Time of day has a lot to do with it.

When I was living in Japan my girlfriend and I loved putting stuff up on auction and really noticed a lot of great deals ended at times of day/night when it was difficult for regular day people to bid. Of course the highest prices are generally going to be generated when people with jobs can bid.

Aren't the sunbursts the most common, and the maple fretboards as well?

We can assume looks, but it's eBay. Could be ANY reason from looks to the person that bought the natural wasn't around or didn't do a search when the sunburst was available, or someone looking for a natural cause they already have a burst, or it's someone's favorite color, they like the state it's in, or buyer, or ad, or terms or condition or or or or or or....

Seriously, I'm not being sarcastic. The first rule of predicting why or how something sells or doesn't on ebay, is that there are NO rules.

Nice pickup Randy.
I saw it, thought about it as I don't have a sunburst but figured 5 of them was enough already.
Enjoy!!!

AJ, you've got quite a stable there. I went to your gallery to see the pix. Guess what... you don't have a gallery!

I bought the burst because of looks. I'd love to have a natural and nutmeg also, in that order, both with maple fb's.

Thankyou Captain, the gallery is coming.
I have some time off over Christmas and it's my intention to get it happening.
I have a natural V2 and a V3.
Some are still in the US with my mate in Colorado, get em in the New Year.
Cheers AJ

well...the mailman just delivered the sunburst. no case and extremely dirty. i'll clean 'er up, put on some new strings and get a gig bad ASAP. letcha know soon...

there is no fretboard wear and slight wear on the fretwires. neck is great, other than a pencil eraser size ding on the back at the third fret.

so if the serial number is E +5 digits (11733), that tells me the guitar was produced from Feb 1975 - 1980. correct? can the date be defined any better than that?

I just commented about the same thing with my new bass. Why do people treat their instruments that way? Anyway, Congratulations!

so why is it that nobody on this forum has ever mentioned how good an electric guitar the ovation viper is? :D

i've owned les pauls and a gibson 335, (not to mention a decca!) and this sunburst viper sounds better and is more comfortable than any electric i've ever played. it appears it has sat around for 30 years without being played much at all. it shows a few scratches and dings probably from being moved around and stuck in one closet after another. certainly it hasn't been played alot. it cleaned up very nicely and all the electronics work flawlessly. the neck is amazingly comfortable and quick. and the mailman delivered it on sunday! merry Christmas to me.

randy: "hey honey, wanna see what you bought me for Christmas?"

shirley: "sure babe, wanna see if the dog likes your playing?"

"so why is it that nobody on this forum has ever mentioned how good an electric guitar the ovation viper is?"

Oh yeah, I meant to mention that Vipers are very good electric guitars. Is my timing a little off? It feels a little off.

Kidding aside, I just ran across this thread or I would have chimed in sooner. My first electric was a SB Viper, but without the word on the pickguard. Loved it. Played it a lot, for years. Looks like you got a great deal. Nice flame on the back of the neck, yes? Hot pickups, too. Congratulations!
