As I indicated on another thread, I may bring my 1537 over on the 5th and leave it with Waskel or someone else for a couple weeks. I should be able to take it back on the 19th after we unload all my daughter's stuff for college.

The 19th is written into my daytimer. A new savings jar is labelled.

Hmm, might be time for new strings too.

I’ve been in contact with JefferyD and he brings up some good ideas. Focusing on making the Gathering a memorable event he thought of such things as:

things folks should bring, like lawn or camp chairs, coolers, that sort of thing

camera's and video cams to record the moments

amps and such

Additionally, I was thinking about recording equipment.

Here is kind of the layout in brief. I’m betting on great weather, so, much of our time will be out in the backyard. There is a deck that can hold 5 to 7 comfortably. A small patch of lawn can accommodate another half dozen or so. The house will be “open house”. I have two amps, a great wife who is looking forward to being hostess, and a big dog that has pack instinct (barks like heck when you first arrive, but is a pushover). I plan on being barbeque chef.

Anyway, pooling our thoughts we should be able to cover all the bases. Ideas encouraged. Perhaps, it is a bit early for such planning, but maybe not?

I'll be happy to pitch in however I can with chairs, a cooler, and some consumables.

I can also bring my digital camera and MiniDV video camera, but Waskel is not allowed to touch any of it.. he needs to sit back and enjoy after being A/V-man for the last 2 factory tours.

I'll bring both of my guitars, but I don't have an amp or recording equipment unless you count my Line6 TonePort, PowerBook, and GarageBand.

Perhaps we should take the details offline. If people want to PM me their email addresses, I can set up a mailing list so we can hash out the logistics.

I'll offer a suggestion that will help me, but if it doesn't work for others, throw it out: an early afternoon barbeque. Then people could hang around and jam until late. I could probably get everyone planning my Mom's birthday party to do it as a late dinner, so I could go from one to the other. If more people would rather do this later in the evening, let me know and I'll try to steer Mom's birthday party toward the noon hour, so I could show up at gh1's late and try to meet all you guys before you left. The worst for me is if both events start at the same time on Saturday. Mom's 80th bday party is a surprise, so there will be lots of logistics to work out.

Well, i was thinking of opening the house around 1PM and closing it whenever everybody left -- so that opens the whole day up. I figured i'd have a staged feeding -- that is; fix some food, when that ran out, put a little more on the grill -- that kind of thing.

That way people could come and go as their schedule's dictated. Anyway, i guess my point is that there is no real time limits from my perspective -- open house folks :)

I have a boss BR-8 digital recorder that I use mainly for work that I can bring to record...anything of interest.

Will bring the Balladeer (ho hum you say?) and the bastardized T-head.

Yeah I was kinda thinking something along the lines of noon-ish or 1pm-ish until gh1's SWMBO kicks out the last guest, but he's gotta make the final call as to when we're welcome to show up.

Gh1, thanks so much to you and your wife for offering to let us storm your castle for the day!

Works for me!

Sounds like a lot of fun! I'll bring my Adamas. And something else if requested.

Gh1, my thanks as well for your hospitality!

I will bring my Barbetta 23C combo amp and my 1537 and W597.

I would bring my Tascam 2488 Deck, but I just don't have the hang of how to use it, so fear the project would be forever lost.

I would probably be one of the first to leave since I need to be back for church the next morning, but hey....even a few hours would be fun.

Greg, you sure your neighbors aren't gonna mind? Jeff strikes me as the kind to cause trouble.

No worry's. I used to be a bouncer in Yellowknife.

If Jeff or anyone else wants to fly in to Hillsboro, my sister and parents live within a few blocks of the airport, so I could easily come pick you up. Gh1's place may be a long way from there, but Hillsboro seems to be where all the small planes land that are heading for Portland.

I can also help with transportation to/from Hillsboro airport. I think there's also an airstrip in Troutdale at the far eastern edge of town.

Want to move it to the Elks Lodge at Hillsboro? That's where Mom's party will be, Saturday evening. I bet I could get the whole lodge for nothing or next to it and you guys could provide the music. It used to have a nice golf course attached, Orenco Woods, but the Elks sold the property to a developer.
I'm serious. It would be a cool place. Has a dance floor and maybe a PA system. There are probably enough real musicians in this group (I'm not counting myself) that you guys could put on a good show and the rest of the time we could mess around with guitars and get drunk.

Hillsboro is less than a half an hour away depending on traffic, which should be light on Saturday. You could make it in 15 to 20 minutes (10 in your Porsche :) ) Troutdale is about the same distance. It's all highway both directions, and i live roughly equidistant from I84 and I5.

Anyway, don't worry about bothering the neighbors, even you rowdy types. However, i'm cool with any venue -- most important to me is that we get together.

Now, if this gets rolling, my wife will kill me if i pull the rug out from under her planning. She loves entertaining, well, until she runs out of gas. Then we just send her to bed and, we're good to go 'til dawn.

Cheers!

Oh, and we need to take the question mark of the title of this thread.

edit: one more thing -- i'm not a musician by any means. I can butcher a fair number of solo pieces, but no way can i play with someone else! I have troubles keeping time with myself let alone somebody else. I play everything rubrato ;) I'm hanging with Mark, getting drunk and messing with guitars!

Wife just told me we'll probably just have a small room at the Elks. I'd be surprised if I can make it from Hillsboro to anywhere in 15 or 20 minutes, but I'll get there and back in time for Mom's party.
Since I have family scattered around Portland, I might just try to spend Friday night closest to where I need to be first on Saturday.
Now we need Alaskan Fly Guy to come down and bring his Ute, so I can take it home.

Thanks Mark and others for the offer of getting me at the airport. As it gets closer I will consider that, but would hate to interupt things in the middle of the bash to take me back to the airport, so will probably drive.

There are several alternatives, but none really convenient to Gh1's place (I can even fly into PDX which is probably the closest).

Hey....you guys want me to bring my Carvin DC400? Might convert you from Fenders and Gibsons. Having a bit of trouble with the Piezo "acoustic" pickup, but other than that she is sweet.

By the way....if MWoody is coming (you are coming right?) maybe he can bring his superglue and do a clinic on 1537 crack repair. With three of them there, it would be a worthy project.

Oh...and 3 1537's playing at the same time, may disrupt the earths rotation setting all things back to perfect harmony. Perhaps the Garden of Eden will bloom once again in Portland..... welll...no, that won't happen.

The more the merrier. Can't have too many guitars, right? If the weather isn't too hot, I'll try to bring a few. Will also bring at least a USB interface to demo how easy it is to record yourself into a PC. Simple recording for we 'hobbyist' players.

Now that would be SWEET!! I just started looking into recording, and, to say the least, it is massivily overwhelming!

Also, as an announcement of sorts - i will be out of town for the next week starting tomorrow. So if you folks PM me or try to get ahold of me some other way, be assured i'm not blowing you off. Boise Mark has my contact info and he has my permission to give it out to those who are planning to attend.

I'm taking my annual walkabout in the deserts of SE Oregon. Just me, the buzzards, horned lizards, and open sky -- especially at night. Living in the city you forget what stars really look like.

I'll check in before i leave -- but, i'll be back!

I could probably squeeze in my 1537 and if Tim brings his 1547 we will really upset the balance. I'd also like to see Tim's Book Elite and compare it with my 87 Collector's. Too many guitars, too little room. Unfortunately, the Pilot holds lots less than the Odyssey.
