Takamine F400S back in 1975. I never should have sold it, but ... the family needed food and shelter. There are days I wish I still had it, but life had been good to me since.

Univox Les Paul copy
Oooooo The guy in my old band had one. I liked it better than any Les Paul I have played. That was one hell of a copy.
Here is a picure of it (plus a little more "eye bleach" for ya)

My mother got it for me in 1970 when I was in high school.....a Sears Silvertone solid-body made by Danelectro, with ONE (and only ONE) lipstick pickup, black sparkle finish and a white pickguard. Also had the amp in case (all tube!).

Couldn't get feedback out of it except to hit a chord HARD, hold the pickup up to the amp (about 1 inch away), and wait for 5 seconds....if I was lucky!

I think it was/is a Sears Silvertone f-hole guitar, from the 1930's. It was my dad's, then my uncle's (when they were boys), and my uncle gave it to me in about 1967 (?). Then for Christmas in 1970, my mom got me a $40 no name nylon string, then in late 1972 I bought myself an Ovation Artist.

To be honest...I had to think about it for a few minutes.
But...that Univox was one awesome guitar. Heavy as all get out but it sure played nice.

I think I already posted this sometime in the past, but I guess it doesn't hurt to recall my memory (once again) about my starter guitar. :)

My first guitar was a Gibson knockoff that my aunt end up giving to me, in response to her anger toward her daughter (my 1st cousin) who eloped with her beau at that time! It was made in the Philippines and the looks of the guitar alone could easily fool anyone for the real thing, but soundwise it's a piece of crap. It had the trapezoid inlays, the bird-like images on the pickguard, and even the Gibson logo on the headstock. Nevertheless, I really learned how to play from that guitar, until I accidentally smashed it one day, after taking a shower.

Mine was a Hohner from the late 70's early 80's. I paid $75 with a gig bag. Had a painted fingure board that i literaly wore the paint off of. Bought it new after I had borrowed some sort of arch top. My parents finally knew I was serious about it. I had played piano, then quit. Then trumpet, then quit. Then I ask for a guitar and they said no way. So being a good son I continued to nag them about one. Then finaly after months and months, our pastor said he had a old guitar he would loan us. After I wore out the Hohner our pastor told my parents the guitar was stunting my learning, so they told him to find me a guitar that would last me a life time. Well he then took me to several stores and I ended up with a Guild D35NT. I don't have it but wish I did. Keep looking for one.

My first guitar was a sunburst HondoII LP copy with a set neck and DiMarzio humbuckers that I got for $25 from my buddy who worked at the local music store. It actually was a solid axe (Really Screamed!) To bad I was just a beginner back then! My second guitar was a Deacon that I sold to the same friend way to cheap! Lot of memories associated with those two guitars, wish I still had them both! Lot of axes have come and gone over the years but you never forget the ones you regret parting with!

My Mom wanted me to take guitar lessons when I was 5 at the YMCA or some place like that. She got some acoustic guitar. I have no idea what brand. I went to 2 or 3 lessons and that was it for me. That acoustic was always around the house and at some point was dropped and had huge crack on the side where your right elbow would be.

In my teen years I started picking it up and noodling around not knowing what I was doing. The crack was kind of nice because it was like a built in whammy bar if you squeezed your elbow in while playing.

The first guitar I ever bought... when I was 18 I sold the baseball cards that were boxed up collecting dust under my bed and bought a Applause (weren't they... aren't they owned by Ovation) Strat copy. Red with White pick guard. I still have it today. In fact I recently saw the original receipt for it. I'd like to recondition it... the tremelo is rusted out, probably needs a refret and new pickups and electronics.

The first guitar, with my own money, I ever bought was a banjo. 18 years-old. Anyway, 6 months later it was traded for the dreadnaught pictured in my gallery.

I can still play criple creek though!

My first guitar was a Sears Silvertone jumbo that my Dad bought from a pawn shop in 1960. I eventually ran over it on a dirt bike on a dark desert night. My second guitar was a mid-50's Gibson ES125 3/4T. My first Ovation came in 1973.
