Martin Introduces Dave Matthews Signature Model

August 24, 1999 -- Dave Matthews has been a dedicated fan of Martin guitars for years. His more recent acoustic tour with guitarist Tim Reynolds incorporated the use of several Martin instruments, in particular Dave's Vintage Series Martin Dreadnought and Tim's special effects enhanced D-35.

In honor of Dave Matthews's significant contribution to acoustic music, the Martin Guitar Company is proud to introduce the DM3MD Dave Matthews Limited Edition Signature Model.

I remember someone posting a long while back that Matthews used an Ovation very early in his career . . .

His main guitars these days are supposedly Taylors. Check out this link for a listing of what he does and has played ...

Florian Opahle.
(some of our German brethren may know of this 22-yr-old guitar whiz-kid)

Picked a copy of a new live CD "Ian Anderson plays Orchestral Jethro Tull".
Title pretty much describes it:
Anderson/small band (w/his son on drums), and a Philharmonic Orchestra.

On the front cover of the CD, I noticed a DarkBlueBurst roundhole Ovation 6-string . . .
Young Master Opahle's website lists his equipment which includes two Ovation Celebrities.

He's currently touring with the Greg Lake Band.

I'm astonished that no-one's mentioned my particular hero...FRANK ZAPPA

He did some amazing guitarwork with his Ovation in the 72-76 era

Listen to 'Music for Electric Guitar and Low Budget Orchestra' from Studio Tan

or 'Stinkfoot' from Apostrophe
or "Grand Wazoo'....astonishing stuff

He got that sound by running the bridge saddle pickup of the Ovation into one of the stereo channels (clean) He then ran a magnetic soundhole pickup through a Mutron envelope filter
through a valve amp and into the other stereo channel

I'll see if I can find a pic

Hiz, click on the link in Brad's post and post a flag on the map, so we know where Converse is.

This is a fun thing, and I, being old and retired, have more time to search out the more or less likely Ovation players, particularly in country.

Janie Fricke has a beautiful custom made Ovation that was stolen and recovered because her initials were on the fret board. She told the story on a George Jones TV show a few years ago, on which she played the guitar.

I will now cheat and name two, I have a videotape of ROGER MILLER playing an Ovation.

I bid on, but did not win, Roger Miller's Deacon 12 that was on eBay about two years ago. The case had a Midnight Special backstage sticker still on it.

Wow!

I just disappeared for four days, and am quite overwhelmed by the amount of responses from this thread. This is just way so awesome!! :)

I'm glad to know that many artists, apart from the ones posted in Ovation's own website, play them. Artists I know or heard of, and from artists I never heard of. Either way, I'm glad to know and this thread just made me appreciate O's more and more. :)

p.s.
-- I have to kick myself for completely forgetting about Jim Croce who happens to be my biggest influence for taking guitar in the first place
