In light of my bride's past 18 months, Glenn's challenges and TJ's recent scare, "Amazing Grace"!

There are soooo many others that I could post here for entertainment purposes, but the above will do for now. Many are clever, humorous, some profane, and fewer relevant...

Take care and love life!

OK, Weaser, here you go. It got first.

Broken Gospel Band Aug 08, 2008

I think it’s time I went back home
This life here on the road sure is getting old
Playing these Gospel songs At tent revivals all night long
Then pack up and move on down the road

When I was young I thought this would be all kinds of fun
Playing and singing for everyone
The churches all said come With your guitars and drums
The Lord will reward, and then some

Funny how it’s never quite the way they say it is
And it’s not that they really lie
It’s just that there are two sides to everything
But only one side's in the light

Burned up my best years on the road with this band
Cost me a wife and both my children
They went back to Tennessee She said all you’re ever be
Is the guitar guy in that Broken Gospel Band

Now it was hard to face all that pain
I tried everything, even praying
I admit, it helped me some But it was never, quite enough
All the hurt and anger, still remain

Funny how it's never quite the way they say it is,
And it's not that they really lie
It's just that there's always two sides to everything
And only one side's in the light

The hardest thing is to look the truth in the eye
To know you were wrong and living a lie
I gave and got nothing back Except ulcers and a heart attack
It’s time for this guitar guy to see the light

So I’m going, on back home
I’ve had enough beating from the road
I’m workin’ hard and staying poor Paid my dues & then paid some more
Time to give up this heavy load
Give it all up before I’m too old

Making your way in the world today
Takes everything you've got;
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name.

This reminds me... I need to stop by the local watering hole real soon!

"it must be the jet lag
you hope it'll pass
you check your reflection
in the store front glass
kinda grey at the temples
kinda goes with the hat
kinda round in the middle
but it aint even that
it's nothing you can see
it's nothing you can smell
but you pose no danger
and man they can tell"

I never will forget those nights
I wonder if it was a dream
Remember how you made me crazy
Remember how I made you scream

Don Henley "Boys of Summer"

********

Sweet mother, she sang in the Sunday choir
On her head was a halo, she spoke brimstone and fire
Daddy lived by the bottle, and he died by the barn
Well he froze one night, Mama said serves him right
The devil can keep him warm

We all got holes to fill
And them holes are all that's real.
And some fall on you like a storm,
Sometimes you dig your own.

The choice is yours to make,
And time is yours to take;
Some dive into the sea,
Some toil upon the stone.

Well to live's to fly
All low and high,
So shake the dust off of your wings
And the sleep out of your eyes;

Well shake the dust off of your wings
And the tears out of your eyes.

Our daughter and son-in-law did something different at their wedding. They dedicated a song to honor each set of parents, and we each had to get up and dance to "our" song while they danced with us. Jack and I had no idea they were going to do this; keep in mind, he was nine weeks away from his death.
The last lines of the chorus in the song they picked for us were,

"If you want to see what true love can be
Look at us."

--Karen (Seven years later, the tears still mist up when I think about it...)

I always liked the lyrics to "Ben" by Michael Jackson. Even more fun if you replace the word "Ben" with "Macaulay Caukin"

When you've seen beyond yourself -
Then you may find peace of mind, is waiting there -
And the time will come when you see we're all one,
And life flows on Within You and Without You . . .

I get a different song stuck in my head every day, depending on what I heard on the radio on the way in or some other event. We were trying to return a call to someone named Lisa all weekend, so I had "I'm not Lisa, my name is Julie" from some old song in my head.

As I grow older, it's been, "But in looking back at the faces I've been, I would sure be the first one to say, I wouldn't a done it any other way."

Hey Oddball, great song from Michael! Have you heard "Emilio" yet? It hasn't been recorded yet, but he does it at his live shows. He's one of my favorite guitarists, and a heck of a nice guy too.

"Emilio lives in an attic
Plays a flamenco guitar
Arpeggios fall out the window
And roll down the fenders of rusted out cars..."

Thought-provoking lyrics from Kansas (with a nice Ovation-featuring video into the bargain):

I close my eyes,
only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams,
pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind,
all they are is dust in the wind.

Same old song,
just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do,
crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see

Dust in the wind,
all we are is dust in the wind

[Now] Don't hang on,
nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away,
and all your money won't another minute buy.

Dust in the wind,
all we are is dust in the wind
