What kind of finish will you use? Same finish for the neck? The wood for the backs and sides look rich. At a minimum, it'll be a beautiful guitar.

an4340 ,The finish will be same as martin.I dont want to use the poly finish like Ovation.I have also considered doing a graphite top adamas project with rosewood back and sides..Still waiting for this one to end before i decide to start the next one..Paul, good to hear from you.Have not seen you around here in a while.

If you start another project you might consider using one of these in the neck:

Moses Truss Rod Channel

Sam, did you spec every detail out or has the luthier contributed his thoughts to the materials used.

Stephen,i had specific things i wanted on this guitar. It had to have the carved bridge, heel and headstock and the apelettes. In other words it has to look like a wooden adamas. When someone sees it from the front they will say its an ovation. Then when you flip it around it will be of course a bit like a 000 style martin..I specified the East Indian rosewood sides and back, even hand picked it out of about 25 sets he had.The top is an original AAA ovation top from the 70's that been sitting at my home. The rest is up to him.He has freedom on the bracing and guts of the guitar. The finish will be laquer..Check out the links above and read about Brian. He is going to a great builder for years to come.Bill Kaman take note and call this guy.You will want one of his guitars.Everyone who has ever played one is amazed at the tone, sustain and quality.Im very sure mine will sound great as well.He is doing an amazing job building my guitar with all my special features and requests..

Thanks to Sam and everyone else interested in our little project.Things are going fine and I'm hoping to get quite a bit done this week. This koa binding is screaming at me as I type. I'm trying to get Sam to let me inlay some diamonds in the headstock to "Bling Bling" it up a little but I don't think he's going for it. If you have any unwanted loose gemstones lying about send them to me and maybe we can change his mind.

Hey Brian, thanks for joining the board..Maybe you can answer some questions that some of the OFC memebers might have about the "wood slothead adamas" project or about guitar building in general..Heres my question? WHEN THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO FINISH!! :D :D :D

That was good Sam!

On topic, The pegheads of Ovations have customarily been void of "Bling", unlike the M's, G's, T's and the other G's. I would consider it to be "sacred ground", especially if a carved head were the case.

The back of the peghead, on the other hand, is just plain ignored! May I suggest a delicate inlay of "Olive Branch" to signify Peace and Provision.

Save the Palm Tree for another project!

He was just kidding about the diamonds and "bling" on the adamas project. The last thing i want on this guitar is anything like abalone or flash. The theme is "wood",thats why i chose rosewood side and back, flame koa binding, spruce top and mahogany and maple neck..The headstock will look like a slothead adamas and the carved heal will be hand carved by Brian to match teh original..No flash no bling here just beautiful woods...

Beautiful project Sam. Do you have a name for the guitar yet? You already have a "wood top Adamas' now you have a "wood back and sides Adamas". :)

I think ovation knew this and thats why they named the guitar "adamas" after me.

Hey did you know that Cliff backwords is "ffilc" which has no connection with anything. :D :D

First, our pal Sam tells you guys this guitar I'm building for him "Might sound like poo!"....Now, he uses this place as a public forum to pressure me. "When the hell am I going to finish?!!!!!!" How can I finish when you keep adding all of these extravagant details like the trucker mudflap lady fretmarker inlays? I need a nap.

Brian,

He's just trying to lower our expectations for it...and keep us from breaking into your shop the day before he arrives to pick it up.
