Paul 1687. It's hard to be right. We've covered all this and I agree with you. We've said all that before. Let's wait till the 4th qtr and see what the next step is, a good guitar or another bucket.

Thru all this discussion (and PH, I too, think you should get of the MOB rag), the best most cutting comment was Dave's regarding "My Other Bitch". Now Dave, I've met your wife, and I am assuming that you didn't marry the MOB?

Hey PH

You have stirred up a bucket of merde, and have rattled almost everybody's cage except mine, I have already proclaimed my intention of surfing the curl on waikiki on an MOB. my only concern is that it is sturdy enough for the hottest curl existing. I just saw TV coverage of the top surfers and they weren't riding MOB's. should I be looking for a more reliable board?

Hey Bailey - Glad I'm not the only one who watches that "Surfer Girls" show on MTV.

Actually I love surfing movies. Man I was like 10 years old when "Endless Summer" came out and all I wanted to do was surf. The Frankie and Annette beach party movies were great too. I just couldn't figure out how they got those Fender Jags and P-basses to sound so good unplugged on the beach. If they had used an Ovation MOB in those movies, it could have changed the course of Ovation history and guitar history in general.

"Five Summer Stories" is my all-time fave surf movie ... and the soundtrack written and performed by Honk (a local band from Laguna Niguel back in the day) is still one of my favorite pieces of vinyl. It turned "surf music" on its ear and no doubt caused Brian Wilson to go back to wiggling his toes in his sandbox and ponder the meaning of life.

Guys

I saw surfers in a monster curl on TV, and they were dragging their left hand in the wave beside them, looking like no one could survive the wave breaking over their head, then they coasted in to the beach like they were riding a La Jolla cave wave. This was big time surfing, and I'm not sure where it was, but it was just last week.

As far as I know, Hawaii north shore is the only place with consistant waves that big. There have been a lot of shows about that area in the past couple of weeks. I would assume there are other places with big waves like that, I just have not seen them.

This is just too cool...

I thought is was a long board too, but I think it's just a 6 footer..

As someone who could really care less one way or the other (about the guitar), I think you are all are being right bastards to each other (those who are arguing / slinging mud). Shit I though this was suppose to be a fun place where I come to look for GP's for sale. Now it's like a bridge club with a buch of old ladies bickering. Everybody get of everyone's back. No one's right, no one's wrong. And if Paul or anyone else wants to go off on their opinion well so fucking what? It's a message board, isn't that the point? And if you don't like it well shit man that's life. Cliff and I have gotten into it about the Queens a few times. I stated my opinion, he stated his, and heck I have no ill feelings toward him. News Flash - different people like different shit. So why make it a personal argument? And not in anyone's defense but it seems like Paul H. was just saying what he thought and then it became an all out attack on him - personally. Then he retaliated and so on. That's pretty silly for a bunch of "grown men". That's just what I think. That and that QOTSA are one of the best rock bands alive and that the GP is my favorite guitar. This is a forum about guitars and music right? Hello...is this thing on?

You are right, some of the disagreements have taken a personal turn, maybe some of it is just trying to be funny, every opinion here should be respected, and encouraged. If we all liked the same music, instruments and politics, and religion, then we would fade away into an homogeneous mess as if we were ground in a blender. None of us are going to affect what happens to a particular product, but we can all help the Ovation brand in general. Maybe the old fuddy duddy image comes from some of our brushes with early Ovations, forcing us, by nature and time, to be old fuddy duddies. but we weren't old back when we first touched our first Ovation. You will be posting in a voice cracked and aged in 30 years as the youngsters knock that bunch of a resting home house band formerly known as QOTSA, as they stagger through their set still playing a beautiful sounding Ovation.

Hey Icky, noone has a problem with Paul H's opinion. But the fact that he states it over & over again has turned the board into a bore-fest every time the subject of this particular guitar crops up.

There is no problem with stating an opinion EVER. Unfortunately IMHO blanket statements serve no purpose.
Paul H asked me questions. I responded. If he did not like the tone and manner in which I responded well, I cannot do anything about that.
The study of marketing is interesting. The way products are presented to the public and what motivates people to buy. My only comment was that the MOB was marketed with a really cool matching surfboard. Apparently there was major offense taken to this. I have no clue why. I tried in my own way to make Paul H perhaps understand why this was an interesting marketing technique. Hell I even apologized for it turning into a bitch fest.
I am not a marketing puke and maybe not even a good salesman, but I do understand why their job is done. I think we all have agreed over and over that this guitar is not for everyone. I do think that ovation does benefit from the controversy. say good things or bad things about me just spell my name right.

here is a John Gorka song I am thinking about learning for the next OFC and maybe it will give some of you a clue into my peronality.

"I'm From New Jersey" - John Gorka

Intro: D Gmaj7 (320030) D G A

D Gmaj7
I'm from New Jersey, I don't expect too much

D G A
If the world ended today, I would adjust.

D Gmaj7
I'm from New Jersey, no I don't talk that way

D G A
I watched too much TV when I was young

D Gmaj7
I'm from New Jersey, my mom's Italian

D G A
I've read those mafia books, we don't belong.

Bridge:

C Bm A
Girls from New Jersey who have that great big hair

G Bm A G
They're found in shopping malls, I will take you there

I'm from New Jersey, it's not like Texas
There is no mystery, I can't pretend
I'm from New Jersey, it's like Ohio,
But even more so, imagine that

I know which exit, and where I'm bound,
Tolls on the parkway they will slow you down.

New Jersey people, they will surprise you
'Cause they're not expected to do too much
They will try harder, they may go further,
'Cause they never think that they are good enough

I'm from New Jersey, I don't expect too much
If the world ended today I would adjust

A D
I would adjust

G A D
I would adjust

Hey Al-

Can you give me any details on the new Melissa guitar? You mentioned a "modular preamp"...what exactly is that? Is the guitar structurally any different-still an Adamas SMT? Did you play it? How did it play/feel/sound? How about color...they mentioned to me at the tour they were going to change the appearance too. Will it be in stores soon so I can try it? What price range?

Mouthful of questions...sorry. It's my main interest in this year's NAMM stuff...you know I've been waiting for this guitar!

Thanks for any info.

Hope you are feeling well.
All the best,
Johnny

It has the modular preamps now like the rest of the Ovation line. I did not notice any other cosmetic differences.
Yes I played it and it played as well as any other ME 12 out there. Sorry I cannot give you any more info. I was on Namm overload too much to see too little time.

Al;

Thanks for posting the chords to that John Gorka song!
I'd heard it a few times on WFUV-FM and really liked it (I gotta get the CD).
If in fact you DO decide to play it at the next OFC Jam,
perhaps John (Strumming12) and I could back you up?
It'd be an honor.

It seems when you put this many people in the same "room" (especially when being devoid of emphasis, inflection and "tone of voice") it's seems like it's somewhat easy to "step on someone's toes" (especially if there are those that don't really "know" you and what you're on about.).

I've often been told (by friends and business colleagues) that one of the qualities that I possess is a sardonic sense of humor. It is one of the "qualities" (along with an "artistic eye", and some others) that I have passed onto my teenage daughter. I have cautioned her that being blessed with the gift of "sarcastic wit" can be used to your advantage in innumerable circumstances, BUT . . . like an exotic spice, it must be garnered with restraint as a little too much can turn you into an "instant asshole" (especially if the recipient is the bearer of an "uneducated palette").

Some time ago I received an e-mail from someone here who was somewhat "perturbed" by my "offensive" sense of humor (the example of such was not even directed at this person, but to someone that I constantly "joke" with) and my penchant for veering off the intended course of various threads. Evidently, there are those that "get" me, and those that obviously don't. If there is anything that I have posted which some of you may deem "offensive", I heartily apologize as it was certainly not my intent. If in fact you would like me to apologize for my sense of humor and my personality, I will readily do so as well . . . . . providing you go fuck yourself first.

As I recently told someone else here (through a private e-mail), I've relegated myself to self-imposed "lurkerdom" and navigate through threads/posts utilizing mouse clicks with my cordless keyboard kept far outside of arm's reach (and myself out of trouble). If by chance there is something that I can contribute regarding CBalladeers or Adamas SlotHeads (or whatever "Ovation") I shall do so. But I'll keep my comments, stories, jokes, quips, remarks, anecdotes, and general "low-class barbs" to myself (and the e-mails of those who "get" me) and hopefully eliminate pricking the sensitive gossamer epidermis of those that don't.

"All Skate!"

peace,

c.

Cliff...

I've been wondering where the hell you've been!!! I missed ya. I thought maybe you away on vacation...or that something happened (I guess it did) here on the site that pissed you off.

Perhaps it's my "Jerseyness", but I find many of your threads hilarious. Maybe it's local "inside" humor...or maybe the overflow of NYC toxins has affected our brains over time.

It's easy to understand how written words can be misinterpretted, and especially written sarcasm could be taken offensively. It might be hard to know it's even sarcasm without knowing the person delivering it. Happens all the time.

Granted, I don't know what exactly transpired with you and the "offended", but it seems people's intentions are being misread all over this site. Just the other day I read someone taking offense to Paul T's answer to a question. A huge surprise to me, considering he's generally incredibly generous with his vast knowledge, and a great guy as well.

I just wish I could say the same for you (ha ha...sarcasm!). If it matters, I hope you choose to "come back" in the same capacity you were on this site. I miss your humor.

Were all musicians, with different social backgrounds and have different personality types. A lil' tolerance is really needed...sometimes things have to be taken with a grain of salt, and in my experience, sometimes someone might step on you, intentionally or unintentionally. It's life...stuff happens. This is such a great site, and your threads were a good part of my enjoyment of it.

Be well, bro...
Johnny

That's it. We will learn the tune and do it at OFC2.
As Kim's better half Amy said to me the next day "did you notice how all the Jersey people got up there and jammed? Jersey musicians know how to Jam!"
Looks like we from Jersey need a bonding experience!

Well, geez. I figured it was because the dog days of summer are on us and ITS JUST TOO DAMN HOT and people tend to get on each OTHERS NERVES in the F---ING HEAT...

Anyway, the temperature around these parts has cooled down to 96, after several triple digit days.

Thanks for the pics from namm and the chords to the John Gorka tune, which I can't help but post these lyrics:

"So won't you let me help you Mister
Just pull your hat down the way I do
And buy your pants just a little longer
And next time somebody laughs at you

You just tell 'em you're not from Texas
That's right you're not from Texas
That's right you're not from Texas
But Texas wants you anyway

That's right you're not from Texas
That's right you're not from Texas
That's right you're not from Texas
But Texas wants you anyway"

That's Right (You're Not From Texas)
Lyle Lovett, Willis Alan Ramsey and Alison Rogers.

Making plans for OFC Tour #2.............

So let me get this straight, no more Cliff? Damn. Well, there goes all the good Hootey and the Blowfish jokes. And check out the brain on Cliff, using big words and shit. He even used a couple of them correctly. Now if he'd just work on his grammar no one would have to know he's from New Jersey.

Note to board members: This is an example of playful ribbing. Please follow my template and future tensions can be avoided. You're welcome.

Would Jack Johnson from Hawaii be a good endorser for the MOB? Or is he already?

After all, he is an ex-surf champion who makes acoustic-electric music. Nice CD's by the way.
