp pro wants to install the "new usb device" every time i connect the unit and then tells me the device cannot be installed as the drivers are not available. directing to the drivers does not help. i've had to do numerous un and re installs until i found out i can just unplug the AC cord momentarily and then the unit is recognized again after plugging in. this sucks in the middle of recording! this remains an issue for many folks and the company has not addressed it either. lexicon updated the drivers last october which are downloadable from their site, however, they do not work any better. i was telling musicmike i wish i had done my homework on these units before purchasing it. i'm sure i'll get it all worked out eventually. otherwise, as many have said on the lexicon forum, at least i've got a nice looking, albeit expensive, paperweight.

ASIO4ALL not only fixed the recognition problem, but the latency is much lower now. The only downside to using ASIO drivers is that the built in sound card for the computer is not ASIO, and my recording software cannot run both simultaneously. Thus I am limited to using headphones when mixing or listening via the recording software. To listen via the computer speakers I have to mix it down to a wav or MP3 and then use another program to listen, like Windows Media Player. A minor inconvenience but worth it to get the faster performance with ASIO drivers.

Well, to say I was surprised about this is an understatement: it could easily have been me. I bought this from from a fellow on ebay who had gotten it as a gift and he did not need it. I got busy with finishing seminary and never used it. Then sold it to Randy with no idea that it wasn't a great unit. The board here had discussed it and it seemed to be a good unit so that's why I bought it. Had I known it never would have left Virginia. I really think that Lexicon should step up to the plate and recognize they have a serious issue here and replace all of the units or at least refurbish them.
