DVD - the label is dead center on the inside top of the guitar - not on the side - very different looking label - if I can, I will try and get a pic of it but it will be hard with my great photo skills. :)

Nice Pic Lesllie!

Actually not in the habit of naming my guitars: I'll have to see after I get it what I feel like but "007" is certainly an option.

This is not directed at Mike or Leslie...directed at the factory.

This smells...no other way to say it. Not the first time. 12/31/04, first pics of the the 30th Anniv Custom Legend is on a dealer's eBay auction and he had it in stock. 47RI pictures of #3 - guitar in his showroom and on eBay.

Al now finally able to give us basic specs with no pics and one is confirmed delivered, another in a couple of days.

Either a company releases a guitar to sell to all of the dealers or it doesn't. Playing of favoritism is wrong. My relationship with an Ovation and Adamas dealer is through Al. He has provided superior product and support. The company's actions are in direct conflict with their need to support the individual dealer. The company should try and reinforce the relationship between the dealer and customer.

And, please don't excuse the company by blaming it on one of their rep's (as in the case of the Custom Legend and the 47RI).

Again, it smells.

Tony, I definately agree with you here.

Apparently, Leslie and Mike found a great opportunity to quickly purchase what is certainly a first (Adamas Collector) and they obviouusly moved quickly. Certainly no blame there.

For Ovation not to have given, maybe not their largest vendor, but certainly their biggest supporter, at least an equal (should have been 1st) chance to promote this SUUUUUUCKS!

Sorry, am I being direct enough?!

Given the opportunity, most of us would have probably jumped on the chance to own the first of these available and I applaud Mike and Leslie for not hesitating to grab them.

The point though is relevant, that apparently these were shipping to high volume dealers before Al was even allowed to mention them to us.

That is wrong!

reps had their meeting in bloomfield this weekend and this is where they were told about the guitar.

that is why I did not have all the specs or pics. Probably won't be available to me until tomorrow.

To find out that these guitars are already in the hands of consumers is a little unnerving to me. But as it was expressed to me i am not a "million dollar account". but if you can tell me the dealer I can find out what rep he has and request i get changed. Hell if I had the guitars early I would sell them as quickly as possible. BUT I am a man of my word and if I am told NOT to give details until a specific date you can be damn well sure I would not. guess I am just stupid that way (looks like I don't have what it takes to be a millio dollar account. Hell I even tell people not to buy certain guitars. can you care too much? I guess so)

no matter. These are really cool guitars. I hope to grab a pile of them obviously the promise of early s/n numbers is probably out the window.

anyone wanna buy a mexi strat??????

Well, I am actually sorry that Mike and I put our guitars on line so everyone could actually see what the guitar looked like since this seems to have caused some problems with a few in terms of fair distribution.

I am not making excuses here but there are probably only so many that have been made to this point - possibly a very low number - if the dealers that recieved the first few shipments do the largest volume of sales in the country, shouldn't they get first crack at the few that have been produced?

Mike and I did not do this to hurt Al or anyone else - we just wanted all of you to see what will soon be available to you and more than likely be sitting in your home within the month.

For the first time in my life, I had first grabs at something speical. If I ever get another opportunity to be the first at something special, I think I will just keep it to myself until everyone has the information and starts posting their pictures.

Al, I hope you sell 20 of them.

Well, I really don't know where to start or what to say. I do know that until last Wednesday afternoon, I had never heard of this guitar...I dare say that not a single person here, given the means to acquire, one, would not have jumped on the chance and if I were to sell mine right this minute, it would be gone by tomorrow...
I've been in the music business for over 33 years...I had my own MI store and several other guitar oriented ventures from 1983 to 1993 besides still playing music professionally...I learned how the game was played...and that does not directly or indirectly have anything to do with this transaction. Leslie and I had an opportunity because of a large purchase we had made previously from one of the largest dealers in the country. I have dealt with many dealers over my 33+ year association with Kaman Music. Most were very good to deal with. To be honest, all of us here for the most part like to get a deal or to be able to buy something at the best price available...Leslie and I were not able to turn down this offer...it was the proverbial "offer you can't refuse". There was nothing wrong or "smelly" about this dealer and I resent the remark! Just as I would vehemently oppose anyone who would say the same things of Al! Kaman is a business: they have dealers and obviously they have differing ways of getting product out: I think Al hit it on the head when his rep said he was not a million seller: Folks, like it or not, that’s the name of the game: to sell product! If you're very good at it and do well, the companies reward you in some way! It's called Capitalism and many of us wore the uniform and fought for the right to do so freely! Guitars are not different than any other lines of material goods! I was waiting until I had a chance to get my guitar in hand and then Leslie and I were going to post together to show our latest guitars to a forum that we expected surely would be excited to see and hear about them. I did not know that Al was going to post this thread or to what extent he may or may not have ordered or even had in stock. I truly hope many here will order them from Al...Obviously he can get them and will get them. After hearing Leslie's 08 Collector over the phone last night, let me tell you if they sound that good over a phone speaker, just think how good they'll sound in person or through a PA! I have always played Ovation (and now more recently Adamas) because I love the product! And I really like the company too. Are they perfect? Of course not! Do they "stink"? Of course not! They are a successful business that has excellent customer service and support and is an American tradition! Part of our American Heritage! And they have become a worldwide heritage as well. While we do not fully know what will happen after Jan. 1st, I think it is safe to say that since many of the 100 2008 Collector Guitars have yet to be built, that is a good indicator! If we would all support the dealers (and certainly Al's "Lost Art Vintage" is one) we can assure Fender that they have indeed purchased wisely and should leave it the "...." alone to run itself or at least continue the tradition! I love the older guitars; but this is my 2nd new one! I am looking forward to getting it here and playing the tar out of it! Leslie is equally excited about having hers. Al will sell many, I have no doubt! Can't we be happy for that? Can't we support the company in this time of anxiety? Can't we think the best and do the best for others? That’s what makes this season and these holidays so special! My wish for the holidays is to flush all the negativity! Life is too short!

Leslie, I would have done the same given the opportunity and money to afford one. They should prove to be quiet rare and sought after.

My reaction is towards Al not having the same chance to present this opportunity at the same time. He provides us with this board and many other opportunities. Being self employed myself I have felt the unfairness in certain business sitations and was simply reflecting my support for the small business person.

As I said in my previous post, there is certainly no blame on you or Mike's part. I hope that y'all enjoy the beautiful new A collector. I can't wait to see and play Mike's in March.

I will quote myself: "This is not directed at Mike or Leslie...directed at the factory.
This smells..."

I reiterate...it is the factory that again screwed up...it smells. And, at the factory, it is the MANAGEMENT, not the wonderful guys and gals that help us everyday.

I don't care what volume some dealers have...let them make some pre-orders before other dealers. Save the 1st 10 for pre-orders to your favorites.

DON'T SHIP guitars until it has been announced to all dealers.

Again, to Mike and Leslie, no one is addressing your purchase. In fact, we appreciate seeing the pictures. We want to share in your joy. Thanks and congratulations.

Guess I should go check to see if there is one on eBay.

Ditto guys. I mentioned that given the opportunity, almost every one of us in the market would have jumped on the deal, posted photos, and danced in glee.

Don't think we are mad at you, just sometimes we wonder aloud about how things work in the real world versus the perfect world.

I am looking forward to the reviews that I know you will be sharing in the upcoming week.

Tony, maybe Fender will do thigs differently...I dunno...

Paul: I was being silly with my reply to your question...I was in a good mood before I found out that Dan Fogleberg died!
When "007" gets here, thats the first songs I'll play!

BTW, keep me in your thoughts folks: I go Wednesday morning to get the treatments for the neck: and Violetta has to have an MRI tomorrow for problems stemming from her wreck! Arn't we a pair!

Have a good week everyone!

It's business, and business is never fair. My company has 100 customers and 5 of them account for 90% of our revenue. So guess what? Those 5 companies always get first delivery. Always get the best price. And always have the inside track on new stuff before the rest of our customers every know about it. It sucks for the smaller guys and I feel bad for Al when he's not allowed to compete on a level playing field. But I'm not going to blame Kaman for doing the same thing that every other company probably has been doing for years. I'll be happy to wait in line and get my '08 Collector through Al. Although I've got to say I'm not crazy about the looks. I like black adamas guitars, and I like the sonics of a single epi cutaway. But that freaking snot blob is just too ugly for words. It'll probably be a short adoption. Dave

The snot blots don't bother me too much.

I never see them when I am playing

but not having them on the twin 2080Ds is kinda nice!
