This was my first,(not the last), jam. What a collection of Ovations and Adamas all under one roof. Great people and some pretty good players.

From the moment I got there I felt among friends.

I'll bet the porta johns were fun in the morning.

Was very sorry to miss this. Glad everyone had a safe trip. I'm really looking forward to meeting you all face to face someday. Hopefully on the next factory tour to be sure.

YSBT!

Just got back, and boy what a great time! I was honored to be among such a fine collection of musicians, & I hope they didn't get too insulted at my attempts at hacking on the guitar.

First off, HUGE thanks to Kieth for hosting this - sir, you are a true Southern gentleman and your hospitality is outstanding. And, you're a damn fine guitarist and singer. The food was outstanding, the company was great, and the drink, well what can I say? ;) And your dad is a hoot (Go Auburn!). I really enjoyed talking to him and listening to him playing and singing. I see where you get your talent.

Beggin & you're lovely wife and daughter, many many thanks again for the place to crash Friday night & special thanks for your friendship.

Richard, it was wonderful to meet you & have the chance to jam into the wee hours of Saturday morning and even more at Keith's. Enjoy that 08C, it's beauty.

TR, Jas, Music, Blues, TJ, Gway, CL & Nick, it was great seeing you guys again. Y'all are like family. Speaking of family, Music & CL you're both blessed with such beautiful families.

Capo Guy & Iffy - what a great time. Good to finally meet you.

A special shout to the Jersey girls. Great voices, wonderful guitar skills, especially your original tunes, and it was a lot of fun jamming blues with you.

Beal, great to see you again, I'll make it up to the Mermaid soon for songwriter's night.

One unfortunate thing to report - Iffy slipped in the middle of the night going to his car and dislocated and broke his ankle. TR & Richard rushed him to the hospital where they set it and put it in a cast, but it will probably need surgery. Everyone please send your prayers and best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

YSBT!

What a GREAT weekend!!!

Many, many thanks to Keith and his family for an amazing event that will be hard to top. From great food to a fantastic location, unending hospitality, and a desire to make sure that everyone had all that they needed, they went WAY beyond what could have been imagined. Keith's family and friends are incredible, funny, and have enough musical talent to make the rest of us extremely jealous. (Can't hide the 'ol man anymore Keith, now I know where you got it from.)

I will post more later, but I am currently very sleep deprived.

Great to see everyone..y'all shoulda been there!

A great weekend. Richard was a hit. Quite literally, to know him is to love him. I dropped him off at his hotel in one piece, although he has had almost no sleep for days.

What was great is that even though we've had six southern jams now, I met many new great people at this one, and more family members. That's always worth the trip.

Thanks for the lodging, Jim and Keith, and the fun & food.

Safe travel wishes go out to Jim, Gary and Iffy, who still have a ways to go before they get home. Take care of our injured pal.

TRBoy, you are an awesome guy.

I want to add a huge heartfelt thank you to Crimson Lake and his family (in particular his daughter and wife for keeping watch on our daughter while we were busy with our son...Baby Music got very cold and was pretty miserable and kept the wife busy all day on Saturday...CL's family kept "Princess 3 going on 23" entertained most of the morning and early afternoon...Thanks so much folks...Mike you and I are blessed (as g8r so nicely stated)...Iffy, I am so sorry to hear that you got hurt...I hope that you are on the mend: I would not have gotten that tent up without your help on Friday night... I also want to apologise to all for the hasty exit w/o a lot of goodbyes...and for all the concerns from so many for baby Music (who seems to have come through this none the worse for wear)...you are all family and I an so happy to know you all...we'll do it again soon! (I want to know how cold it got on Saturday night for the tent crowd...lol)

And for those who missed it: YSBT!

Sounds like you all had a blast, and you're right ISBT. I would have enjoyed meeting y'all.

I tried to call TJ last night, but I think I may have dialed his home number on accident. Oh well.

Oh yeah... Richard ate all of his grits. But I don't think he's eager to have them again. I find that hard to understand. I ate a bunch of his tim tams, and I'd gladly make that sacrifice again.

Sorry to hear about the ankle Iffy.

Look on the bright side. At least it wasn't a broken left wrist.

Take care.

Mike - it was a pleasure! The kids were extremely well behaved. Katie had a lot of fun - and it kept her occupied as well... she's not so into this "guitar" thing. To answer your question - it got COLD! Below freezing cold... ice on the tent cold... Amy beating me up for making her camp outside COLD! It didn't seem to bother Beggin or Serge though (or Amy for that matter). They had quite the snore fest (it wasn't ME!).

Thanks to Keith and his extended family for the whole weekend - everything was excellent! They worked their butts off to keep the throng warm and fed.

I'll try to keep this brief (too late?). It was GREAT seeing everyone that I've met before again - all you southern boys and girls and the Jersey girl. I did miss those that couldn't make it - Tim and family and Serge's family. It was great finally meeting Bill - and hearing a few of his originals - very funny! Cheryl was this years Otto - great voice! Chris - I loved your songs as well - good luck with the recording/producing/getting out a CD! Richard - thanks for the TimTams! Now I know what all the hubbub is about. I loved the "political" tune that you sang (sorry Al!). It was hilarious even if I didn't get all of the references. Karen - sorry we missed the Sunday morning activities - it was a long night and everyone wanted to hit the road.

Johnny - I hope you made it home OK and everything turns out well with your ankle. It was an unfair ending to a great weekend. I'm glad to have finally met you. Thanks for all you did to make this weekend happen.

Oh yeah - we ran across a black bear on the way down the mountain yesterday morning! It's a good thing the snoring was so loud... that would've made for an even more exciting night of camping.

I figured Amy would come in handy somehow. If Beggin is ever unavailable, we can always use her as bear repellent.

What an awesome, entertaining and rewarding gathering! 'Overwhelmed' is my one word descriptive for my first (and certainly, not last) OFC family reunion experience...

I never met so many lovely and loving 'strangers' that welcomed me as family. I've heard that heaven is much like that.

Music was EVERYWHERE; in the kitchen, living room, around the the camp fire, the amped 'Arctic Express' front porch and even a tailgate or two.

When you combine the OFC personalities and their music with the glorious multi-hued mountain setting you have the recipe for some wonderful lifetime memories!

I have many fond 'thank yous' that I'll have to address later. Gotta take a nap before my orthopedic surgeon appointment.

But I can't sign off without huge hugs for Keith's generosity and TJ's cherished companionship!

I know the trader took some good shots. For some reason Iffy made him do all the driving on the way home, so he's been busy/tired. Anybody else?

Well, after a long nights sleep, my head has cleared out a little, so I will expand on my account of the weekend.

First off, I barely picked up a guitar (for those that know me, y'all can shut up now). But the issue is this, to me, these events have become as much a Family reunion as a jam session. Don't get me wrong (I love all the musical talent and great gits), but the closeness of the group, those that I have met before and every new member that I meet are all incredible, interesting and funloving people. Having such a short time to spend with them, I tend to get carried away on the social side  of things and forget the reason that we get together in the first place (what I missed in the music, I gained in friendship and I don't regret a minute of it). On a musical side note, I did get to play a little with Nicky (CL's son) and Keith's daughter on the front porch. They both are very talented and love playing. Thank y'all for letting me sit in for a few minutes!

It was great to finally get to meet Capo Guy, 2iffy, Karen and Cheryl, Richard (he sure talks funny, but has a purdy mouth), the rest of CL's and Music's families, and Keith and his fantastic family and friends. Everyone's warm welcomes and our conversations will not be forgotten.

Seeing all the rest of the Southern Jam gang again is always special. We have grown to be quite a group of close friends. Funny to think, that just a little more than a year ago we got together for the first time, a goofy bunch of
guitar, internet geeks, bound by Charlie and Bill's great creations. It took all of five minutes for friendships to form, and the fun to begin. Every get together since then (four, five if we count Amelia) has added more members and friends. Where will be in 10 years at this rate?!

Keith, I will say it again, your hospitality was overwhelming, your family and friends are very special people and helped make the Smokey Jam incredible. Thanks for the special ride up into the hills. It will be hard for anyone to top this event.

For those that couldn't make it (and that's all of you) we hope to see you at the next one.

Finally, Sandy (SWMBO) had a great time, her first question after we left was "when is the next jam?". She took the words right out of my mouth, and for those that have met me, you know that is a hard thing to do.

'nuf said!

Well, I pulled in my place at around 6:30 this morning after a somewhat problematic trip. Iffy had to be in Bradenton to the hospital for evaluation at around midnight as his daughter had set it up. Somewhere in SC, the truck started to slow with no power so we pulled it off on an exit and into a shell convenience store. At that time, it was running on about 4 cylinders and we noticed the voltmeter was on 9 volts, so it was either a battery or an alternator, still 500+ miles from home. In my haste to back the truck into a spot to make it easier to jump it, I forgot about the U Haul in the back and promptly jack knifed it right into the side of Johnny's Tahoe, denting the rear quarter.

After a long session of testing with what we had, we found the alternator was bad. Now this is the truth: Gway found this guy named Bubba (ok laugh), that had his girlfriend call around to parts houses, found an AutoZone that was open till 9pm (on Sunday?), pulled the alternator off the truck himself, took Gway in his car 30 miles away to pick up a new one while I tended to Iffy, came back and installed it on the truck, and all was well. I am chalking it up, quite seriously, as Divine Intervention. I will remember this trip forever!

I'll try to get some pics resized as they are quite large, and get them posted.
