That was six years ago now, and that one purchase has been leveraged into two motorcycles and two guitars. Two simple rules work for me. First, make sure she has her toys first: Drop $300 at Eddie Bauer on her and I guarantee you will get at least $1000 headroom for your guitar purchases. Second, your car is ALWAYS the POS. Her's is nice.

I knew this before I got it, but I only paid $800. I hadn't told my wife. I was gonna figure something out. Then we found out Maryanne had cancer. The day before her sergury I had to go and pick up the guitar that I had purchased behind her back.I took it to a friend and said I didn't want to see it. 2 weeks later, I'm taking her to the airport where she'll fly to a friend's in England for a month of down time. I told her on the way to the plane what I'd done. She looked at me with a kindness I'll never understand and said "well..you got a good deal, right?" That guitar burned up along with everything else we owned 4 years ago when our house burned to the ground. I still have Maryanne. I'll not do anything so foolish ever again in my life. John <>{

We can only add, not take away" Pretty cool, got to keep her :)

She doesn't understand why I have five guitars and I use the investment excuse. I have to calm my GAS urges...I don't think I will pull that one again on her next birthday. Or I may be singing solo...

She buys stuff for the house and figures I'll reciprocate with a guitar. I've tried all the tricks, but she knows what's going on. Some guys buy cars and golf clubs, women buy clothes. Make sure she isn't wanting any then get the best deal you can. That's part of being married. Also, it doesn't hurt to play her or your mother or daughter a love song once in awhile.

My wife says the same thing about guitars in general. I have about 12 electrics, 2 Ovations, Mandolins autoharp, dulcimer steel guitars...... You have to compromise. Find out what she wants and make your want seem so insignificant. Of course she may want a new husband and......won't go there. Bottom line: You are not alone. I have been married almost 30 years. If you are a fan of Red Green, call him for advice. You'll have your new guitar faster than he can say "Keep Your Stick On The Ice". CANTOM (From the Great White North)

They offer enough different flavors to keep the GAS at bay....for now. I told my wife I was thinking about selling the Breadwinner to help finance UTE. She said, "No way...don't sell the Breadwinner!".

I probably came up with the 101 best excuses for spending a small fortune on what amounts to a luxury item... in the end I decided to do what's best for my health and tell the truth upfront... that it's a GUARANTEED investment... much better than the stock market... of course this only works when stocks aren't doing that well... anyway, I lived to talk about it.
