I'll have to do that with a guitar and see if it works the same.

I keep thinking about stuff that the kids would like and/or need. My son needs a new violin, as he has outgrown his 7/8 size a year ago. I'd love to get him a decent one, not a $500 music store student grade but a $2k or so master shop instrument. My girls both have GAS real bad for a textured top ADAMAS. They and their friends are always having impromptu jams in the music room or the living room. Having an A to pass around would be fun. If we're going down the financial drain, might as well do it with the best musical instruments in hand!

In a world of failed marriages, estranged children, terminal deseases, long distance relocations and all kinds of other stuff I think this is a pretty significant gift for which I am very grateful.

This one will be a bit more expensive, since my daughter moved to California and I didn't trust her old Ford to make it, so I bought "myself" a new VW and gave it to her. My father in law used to worry every time we took a trip in the old junkers we used to have. Now I know why. I just gave myself a lot more sleep.

Glad to see it headed your way and I hope it sounds every bit as good as advertised!

The three of us haven't been together on Christmas morning (or anytime during the holidays for that matter) in at least 15 years, nor does it appear likely to happen in the future, either.

We're trying to get some of the clutter out of our lives. But I'm busy making dust in the workshop for younger peoples presents. Besides; I already got all the present I need in Dvd's former Reso guitar.....almost sounds like a banjo when you pluck it right. Haven't tried it with the old metal finger picks yet....

We are fortunate to see them on breaks and in the summer but that is changing this year and probably will be moreso in the future. We had them home for Thanksgiving and took Friday off and went to the Detroit institute of arts, science center and a movie. Just like old times. I really cherished it knowing that days like that will be dwindling in the future. Truley it was a great gift for me. It makes all the material stuff look insignificant. I hope you all get what you really need for Christmas and not necessarily what we want. What a bunch of sappy middle aged men we have turned out to be :)

Joined: March 2002 Posts: 15664 Location: SoCal | Already got my Xmas present (well, one of them). I had an ITouch that I got a year ago. It was stolen and I bought the latest one (hundred bucks cheaper, slimmer, and more features). Realized I wasn't really using it and gave it to my son who wanted it for a birthday present. My wife just got me a 16 gig IPod. Perfect for me. All the features I want and none of the ones I never use. I'm also having my old, POS 78 Legend rebuilt with a new body (cloth bowl, A bracing, AAA spruce top, no electronics, and a bone saddle and nut). So I guess that's a present to me from me. But when I get the final cost on it, I'm going to sell my Preacher 12 string, so watch this space for a great guitar for sale.......

Shoot, that should make it twice as good then! My present to us is I have prepared finances so that my Wife doesn't HAVE TO work! Now she can volunteer and pursue what she likes to do. That and a Daughters wedding in June gives us some great excuses not to overspend and just enjoy each other.
