I think it’s time I went back home
This life here on the road sure is getting old
Playing these Gospel songs At tent revivals all night long
Then pack up and move on down the road
When I was young I thought this would be all kinds of fun
Playing and singing for everyone
The churches all said come With your guitars and drums
The Lord will reward, and then some
Funny how it’s never quite the way they say it is
And it’s not that they really lie
It’s just that there are two sides to everything
But only one side's in the light
Burned up my best years on the road with this band
Cost me a wife and both my children
They went back to Tennessee She said all you’re ever be
Is the guitar guy in that Broken Gospel Band
Now it was hard to face all that pain
I tried everything, even praying
I admit, it helped me some But it was never, quite enough
All the hurt and anger, still remain
Funny how it's never quite the way they say it is,
And it's not that they really lie
It's just that there's always two sides to everything
And only one side's in the light
The hardest thing is to look the truth in the eye
To know you were wrong and living a lie
I gave and got nothing back Except ulcers and a heart attack
It’s time for this guitar guy to see the light
So I’m going, on back home
I’ve had enough beating from the road
I’m workin’ hard and staying poor Paid my dues & then paid some more
Time to give up this heavy load

They dedicated a song to honor each set of parents, and we each had to get up and dance to "our" song while they danced with us. Jack and I had no idea they were going to do this; keep in mind, he was nine weeks away from his death.
The last lines of the chorus in the song they picked for us were,
"If you want to see what true love can be
Look at us."
