Hm.... it's be quite a while.
I'll remind him to give it a go this week.
Just to keep the rust off.

Sometimes you just gotta see it to catch the whole vibe. That's what I had to tell kimby-d when I brought home the tiki torches I bought at Orchard Supply on Sunday. The dude wearing the green vest at OSH told me his neighbor put some on her porch at her condo, and they didn't look nearly as bad as he thought they would. Uh, not exactly a ringing endorsement. But you see, these weren't just any tiki torches, but completely weather proof and ecologically sound landscape lighting ... a flickering amber LED powered by batteries which are charged every day by the sun. That's right, they even have solar tiki torches these days. And less than sixteen buck for a pair of them. Made out of colored formed plastic, they look like real woven bamboo up to about 5 feet away. That come on when the sun goes down, and flickers all night if they've got eight hours of direct sunlight. Instant ambience, you've gotta love that. Even in a condo. Like an island paradise, where romance, love, peace and harmony all go so well together. Those places you remember being for a few days during a special time. Or the ones you've always imagined, but have not yet lived. The ultimate in everything. Paradise.

Think of it as tiki torch therapy. Maybe I'll start a self-help sensation. I think people will go for it. Subliminally telling one's brain that you've got two feet inside of Paradise. That's saying a lot in these days and times when the world seems like anything but paradise. Go we all need to grab whatever bit of it we can and make the most of it.

So that's why I got some tiki torches. To go with the music. Because the scene isn't complete unless you've got some good slack key guitar floating on the breeze. You can't think about the islands without hearing that sound in your head. And so there's this great tune on the Vol 3 of Member's Night Out (A Day at the Beach) by Randy Dellinger, who goes by Lanaki here. His talents are obvious, even if he hasn't been around as much lately ... going to back to school after all those years to become a medical professional is a huge undertaking in itself. He's doing real well though and just like his guitar playing, his talents are obvious to those around him.

So flip on the tiki torches, sit back and join me today in a little summer slacking. Just enjoying our own paradise and a great tune. Now the cool part about this particular version is that it is not from the CD ... nope, it's the same song but played for a video camera. So we can see what he's doing. Like I said at the beginning, sometimes you just gotta see it to catch the whole vibe. That's the way it is with this one. The CD version is excellent ... but this one is every bit as good. Besides, you get to see a nice Ovation guitar ... literally see the island breezes ... and ... will you notice the OFC calendar on the wall? Oh, and make sure you stick around for the Wizard of Oz moment at the end.

Summer Country Slackin\' - Lanaki

See? Don't you feel better already? Summer will be over too soon. Sha-la-la-la-la let's live for today. Aloha.

Yep... Lanaki's recordings are a sure fire way to shake off the blues. Ya can't not relax when you hear it.

I wonder what the tuning for that is. It sounded so sweet.

He's done some other great stuff too...like: this one in the same vein.

(HUGE apologies, Bobbo -- not trying to step on the thread!)

Well, look at that. It's Friday the 13th. Anyone have a black cat cross their path today? Walk under a ladder? Break a mirror? No? Oh well, you can still live on the edge. Right here. With a GREAT Friday the 13th song.

This cat has produced hundreds of videos on YouTube with his Ovation and Adamas guitars. But I don't think he spends much time here. As it is, he has a ton of fans right here on the board because he plays and sings the songs people want to hear. And he does it real well.

Check it out:

Spooky - Larry Lud (podline66)

If you've got some time on your hands, his YouTube channel is chock full of songs played on some great Ovation guitars. Go listen to them. You can also watch how he plays them and go practice them for yourself.

Enjoy.

Again bobbo, you've 'nailed' the occasion!

Larry has been on my YT subscribe list since the first time I ran across his vids. What an entertaining talent!

For those that haven't seen 'podline66' before, this is your lucky day...

Yeah... Mr. Lud is very, very good.
Something for everyone here to shoot for.
Guitars that just sit in a case or on a trophy wall are a waste of craftsmanship.

Maybe bobbo is hoping that someone enjoying this thread will be inspired to record something and send it in.

I DREAM’D in a dream, I saw a city invincible to the attacks of the whole of the rest of the earth;

I dream’d that was the new City of Friends;

Nothing was greater there than the quality of robust love—it led the rest;

It was seen every hour in the actions of the men of that city,

And in all their looks and words.

--Walt Whitman (1819–1892). Leaves of Grass.
Thanks for calling Rock-O-Rama. What's on your mind?

"I heard there's a new movie coming out about Camden, New Jersey. Do you know anything about it?"

Wow, as a matter of fact, I do. I first heard about it last year, when I was ordering my OFC II guitar ... Al was telling me about how the film was coming into being. It's about his city. And how no matter what, despite all odds and challenges thrown at it, Camden survives. It is the City Invincible ... because it is a city of people who believe in something. And people who believe can triumph over anything. And there you have Camden ... and while it might not always look like it from the outside, it's what is inside that really matters and this movie tells that story. Check it out at http://www.cityinvincible.com/. It'll be coming out soon and you don't want to miss it.

But you loyal listeners know I would never point you at something unless there was a reason. And I have a hell of a reason for you. You see when Al and I were first talking about this movie last year when ordering my guitar, he had just come in from working with the producer of the movie ... who to use one of Al's songs as the soundtrack for the movie. It seemed like a longshot at the time, but Al was hoping it would work out. Well, hopes and dreams do come true. And sometime things that are bigger than us. It's what the movie is all about. It's what the song is all about. It's what happens every day. It's what happened here.

City Invincible - Alex Pepiak

And one more thing. Support Camden, support Barrington Coffee House, and support Ovation. The same place where this live performance was filmed is the same venue that is hosting the Ovation Roadshow on September 13th. Show up if you can ... you can't go wrong.

Here's to hopes and dreams. And the strength to hold on through the changes and challenge ... to come out better on the other side.

Well done Al.
You can be real proud of that one.

I thought it was rather Dylan-ish.
