A secondary site with the options that one has is great! Perfect end result, did not know this was an option, sorry if I added to any Drama, I was going by your first couple of posts Miles and that this New Site would become the "New Site" if things worked out. Hope this email is not too Dramatic.

I'm checking the "new" site maybe twice a day for any comments left on my page or to pull a picture I want to post here. Other than that, it's business as usual.
Once I figure it out I will be taking advantage of the mp3 & video features.

Well, it's all perception. Perfect solution my ass. Nothing has changed except we're pushing the "non Old Farts" somewhere else to play. There are no links from here to there. Only one direction - jeez, if someone by chance finds the other site and then wants to ask a question, they get punted over to the ubb that is so last century. This will cement the opinion of many that Ovation players are out of touch with the real world. And we're doing a real good job of making sure we do not appeal to the next generation of Ovation players. Just my opinion.

whoa! hold on, bobbo. miles is workin' on the links according to his announcement on the other site. it's but a matter of time. there's never been a "perfect solution" for anything on this planet, but i suspect most of us earthling-type ovation players will be quite satisfied with the results of this platform. many mahalos, miles.

Hey Bobbo,

Please take this in the light-hearted manner in which it is intended..

I plan on migrating to a new Forum as well. I need a Perl Script to extract the current forums into an MS Access Database. That should take about 80-120 hours of coding. I can handle the next step of porting the data into the new database, so I'll expect you will have the Perl Script ready by next Friday ??? Don't forget to include the "member numbers" when you create the users table.

Thanks

Hey Miles...Are you trying to hack into NORAD to play war games?
And can you get them to send me an SSI check while you are into the Government's computer?

Gotta agree to an extent with Bobbo.
I though the forums on the "social" site were picking up steam and doing quite well. I had gotten to where I could navigate through them almost as easily as this site.....plus having everything on one site made life easier for me.

I think the trial period was cut short. Given another 30 days, I think this site would have been basically carted off for dead.

Course I would have said it more diplomatically. :p

In most points, I have to say that Stephent28 and Bobbo are genuinely correct: however, I also take into account what Miles said about the amount of time it takes to convert the info from here to there (and no one can say Miles that you are not doing a fantastic job...and many thanks are due)...The point of what Bobbo said about the need for a new up to date site may be painful to some, but it is exactly on point! I'm probably one of the oldest here, but if I can do it anyone can...as I said in the post (to Brad's message) about change: unfortunately it's true...the older one gets the more insecure one gets about leaving that comfort zone...There is an old saying but a very correct one that says: "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten".
My $.02: YMMV

"If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten".

And the corollary..

Insanity = "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result."

Personally, I feel just a little like I'm being talked down to.

It's my understanding when the work is all done we will have all the new bells and whistles with a discussion forum that looks the same as the old one. So we loose the ability to have our own personal little icon on every post but we retain a format that is easier to browse and keep track of conversations. What's wrong with that?

It's my guess that a few members will use the mp3 and video features and a lesser number will do the blog and group thing. That number will grow with time but for now I think that the majority of members won't be interested. That's okay. It does not make them stubborn old farts with some type of phobia or personality disorder, they're just not interested.

I can see Mikes point if the changes that are trying to be involked involves your career or health, but this is just (again IMHO), a matter of personal interests.

I'm just happy to have a sandbox to play in. As long as we have somewhere to get info, we can still plan our jams.

I heard a Donovan song today at lunch and thought "That's one of Otto's songs!" There's the magic of the OFC.

There is a chasm between what is leaves one pair of lips and what is heard by a thousand ears. Each will hear a different song according to their own perceptions.

I do my best to never try and guess what anyone meant. I barely know what I understand....

I've been waiting to make my 500 post something "Important or Special" so, I guess this is as good as anything. 1st, Miles, thanks for all the time, effort and dealing with the constant "critisism" about the 2 sites you have been dealing with. It is obvious you will NEVER please everyone. I've been checking this "Topic" off and on for the last few days and if I have missed something, I appoligies. It just seems that NO ONE is going to be completely happy about 1 site, the new site, both sites. My suggestion is to just do what you (Miles) feels is the best for this group and move on. You are not going to please everyone. Hell, I am not completely satisfied with the new site, Why, because I don't have the knowledge it takes to navigate and use all the great features it offers. Not anyones problem but mine. I there for choose to do the best I can and enjoy what I can figure out and what is there. 2nd, We are all "friends" here on this site. I've sensed some "friendly" tension going on. We are all allowed to have our opinions. Lets keep it positive. If I am miss reading some of the comments, Sorry. I just felt I finally needed to put my 2 cents in.
Miles, thanks AGAIN. :)
Just MHO!
