What does a guy from south Florida wear to the fall jam in the Smoky Mountains?

Trader Jim taking pictures.

BTW: Jim, Did Bubba's girlfriend have any tattoos? :D

I know the name Bubba is a punchline, but we owe that guy a debt of gratitude. How about when somebody goes out of their way to help someone else, we call it "pulling a bubba"?

Hey All Y'All!

Left Virginia @ 9 this morning--the Joisey Goils are home safe and sound. I had a great time! Wonderful to have new family! I had fun jamming in the living room--for a Nothern girl didn't go outside much--too cold for me! Sorry I missed all the music and folks who hung outside most of the time. Thanks to all for passing around the guitars--I, too, have never seen so many guitars in one place! I enjoyed playing a number of them.

A factory tour is 'just around the corner' for me (3 hours), but I'd come back to the cabin (with Karen) for another Southern Jam. Thanks, Keith, for feeding and providing for us. Sorry we didn't get to say goodbye. It was great fun to meet everyone. Thanks, Trader Jim, for the photos--now I have faces to put with the names for some great memories.

Iffy--I pray y'all are feelin' better real soon!!!

Watch out--all y'all haven't seen the last of me!

Cheryl :D

Welcome to the OFC Cheryl!!! Glad that y'all nade it home OK.

I knew that a smart Joisey gal, like yourself, could figure out how to sign on to the OFC.

It was great meeting you this weekend and hearing your great singing and playing. You have a leg up on a lot the members here...you are a "jam" attendee.

Stick around and enjoy the fun....no, really, we can be fun.

We will be thinking about you Johnny!!!

Jim

Welcome aboard, Cheryl! It was great meeting and jamming with you and Karen. I told you already, but it bears repeating - you have a beautiful voice.

Glad y'all made it home safely, and looking forward to the next get-together.

Hey, all y'all;
"J-G #1" is now home, safe and sound.
What a wonderful experience. A true blessing. New vistas, new faces, new friends, new guit-axes, new songs...and...new GAS.
Would love to come to another Southern Jam, but wouldn't want to have to go too much further. As with my compatriot, yoose haven't seen da lasta me, eder. ;)
Thank you, Keith, for your kind hospitality; thank you, TJ, for the wonderful pictures. To everyone else, thank you for all the memories to pull out and cherish.
I have a suggestion for a new name for "TR Boy;" having followed him down off of the mountain, in a billowing, blinding cloud of dust much larger than anything the Lone Ranger and Tonto ever could have hoped to raise, I think "Motoring Maniac Mike" is a really good choice if he tires of the old one...... ;) :D
Johnny, the Steely-Eyed Northern Girls are praying for your complete recovery. We love you...
Personally, I only had one disheartening experience over the weekend, and that was on Sunday. Do you know that Burger Kings in South Carolina don't sell hot tea? Only iced. (A real bummer.)
Hugs and love to all,

--Karen

Thanks, Jim. I finally gave in and signed up using my work computer--my boss keeps things running well!

I'm glad it worked out this way--I have faces to go with the names and yes--I did have fun!!!! But I have to say--I did notice I never saw/heard you play....

Otto--thanks again for the books--they really made my weekend! Up 'till they came out, I was sort of sitting there listening--which was good--but it was much more fun being a part of things!!! I'll be working up my own (in girl's keys :) ) so there will be even more fun in the future...I warned you--I'll be back...

Iffy--how are you??? Let us know-- What'd the Doc say? Praying for his wisdom and your quick recovery!

Cheryl :D

Cheryl, I hate to scare away the newbies. If you will agree to it, we can get together for a duet next time!

Thanks, g8r! It was great meeting you--honestly, I can't remember the last time I played 12 bar blues....

Only kidding!!!...it was fun--almost like being in a band again ;) I'm glad Karen asked me to tag along. I don't know who usually goes to which events, but hopefully we will meet again. It was inspiring to see/hear so many talented musicians. And the songwriting....what a hoot!

Glad everyone's home safe and (almost) sound...

You're on, Jim. As long as I have chords (and words), I'm ok!! We'll have to choose something from one of the books...

I'll have to learn how to do the quotes....this is too much fun--I could get into trouble spending time on here....

Nice. And great pics. Can't imagine anyone walking away from that thinking "...what could've been...".

No Capt. He intoduced himself as "Bubba". His real name was "Perry", and he is a volunteer fireman for the county. I don't know too much more about him, other than he and his girlfriend were sent as Angels, in our time of need. I pray that goodness follows him, where ever he goes.

Look to the far right of the member's name whose post you want to quote, and press the ""

The danger is spending the time reading and posting that you should be spending playing guitar  ;) :D

I just looked at all the pictures posted so far. Looks great. Somebody needs to go thru and name everybody in the pics. I recognize a lot of people, but there are a few I don't know.

Too bad you couldn't find a prettier setting for the gathering (no point in working on that, it would be impossible).....

Like this? After a couple years I learned to delete the part of the quote that I didn't want to quote.
If you can get in trouble from spending all your time at work and home on this site, buying way more Ovations than you need and traveling great distances to meet people in person that you only previously met on an internet chat site, then the OFC has accomplished its mission (even though Al's mission statement doesn't include these goals.)

Paul, I named just about everybody in the first couple sets of pics, I think. Look between the pictures.

Just a quick note:

Thanx for all the well wishes and prayers.

Thursday I get some internal ankle hardware. No external ankle bracelets fer me (not that there's anything wrong with that ;) ). I do wish I had had some of these new pain meds for the trip home!

I'm composing a long 'thanx' that I hope to get posted tomorrow. Until then, this is the future walkin' barometer signing out...

Maribeth and I had a super fantastic time this weekend…..

Many, many thanks to Keith for hosting this….You bring a new meaning to Southern hospitality by going above and beyond to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves.

Your Daddy is a hoot! I thoroughly enjoyed playing and singing a lot of good ole classic country music with him (we’ll work on that timin’ thing ;) )
We even did some firsts….like….Johnny Cash on banjo, Willie on banjo, even "Stairway to heaven" on banjo!! (which Trader Jim said was "Just plain wrong on so many levels”….. :p )

Thanks also to Dave and Jan Palmer and to ALL of your family and friends who were there….No one felt like a stranger !

Good to see all the SSJ regulars again!…..TJ, Gway, G8R, Beggin, Jas, CrimsonMike, & Nicky, Otto, Blue, MusicMike……

Got to meet some new OFC family member for the 1st time…..Capo Guy (loved your singing & pickin’) Richard (the Artist) from downunder (Super nice guy who didn’t sleep the whole weekend!)
Cheryl (Joisey goil #2) a lovely songbird (I see she finally joined the OFC!)
And IFFY…..From the minute we meet we started to have fun! Great guy with a great outlook on life…Even after he had broken his ankle, he never lost his sense of humor!
He still could laugh and joke while in extreme pain (right foot turned 90 degrees from where it should have been!) All the way down the mountain, at the hospital, and on the way back I never heard him complain….Johnny you’re one tough ole bird! (we discussed maybe he should change his screen name to "Slippy Iffy" :D )

It was good to see Beal again (great guitars and fine singin’) and Karen (Joisey goil #1) I enjoyed making music with you again…you have a wonderful voice (so does Cheryl…..must be a Joisey goil thang!)
And sorry about the dusty trip down the mountain….If it can’t do anything else, my ole truck can COAST! And to keep from heating up the brakes I just let ‘er go……I noticed you kept up pretty good in spite of the dust storm……… :D

It was nice also to meet some of the wives and youngins of a few members….Sandy, Vanessa, Amy, and all the others I can’t remember their names….

Great Friends – Great Music – Great Food = GREAT TIME
(and they even put up with my banjo…..Nuff said!)
