Hey, I buy and sell guitars for a living too, but if didn't know the relative values of a couple of guitars, I'd ask Al. ;)

Ohh come on Al, ya gotta admit a snowball fight between to older guys concerning an argument that has nothing to do with anything of terrible importance is funny.
If not, then forgive me for seeing this on my end of it.
I meant no "shot" I only meant for this to be a humourus way for us to have any kind of opening to speak. But hey this is your place, you don't have to bridge any gap for me, I understand and appologize for making an effort that was not well recieved.
As for having Dave contact Al......Waskel why the pessimistic response? Have we ever traded guitars or words? I guess you missed the point I was making and you thought somehow I am trying to hid the estimated value of this guitar ........? on the contrary.. Dave is simply looking for other members who know me and know I am an honest guy to deal with. He already knows the estimated value of the Deacon. So your point is?

Al I thought you'd smile at this.....had no idea you were still this mad at me... I was obviously wrong to try and patch things up...I was obviously wrong about the way I thought you would see this message. After the "tens" of thousands of dollars I spent through you for customs and the countless calls and communications we've had...I thought the two of us knew each other better than this......I was certainly not looking to gain the response you just gave. Meant no offence. Seriously thought it was humorus.

See Dave, I told you this was an interesting site.

Wow, this thread took a left turn at Orion...

Seems as though there are some unhealed 'bruises' on both sides... too bad...

Hope you seal the deal! That's a fabulous git that plays like budda and will give ya more than most can extract. If ya keep it, wear it out! Report anticipated and expected.

Wow now I question this trade. What are the value of the two guitars?

I have a '99 Collector's Edition Ovation. Probably worth more than a Folklore, but I would trade it even just because I want a wider nut. If I'm not enjoying/playing the '99 but would play the Folklore, then it was a good deal for me regardless of the "numbers".

If you question the value of the trade it is easy enough to do searches and get the relative value of both guitars.

As dark bar pointed out, value is also relative.

Run it on Ebay. Best way to know. Other than that you have already asked that question in here in another thread. From what I rememeber in good times it can be worth from $1,000 to someone said $1,800. I personally have not seen one sell for $1,800 that I know of... ever. And it is not "Good Times" right now for sales... Now I suppose a high price could be possible but I would not bet on it in todays market.

As for the Fender Strat this is high end USA model and one of the retro copies from the 1990's and considered by anyone who knows the Fender Stratocasters one of the best of these vintage series strat's that Fender seems to love to make.
It is identical in every way accept color and pickguard to the "Jeff Beck" model but not his signature guitar series. These were well over the $1,500 mark new in the 90's. The Jeff Beck Models are wicked expensive.....This model has the full 22 frets, roller bearing nut, vintage pickups, rosewood fret board, five spring trem, vintage rectangular Fender case, and I have the vintage pearlized fender pickguard to go with it but did not put it on yet.
But you already know all this, you already have a guy who knows the Strat's better than most anyone in here does. Not sure how to help you, call me if your still interested but don't change your mind on me without calling first. I am glad I did not send this Start today as I almost did thinking I was being hard on you by making you send yours first.

If You've changed your mind. have the decency to tell me first will ya.

I have seen a number of excellent Deacon 12's sell for $1800 (or more). But in today's market? It would have to be the right buyer.

Y'all can ask MusicMike offline about his deal. He has a D12 that was a near twin to this one, and he recently sold it to a third party in an arms-length deal. But again ... that was a one-time deal that may or may not reflect what THIS deal would go for.

Regardless, I hope everyone gets what they want and are very happy. Truly.

It's probably just me, but MY Deacon12 is not available to the general market for anything less than $2500. That's what it would cost me to replace with something equivalent. YMMV.

Sounds like too many people have gotten stressed over their taxes or something. I thought Randy's lob at Mr. Big was very chummy.

And Dave, I haven't seen you this agitated since your Neighbor lady moved her workout spot away from the front window!

Dudes, go play your guitars or something...

This whole thread makes me realize that everybody, if they are going to buy or sell a guitar on the board (or anywhere) should do their homework and know what they are buying and selling and the appropriate price range.

Or at least know the price that makes you comfortable. A year ago, I sold my Preacher 12 (same guitar as a Deacon 12 but with a different body shape) to Iffy for, what was it Iffy, $7-$800?

It wasn't top dollar (altho' the guitar was literally in almost mint condition), but I bought it for about $600 several years earlier, had thought about selling it for top dollar ($1500-$1800) that I had seen on ebay, but decided that 1.) the money would do me the most good right then (ask me about my rebuilt Legend), and 2.) whenever possible, I'm going to give a good deal to a fellow OFC'er.

Always, always, always walk away from a deal knowing that you gave somebody, on the OFC, a good deal. You want top dollar for a sale or bottom dollar for a purchase, go someplace else. I'd say a good 85-90% of the people here look out for each other.

That's how it should be....

I'm like Bobbo.

I paid $1800 for my mint natural Deacon 12 and I wouldn't take less than $2500. YMMV

This really is an amazing thread when you think about it. Not sure if I have ever seen anything quite like this before.
I have an Adamas Baritone I have been told is only worth about $2,700 I would not part with for less than $4,000 but that information would not help someone else trading an adamas in any way really so I would not mention it.

A nice looking sunburst Deacon 12 with case got no bids on eBay at $1100 a few days ago. So on that day it wasn't worth that much to anyone and has been relisted with a slightly lower price. Next month it might sell for $700 or $1500. Who knows?

If I were able to buy a guitar for a low price and trade it for another I liked better, I'd be happy.

Now that's interesting. Thank you for that Dave. It is nice to see how obvious it is that some memebers would go out of their way to undermine a deal for another member. Let me thank those of you who are above the childish and back stabbing practices I have witness in here. You gentlemen I would like to meet and shake hands with face to face someday. The rest of you............WOW........Nice Job Boys!

The shame is on you gentlemen. I certainly have lost a lot of respect for this place over this deal. I hear everyone boast of "Community" and "Friendship", well my personal spat with Al aside................I have not had a bad dealing with anyone in here....ever......over a guitar or anything else. I'm not feeling the love gentlemen.

But what transpired in here was not "Well Done" gentlemen. I'd use harsher words but I am sure Al is looking for a reason to ban me.

From now on, I will do my best to keep my deals off this board.!!!!!!!!!!!! This Is Not A Friendly Site To Me. If an outside poster who came here to simply sell or trade a guitar can see it then what does that say about this group!

THERE IS MORE REAL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS GROUP IN THIS THREAD THAN IN ALL THE OTHER THREADS COMBINED!. Even some of the guy's who do not know me at all have emailed me and told me this.

I did not do anything wrong in here to warrent this thread...... Any decent member reading this will agree.......... I DID NOT expect the amount of worthless or outright subversive postings that were openly intended to hurt my deal.

If I were you Miles...Al....I would close this thread and get it to the bottom ASAP! Anyone from the outside can easily see I was not being well treated and I have not been mean or underhanded to anyone in here...... EVER.... as a member of this site. I'd want to hide this one if this were my sandbox.

Now tell me I am seeing something wrong here? Again, harser words are warrented but I won't give it to you that easy.

Pre-deal = nice, reasonable Randy
Post-deal = combative, angry Randy

You are right about one thing. Deals like this should be done off line and in private.

No; Pre Deal......open eyed member of this site....
Post Deal, open eyed and looking at the facts before me. whats your point here?

Any fool can see the implications and the statement it makes about this great site! These people did not do a service to the good standing of this place....but you choose to belittle me for it?

Sorry but I thought somewhere in the rules there is supposed to be a sense of community and decency. There were some who should have been questioned or outright stopped from their blatant disregard for these guidelines. If there is no concern for how I was treated in here then continue on. No need to make yourselves look any worse than you already do to any decent person reading that thread.

That was a blatant show of underhanded tactics.

If a guy who is not even a member can not believe how I was treated as a member and himself as well as just a guy looking for decent people who like the type of guitar he is selling.

That should tell you something. Each of you can choose to see what you want. I can't help that. Ignorance or jealosy or whatever worthless reason that would allow a few guys to do that to another member should not be as welcome as this silence shows me they are.

I guess I have to see things for what they are and move on. I enjoyed this site too.

Randy

You should not be angry at me......you should read the thread and see how some people can really be.

And so your saying it is not OK to ask this group to help a member with a sale like this? Communities like this opne and guitar sites all over do this for long standing members! YOU SPEAK FOR YOUR SELF. there are a lot of decent people in here who do not have a problem with this. Only a few who are not.

I have seen you mention my name in vane for the last time here.

I have not said word one about the vile foul mouthed e mails you sent me or the threatening phone call. (I have the tape)

ever since YOU blew up at me when I asked you to behave on the boards you have done nothing but to throw out cheap shots and comments.

It will be tolerated no longer.

you need some time away from this group.

enjoy it.
