Could it be that the bid at $725, retracted, bounced the next bid to $535, but that's the same bidder as the $355, so it bounced back down to $355? $355 is a good deal for somebody, but it's not me.

Pisses off the seller and is unfair to the "true" high bidder. Still really low with 30 minutes to go. Hopefully someone will grab this one.

Anybody else addicted to the Barrett-Jackson classic car auctions? I watch those for hours, then feel like crap for wasting the time, but I can't stop. I lived in the days when you could by those cars for less than retail. I bought a 1956 chevy Belair 2-door hardtop, complete, just for the engine, which wasn't running. Paid $100 and towed it home, removed the engine, then called the junkyard and had them tow the car sans engine away for free. I have a dozen similar stories.

A guitar that they made 1776 copies of. They made quite a few other models that are of much better quality in less or around 100 copies that you can't give away now. (the UTE comes to mind) I would think, other than the patriotic banding, this is a 500.00 guitar on a good day. OK, before I get buried in hate responses, I know a guitar is worth what the market will bring, but I just don't get it about this model. That's a lot of copies floating around to demand such a price. OK, open fire....

Maybe it wouldn't have gone that high if I hadn't told y'all about it. :p

Beal let me off easy with mine...he could have gotten more. I also can't help but wonder....what was the original retail? This might be one of the few Ovations that's holding up value-wise. Bearing in mind that I've flipped quite a few O's now, and noting that I'm admittedly biased, I still think this is one of Ovation's best, and certainly one of the more unique aesthetically. Like I said before, people like it or not. That's what makes guitars fun.

All three of the ones that I have had (kept the a/e) have been an outstanding example of the deep bowl, AAA Spruce, and A brace. If the pictures hadn't been poor quality, what appears to be several problems that weren't disclosed, no pictures of stated crack, ? fretwear, other chips/scratches, etc., I would have easily paid at least $550 for future profit. This looked to me as an 8.0 of 10. As to market, some O's will rebound faster than others. $700-900 for a 9.5 or higher would still be a good deal. Expect to pay at least $300 higher for an a/e (only 10% of the 1,776 issue were a/e). May have been 1,776 made but remember it is 33 years old. I have an a/e that had some problems...great job by Kim and staff at the factory. Occasionally gets played, displayed in the living room. Excellent guitar in all ways but, as a retired Marine Corps Officer, a commemoration of the sacrifices of many of our ancestors (T. Jefferson is a 1st cuz, Gen. G. Washington, Lt. Col. Light Horse Harry Lee, etc.). There are flag guitars, as well as guitars made from the "Liberty Tree". Personally, this is the best of the best.

Joined: March 2005 Posts: 5563 Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | From the first one I saw in 1976, it remained a guitar that I dearly wanted. As the years went by if I found one, it was either trashed or so expensive I couldn't aford it. Well, I finally found one. I took a chance as those pic's of the guitar also were not very good; however when I called the original owner, and with talk and additional pic's, I felt all would be OK. The guitar needed strings, a good cleaning, and several small tweaks. When I was done, I discovered a Patriot in near mint condition (remember the guitars are 33 years old). On the subject of the flag drape stencil: That is why I originally fell in love with this guitar. As a 2nd Gen. Marine that grew up in the Colonial cradle of our country, that flag and our history mean a great deal to me. It also meant a great deal to the original owner who felt the guitar was finally going back to the place in the country where it belonged. That helped him sell his beloved guitar to someone he never met. Whatever, for a company to recognize that period meant (and means) a great deal to me. The sound of the guitar is wonderful (AAA top and A bracing certainly help)...but I loved it because of what it represented...a period when being a Patriot meant everything... And for me, thats really something to treasure! YMMV, that's cool.

That 'distracting'/'unnecessary' adornment stands for all those that have, is and will bleed Red, White and Blue for our Freedoms and those that appreciate the same. And, as stated above, to have a company memorialize our nation's birth and our founding fathers is, at the very least, a notable 'Duty', if not 'Above and Beyond'. I'm the very proud owner of #59 and am thankful for the opportunity to pass it on to one of my descendents. Thank you Gents!

I've even watched a couple of used ones go by on eBay. I've also checked with Kim Keller about the cost involved (more than I thought it would be until he explained the bridge would need to be replaced with one routed for the pickup). The more I looked, the less original the guitar got, so I've drawn in those snares. I'll have to settle for having a near-mint example with a really cool number (76) to boot. I came real close to trying to pry #1 from Beal, but I don't think SWMBO would entirely understand two identical guitars. Still, I think about it on occasion. I also wonder who got #1776. I'd like to get hold of that one too. While I'm pipe-dreaming, I suppose I should buy a lottery ticket eh? BTW, for you vets on this post, here's my close-up of the stencil. My sentiments for this motif are identical to yours. And while I'm at it, Thank you kindly for your service.

As bad as things are here now, I will still respect and defend our country and flag to the end and not a day goes by that I don't pray for our country. I think that stencil and label are the only things that make this guitar any more than an A braced legend. The nutmeg color doesn't do a thing for me though, and I think what Patch said is very true. This is one you either fall in love with or don't give a second look. That said, I did have a bid in on it, ;) but it was much under what it went for. Maybe I'm not as in tune with the market as I thought. And Patch, that's a very nice picture! Yours looks to be in very nice shape and I echo your sentiments, thanks to all the Vets for their service to our country.
