Well my 40th Adamas is great. It's been sitting by my chair for sometime. I keep meaning to put a pickup in it so I can play it out. I did use it for a picture on the new cd. Being a mid bowl it has a real good cut, better than the 08cseries.

Beal, what pickup system are you considering?

Never under estimate the value of a new set of strings ...

I received one of the anniversary guitars and was almost in tears. What a complete DUD. Beautiful YES, but sounded like an absolute wet noodle. I looked inside to make sure that Darren's sweatshirt didn't get stuffed in there by mistake. The tone was truly awful - no sustain, no ring, no nothing. Sounded about like a Les Paul unplugged. All I could think was how freaking stupid of me to throw away thousands of dollars on a hope and a dream. Lesson learned ... time to move on and start buying with my head and not with my heart.

I got to thinking that maybe something was fugged up in the saddle. Maybe they ran out of shims and used chewing gum. So I un-strung it and threw the still brand new strings in the trash. Saddle looked fine, so I just thought well that's that and I guess all I can do is put it on ebay at a fire sale price since it would sicken me to keep it in the house as a constant reminder of how stupid I was. So I string it up with new EJ-16s.

WOW. WAIT A MINUTE ... THIS SOUNDS FANTASTIC !!! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is going on here ??? Immediately in love with the sound, but how could this be. I dug the strings out of the trash and installed them on another guitar - completely and utterly DEAD AS A DOOR NAIL. Make no mistake, these strings were BRAND NEW. Nothing the factory did wrong or anything like that. I guess it's like you buy a dozen eggs and one time you get a rotten one in the box. Problem solved and let the love fest begin !!!

Or have they changed to a different brand of strings?

the strings might be brand new but if handled too much with dirty fingers they can go dead. Shipping isn't that friendly to strings either

Never under estimate the value of a new set of strings ...

Hmmm...sounds interesting...

I received one of the anniversary guitars and was almost in tears.

???
What a complete DUD.

...excuse me???!!!...

Beautiful YES, but sounded like an absolute wet noodle.

"wet noodels"???? No way! C'mon Standingovation, you can't be serious!

I looked inside to make sure that Darren's sweatshirt didn't get stuffed in there by mistake.

Sigh of relief... LOL, that's funny...

The tone was truly awful - no sustain, no ring, no nothing.

Oh...wait a minute... is he serious???...

Sounded about like a Les Paul unplugged.

...heart beginning to sink...

All I could think was how freaking stupid of me to throw away thousands of dollars on a hope and a dream. Lesson learned ... time to move on and start buying with my head and not with my heart.

...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I got to thinking that maybe something was fugged up in the saddle. Maybe they ran out of shims and used chewing gum.

LOL with a heavy heart...

So I un-strung it and threw the still brand new strings in the trash. Saddle looked fine, so I just thought well that's that and I guess all I can do is put it on ebay at a fire sale price since it would sicken me to keep it in the house as a constant reminder of how stupid I was.

Oh, man...this can't be true...

So I string it up with new EJ-16s.

Yeah, like what good would that do?...

WOW. WAIT A MINUTE ... THIS SOUNDS FANTASTIC!!!

Oh I KNEW IT!

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is going on here ???

Oh, YES!

Immediately in love with the sound, but how could this be.

That's the question the fans are asking...

I dug the strings out of the trash and installed them on another guitar - completely and utterly DEAD AS A DOOR NAIL. Make no mistake, these strings were BRAND NEW. Nothing the factory did wrong or anything like that.

ABSOLUTION!

I guess it's like you buy a dozen eggs and one time you get a rotten one in the box. Problem solved and let the love fest begin !!!

Oh man, the things an O Lover's heart goes through... just another day at the OFC! Congratulations on a great guitar purchase Standingovation!

Hello, Everyone,
Beal is so right about how new strings get dirty, and then die a quick death. One of my many duties, when I worked in a music store in the mid '80's, besides teaching guitar, was re-stringing, and setting up some of the new guitars the various companies shipped in every day. String Crud City. Yuck. The guy who owned the music store NEVER wiped the strings off after demonstrating a guitar, because he said," The dirtier the string, the dirtier the sound!" But then, he played heavy metal, so I guess it worked for him? Yours truly also found out the hard way, 3 weeks ago, when the, "new", batteries in my electric scooter suddenly went DEAD, while I was out riding it. YIKES! HELP! Thank God I made it home. About 10 days ago, when the service tech finally showed up, he said, "Those batteries were put in new, last September, 2015. They were supposed to last 5 years. They are completly dead. You need 2 new battteries. It looks like YOU GOT SOME DUDS! It happens every so often with these kinds of batteries, but not very. I'll write it up as an emergency, and maybe get you a loaner? You don't have to pay for anything. Sign here." I signed. The new batteries should be here next week. Watch out for DUDS, people. Apparently, they show up everywhere, in everything, when you least expect it. Just sayin'.

I like Elixirs. They don't go dead, THEY GO CRASHY! About the time I start thinking that this guitar (fill in the blank on any of my guitars) doesn't have good tone and just sounds kinda crashy (tinny, too bright, no warmth), I look at when I put those strings on and invariably, it was several months ago. New strings and the guitar sounds great again. Ovations are hugely sensitive to strings.....

I like Elixirs Lights for certain guitars, Adamas 1818 for my Vintage Ovations, and the Thomastik-Infeld Acoustic Guitar Plectrum Bronze Flat Wound/Bronze Round Wound Light, .011 - .050, AC111 for any of the mid or shallow ones. (Thank you Detlef Michel for turning me onto these!) I would like to try these on Bear though too, he is a Mid Bowl.

elginacres,

I believe Keven received a prototype. The number ones are in the 'Ovation Archives'. They should be on display at the summer NAMM.
