You Know What?... I don't care if they're selling a million of them! I just wish I could afford to buy one! That is an absolutely beautiful instrument. Who knows ... maybe I'll win the lottery.

My only point is/was that the longer you wait the greater the risk. This is a chance to own a reissue of the most famous adamas ever built. In cases like this it's best to err on the side of caution. I had said all along that I didn't want a 47RI (I hate the red color) and I would wait for the OFC guitar. But to me the risk of the OFC guitar is too high and I didn't want to be shut out enturely, hence the 47RI on order with Al. If the OFC guitar actually happens, great then I'll own two wonderful instruments. I would just worry like hell what could happen if I walked into my dealer next October and said "Hey, how about getting me a 47RI?" The risk of being shut out is too high. Dave

Yep, I agree with Tuppy.

If you want one and haven't ordered one, you'd better get your skates on.

This was supposed to be a limited edition guitar for 2005, the last of the four 30th ann. Adamas models "avaliable in the 4th quarter of 2005".

I just callled my rep and the factory, and was told the same, thing, no limit on production, they are doing them as custom orders after the initial run is out, and the usual deposit is 50% of retail...

Actually Greg, That is EXTREMELY good news !!! We (at least I) was told that "all 47 of them must be identical". But now that they will do custom orders we can order different colors, electronics, neck widths, cutaways, etc. Great news man. Of course being now a custom order, it'll surely cost way more but that's OK. I wish we knew this 2 months ago (I hate that freaking red like you wouldn't believe). Anyway, thanks for clearing this up for us.

Hey - me again - the local resident pot stirrer.

:)

I feel like I've been on a roller coaster ride over these things this past month - I really just wanted an 1778LX (can get within a few weeks) and then the ME 12 string with a white pearl face (want that one by August - class reunion) - but I wanted to get the red one (I think it's gorgeous - but I'm a girl! LOL) sometime this year.

I guess what I'm saying is that a week ago - I thought I could think about getting the #47 - then with the "47 only" rumor hitting the fan, I thought I had to rethink everything and scramble for one if I wanted one.

At least now I can breathe a little and get orders in for the ME12 and the #47 and relax about it.

I'm sure looking forward to these. I miss my old Ovation 12 terribly - it was gorgeous (and never to be seen again) - but starting all over is pretty fun too.

Sally, don't sell yourself short. You've done a great service here. Thanks to your digging we now know that we can custom order 47RI's. This has opened up a lot of possibilities. Thanks so much.

and the gold, don't forget the gold - binding, flakes on the top and bowl, inlaids.

and you could hang all types of dangles from the epaulets.

although I believe the gold for the top and bowl are brass...

I used to own a bead shop. Don't get me thinking now - I could have a field day decorating the thing. LOL

(seriously, I'm thinking of making the mother-of-all-guitar-straps especially now that the #47 has got that ring instead of a pin/knob/whateveryoucallthatnormaldoohicky.)

Anybody got pics of any appropriate strap for the thing?

Sally,

What are you thinking of using to "make" your guitar strap?

We've discussed this previously, and the only really nice "Ovation-Style" strap I've seen was hand-made by another OFCer named Susan.

Here's a link she previously left for a 12-string Elite she was selling. If you scroll down the left side you'll see the strap she had made. I've never seen one as good as that, but I hope to someday have one made. Prehaps I can get one from one of the shops in Korea or Mexico. I'd like to get the same design done in something like Python or eel skin, like they do boots. :)

One problem I've noted with the Python strap is how it keeps on tightening....

On as for eelskin, depending on your preference, make sure you establish whether it's AC or DC.

Maybe you'd prefer something in a White Rhino strap? They're very hard wearing.

So much for the unique limited edition slothead.

If I knew that if I waited a few more months I'd be able to order any colour with any preamp etc, I'd I've waited and ordered a beige with electronics.

Guitar companies are good at this though.
I remember Rickenbacker releasing the Ltd Ed. Tom Petty model, with unique features only avaliable on this model for a very limited time and limited number.

What happened after the signature model was sold out, they wack a plain pickguard on and keep selling'em, except now they're actually cheaper and you can have any colour you want !

Nice.

I wonder what happens to the OFC guitar then. Originally it was said that for the factory to even consider making a small run of slotheads was a major drama.

....apparently not so.

I'm still excited about getting the #47.

bvince....

Thanks so much for the link to Susan's strap - very nice!

I'd love to have one similar to hers for the LX I'm going to get... I just need a black background.

But as far as one that I'm going to make for my signature strap, it's going to be more beaded and sculptural (at least that is what is in my head)... I'm thinking of starting a collage of times of joy in my life... times at the lake in MN, moutains of Colorado, my old bead shop, a '69 travel trailer I had... dogs... kids... log house in MN... oh the list goes on of strange stuff.. but it could be an interesting work of art when done... and maybe something my kids would appreciate down the road. I literally want one that is frameable. :)

I've seen some custom straps done on various internet pages - and I could do better given the time to goof with it.

Maybe that's my calling... to make $5,000 guitar straps for celebrities. LOL

Sally - who's mission is to go repo my Backpacker this weekend from the friend that's had it for 5 years! Nails are getting chopped on Monday. :)

Sally,

I was thinking the same thing, as far as being able to do a better strap myself, than many of the ones I've seen. I have a pretty extensive background in art, with my main degree in graphic design. The problem is finding the time, and investing in a bunch of leatherworking tools. It would probably be easier to just design it and have someone else in a third-world country make it for me. With my luck though, he probably mass produce it and it wouldn't be my design anymore. Hey ... I used to live in Denver back in the early eighties (Stationed at Lowry AFB) and I loved it. I wish I could still be living in Colorado. You're very fortunate to be living near the rockies.

Sorry I got off on a rabbit trail from the original topic. Like I said ... I sure wish I could afford one of the 47s. I guess I'll just have to wait for some kind of windfall.

just took delivery of 3 of these guitars.
all I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

absolutely spectacular instruments. The attention to detail is great. The center does not seem too dark in person. The guitar is light as a feather in fact it weights almost nothing I sincerly thought they sent me empty cases.

The most spectacular thing about these guitars is the sound. they are LOUD, they are consistent up and down the neck, regardless if you play cowboy chords or jazz. But what really got me was the resonance. I hit a chord and then held the top to my ear to listen for the degeneration of sound. I did not time it but it seemed like it took FOREVER To fade.

My initial reaction is that these instruments are everything they were suppose to be and then some.
I will give more information after I spend a little more time with them...

Al, welcome to the 47RI Appreciation Club.

There are a couple of guys on the OFC that every time I get another guitar ask me if the 30th Anniv Custom Legend is still my favorite (maybe it is because I have three). Even when I got the U681T, I said the Custom Legend. Check out an earlier post, this is my favorite and the finest guitar (as an acoustic) that I have.

And, when I brought the box into the house, it was noticeable how light it was.

I'm still moving my household budget numbers around in an Excel spreadsheet to figure out how I'm going to spring for one of these... LOL... I think the guitar is absolutely gorgeous...

BUT.. I had no idea it would be light (remember, I'm living vicariously though you dudes)....

So how much lighter than other guitars is it?

Lighter weight would be a big plus to me. :)

Al's ringing endorsement only adds to my anticipation.

I guess the reason for the light weight could be the fact that there is no preamp/pickup system to weigh it down. Also I think the original hand laid bowls (as used on this model) are lighter that a standard turtleback (except LX'ers of course).

When I grabbed the box from the DHL driver (he looked like he was going to drop it), it felt like it was empty. Feels 30-40% lighter than the 1687. For those with the JL3 (which we noticed was light), it is noticeably lighter.

Hey Tony...

I've got an accurate shipping scale here - if you want to send over a couple of guitars - including the 47RI - I could spend about a week making some very scientific analyses about them and report back here.

:)
