Tough question ...

The fact is that all of my guitars could be replaced. Soooo, I think I would opt to save the Dog which would score HUGE bonus points with the wife and in return I'm sure she would let me replace all of them.

shiny 1115 with the FD14 line driver preamp... the neck's 40 years old, but the rest of the guitar is as-new, and the biggest rumbler I've ever played..

as much as I bitched about it, it's still the nicest and loudest 12 I've ever owned, including the Adamas 1885 I let go for a song.

I don't know Dave. You better make sure she's out first.

Out of my three, the Legend would be the one that I'd save.

BTW - for those that remember, the bridge is still holding on that Matrix. So far so good...

Yo Glenn... After reading this thread I got inspired to dig-out my 1115.
This is still the loudest thing I own.
My 2058T is a Nice guitar, and I really Love it....
Side-by-Side, the 1115 still blows it away.
( Not a shiny bowl, but new bowl/top, no pre-amp... And it is still Awesomely Loud)

This happened to me and I couldn't grab anything as I was at work. What wasn't burned was looted and I didn't have insurance because the apartment complex was in transition converting to a Co-Op. The only thing I had left was uniform on my back and my firearms everything else was gone. The fire was deemed arson. The super diappeared right after.

If this were to occur today I'd make sure my husband and my shepherds were out first than I'd grab as many instruments as I can. I'd grab my Ovations my Takamine Ltd. 2004 my Rick 360 Carl Wilson edition and the 56 Goldtop Reissue LP and my Alhambras. The other 34 guitars I'd make a grab for if I could. I live in my own house now so this would be fairly easy.

If I was thinking straight it would be the ute 12 cos there are only 5 of them in existence (or is it 6?).
Given I wouldn't be thinking straight it would be the ute.
But if he hadn't saved it first I would save my son's Paco de Lucia - nobody on this planet loves a single guitar more than he loves that one.

Dunno... I've already decided I'd rather sell my car than my W598-CB, if I had to choose.

It could only be Gertrude; my Jewel is wonderful to play, and I appreciate the others, but I have never played another Ovation with a neck like hers. (The only other one that comes close is one with a blondish-colored neck in the "Museum" at the Mothership.) Jewel I could replace, because her neck was special-ordered to match the ol' lady's; but Gertrude, never. She's in a category all her own.

My HD-28 is currently the most valuable guitar in my posession, but alas, it's not going to be my choice. Instead, I'm grabbing the CL 1719, which turns out to be my one and only Ovation.

Yes, the HD-28 might have cost a lot more than my CL, but I can always go to any authorized Martin dealer and purchase another one. The CL, however, especially the one I got is a bit more of a challenge to shop for these days...

I'm resurrecting this thread because it came pretty close to home the other night. Actually it was on the other side of town. They had a grass fire that quickly spread with 50 mph winds and totally destroyed 9 homes. One woman died. Her husband went outside to see where the smoke was coming from and couldn't even make it back into the house. He thought his wife got out, but she didn't.
Anyway, I was talking to one of the secretaries here who was evacuated. She lived about a block from the houses that burned down. She is a recent transplant from Louisiana and said she was used to having time to board up the windows and prepare for hurricanes. The other night she noticed some smoke and answered a knock at the door. A deputy sheriff told her to evacuate. She said sure and was going to blow him off. He said she had 2 minutes and he would wait until she was out. She grabbed some Cheetos and bottled water, the kids and the dog.
She said she felt stupid when she saw her neighbors with their photo albums and computers and she took the old pickup and left their new car in the garage.
I'd grab the OFC and the LAV Koa if I could, but in 2 minutes I don't know if I'd have time for those and the irreplaceable items. My wife and I would probably both die fighting over what's most important and which Porsche to try to fit it in.

I'm not sure I'd grab anything, but maybe the two Hamers, and possibly the prototypes. The insurance money would outfit one helluva replacement bandroom.

A year ago I had enough insurance on the guitars, but with the Mosrite on it's way, and the new acquisitions this past year, I need to up the policy.

Tim's comment was similar to what the secretary's husband said, but there are lots of things that aren't insurable. Both cars and all the guitars are replaceable to some extent. Women seem to think of momentos of raising the kids in the house. I would never have thought about grabbing the computer, until I saw that most of the evacuees who were interviewed said that's what they grabbed.
My secretary, who lives right on the edge of the foothills full of dry sagebrush, said she'd grab some clothes. That's the last thing I'd worry about, having something to wear the next day, but people have different priorities.
I'm more sentimentally attached to our house than my wife is. Maybe it's the headache of paying for it or the sweat equity of planting 50 trees and waiting for them to grow. The insurance would probably pay to rebuild a smaller house with whatever we need in it and my wife would be perfectly happy, but I'm not sure I could ever really replace some things. We also have an antique baby grand piano. It's not that special except that I spent a long time finding it and having it refinished. One daughter spent an awful lot of quality time on that piano.
Damon, we've checked on our insurance several times as the collection grew and were told that the guitars are insured at replacement cost with no limit. Talk to your agent and check your policy, but something like the Mosrite is probably not replaceable. There's also typically a time limit on replacement and that may go by too quickly.

before the digital age, folks would grab the photo albums. these days, about all the photos are on the computer if not burned to a CD yet.

Having once lost everything I owned in a fire (except the stuff I had at Mom and Dad's house) I have come to realize it's only "stuff". I DID have the guitars at the folks house, which made things easier, but the pictures, the high school yearbook, the stuff that can't be replaced...you learn to be grateful that you DID have it at one time, then you move on. In some ways it was very liberating. I wasn't tied down to all that stuff that owned me. That's why it was so easy to get rid of everything I owned that wouldn't fit in my Blazer when I moved here. Now, I'm back to having too much stuff. Time for a yard sale!
