I vote for "Scarborough Fair"
Dude...your like...harshing my buzz, man!

Great song, but how about something more up-beat?

That is an interesting story about the meanings of that song. I was in my early teens when that song came out and to be honest, I thought the words were "Scarborough Aff air". I guess at that age, everything is about sex. Come to think about it, I was first exposed to this song when my older cousin and I told our parents that we were going to the movies to see "The Jungle Book" but really went to see "The Graduate".

Seriously. Try this. I'm sure it will sound familiar to you.

Scarborough Fair? Classic song, but probably not what I want in my head on an 8 hour plane flight home...

Thanks, you waskel-y wabbitt. There is an excellent rare, live version of this tune on (of all places) the Ringo Starr and his All-star band DVD. It features Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson,Joe Walsh, Billy Preston. Clarence Clemons,Nils Lofgren, Doc John - the night tripper, and, unfortunately, Ringo. I was fortunate enough to see this line-up back in '89
It's a gem.
I think we might entertain a few more ideas, though. I know Cliff has quite a catalog of tunes he's performed over the years. Where is that slothead?

I know Scarborough Fair note for note, but I can't be there to teach it to you. Took me a ton of time back in college, which seems to be the last time I had time. I never liked playing "arrangements" so I've worn out a few rewind buttons trying to figure out each note. I impressed myself recently when I took it back up after a 20 year layoff and could still remember how to play it. If you only know a couple of songs, I guess you should remember them.

If I can make it there I would suggest a bluegrass song made famous by Lester Flatt after he split with Earl Scruggs called "Backing Down to Birmingham".

It's about a chronic liar who talks his way into a truck driving job driving an eighteen wheeler to Birmingham and can only find reverse.

It has lines like

There must be some way to turn this rig around

I make it fine through the country, but the cities get me down

I know everyone knows it and I'd look forward to relearning it as my record album that has it on it is jammed in a record cabinet that I can't get open, and I don't have a turntable anyhow.

It is the kind of song you can go home with it running through your mind, and be happy that you aren't backing your way home with an eighteen wheeler stuck in reverse.

Bailey,
You're my Hero. When I grow up I want to be just like you. I don't remember the Scruggs song but it does sound like some great lyrics.

Copy from another post... Maybe some one will see this in time...

Need Ride after Tour to Norwalk, Conn

After the big OFC shindig at the factory Friday
after dinner friday night
after the Jam session

I'm trying to catch a ride to or near Norwalk, Conn:

I am trying to make plans with my brother who lives in Norwalk, Conn. and save him the round trip late Friday night or early Saturday morning to pick me up...

Anybody staying late after dinner and going to the jam session. I would like to bum a ride and get near Norwalk, Conn.

I think it's an 1-> 1-1/2 hour drive from the hotel to my brothers house...

Isn't the OFC gathering, dinner, and jam on Friday, not Saturday?

I really don't think you would want to bring a three month old in a stroller to the tour. I belive due to insurance/liability resons they wer not allowing anyone under the age of 16. Not sure if ther ewould be any kind of exceptions. You'd better ask someone like AL.

IMPORTANT, THERE ARE ONLY 7 ROOMS LEFT IN THE OFC BLOCK OF ROOMS AT THE HOTEL.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MADE YOUR ROOM RESERVATION!!!! Info in the ANNOUNCEMENTS forum.

Only 11 room reservations have been made where people signified they are with the Ovation Fan Club, but in the list of people who signed up for the tour, at least 14 of the 35 families registered are significantly from out of the area, and about 1/2 of the rest are also not in driving distance.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MADE YOUR ROOM RESERVATION!!!! Info in the ANNOUNCEMENTS forum. Do NOT wait until the last minute.

I made my room reservation through my corporate account not the OFC block. One of my business associates will also be staying at the hotel Wednesday and Thursday so I didn't want to grab the OFC rooms, plus we got the same rate.

I have consulted my copy of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and have found that the state of Connecticut is scheduled to be reoriented on precisely the day of the congruence of CWKII and Alpep's minor disagreement about whether the Atlantic is truly green in Florida or shitty green in New Jersey. The Planetary overseerers are convening in Virginia Beach and taking color samples to determine if the planet can survive after an Ovation factory tour without the elder statesman, Bailey.
