Into The Night - Benny Mardones

Attached is a version (mp3) that I just recently built mixing an interview with Benny Mardones about the origin and tender subject matter of this song. Give it a listen, I think you'll like it.

Another interesting factoid on this song is that it broke onto the top 20 charts twice.. nine years apart!
(1980 & 1989)

*EDIT*
Oh well.. I tried to upload it but the file was larger than the size limit allowed.. so...

As the story goes... the song's origin didn't stem at all from an old guy's Lolita love affair as most people think it is. No, the girl in the song lived in Mardones' Manhattan apartment building along with her parents and two young siblings. Mardones was friends with the family. One day the father hauled off and ran away with some young chick he worked with. Left the family broke and destitute. The interview was about how Mardones took them under his caring wing until they could recover, especially the young daughter who was the most devastated by the breakup. Even though the label's marketing ploys and various publicity spins took it a whole other direction, Mardones wanted the public to know the true origin.. and now you know it.
