Ken, thanks for the offer, and we might just take you up on that (even though getting lost is half the fun)!

You guys go ride your bikes and I'll babysit your guitars. We'll play "how many guitars fit in my daughter's Civic" while you're gone. If my daughter is still there when you get back, you'll know that she didn't fit with all the guitars.

Forget it Mark. I'm bringing the van and I'm bigger than you.

For those who want to make a complete holiday of the tour.....make it a two weekend trip!
................................................

Vancouver Island MusicFest is thrilled to launch the musical line up for their 14th anniversary festival (July 11-13 2008) with the announcement of Taj Mahal.

Vancouver Island MusicFest celebrates 14 years of bringing world class music to the Comox Valley this summer. "The heart of this event is the community's support and involvement. Literally thousands of community members have lent their hearts and hands to building this not-for-profit cultural undertaking over the past decade." says artistic director Doug Cox. "Its a privilege to be part of a community event whose roots run so deep we can be sure it will be here for another 14 years - bringing diverse roots and world music to our audience."

Stay tuned for more amazing announcements in print, and on the Vancouver Island MusicFest website at www.islandmusicfest.com. Limited early bird tickets are on sale until April the 1st for only $89 for an adult weekend pass. Call the Sid Williams Theatre at 1-866-898-8499 to order tickets.

This event is getting better all the time. Friends, guitars, motorcycles, concerts...

Wabbit, where abouts are you? I was thinking about riding out to Fort Clatsop before heading up to Mount Vernon. Every time I'm out there, my buddies prefer to ride around the backside of St. Helens instead of hitting the Fort. This time, they won't be in tow.

Colton, SE of Portland.

They've rebuilt the replica fort after the old one was destroyed by a fire in 2005. This one has smoke detectors...

How much of the Oregon coast have you seen?

It would be a beautiful ride, from PDX on hwy 30 to Astoria, then up the Washington coast, across the neck of the peninsula and up west of Seattle (maybe stop and slap Woody around) then take the Port Townsend ferry across the sound, then up to Anacortes and over to Mt Vernon.
Definitely more than a mornings ride, but hey, that's what vacation time is for.

I lead a week long bike tour along the Lewis and Clark route a few years ago through Montana and Idaho, but never made it to the coast. Is it reasonable to see the Fort (I know there's not all that much there) and then ride to Mount Vernon via your route in a day? I'm thinking Thursday, July 3rd if it is possible. I've been all over the roads on the Peninsula and over to Vancouver Island a few times, but I'm up for anything. PM me on the details.

The term "Iron Butt" comes to mind.

I suggest a full day for exploring the coast, spend the night at my home and then traverse to Mt. Vernon, et al.

John,

Kathie and I did that very trip in reverse as our last Goldwing ride. We went to my folk's house in Brewster, then did the North Cascade Highway (20) over to Mt. Vernon, Whidbey Island, Ferry to Port Townsend, then the coastal route before taking 84 home.

Wonderful memories.

I like the way you guys think :)

We have a number of routes available, and varied terrain. I have a whole day ride I do sometimes, south on Hwy9, then west over hwy2, north on Hwy97, then east on Hwy20 home. Chelan is about halfway and a good lunch stop.

If you don't want to do an all day, there's shorter trips through Darrington or up Mount Baker. A lot of possibilities...

That would be a great day ride, Ken, through some beautiful mountains. I don't think we want to be out that long, but I'll keep it in mind for future trips.

Wabbit, I can leave Denver Sunday about noon, stay with some friends in Boise Monday evening, then be in Portland Tueday evening. This would give us Wed and Thur to visit the Fort and head up the coast. How does that timing work for you?

To bad I won't be in Boise when you get here, but I hope to see you all in Mt. Vernon. Brad, there are way better roads through Idaho than the Interstate, especially for a motorcycle. If you know anyone that wants to ride the rest of the way from Boise to Mt. Vernon in a car, let me know. I still haven't made plans for the return route, although sleeping on a plane might be a better idea than driving all the way back on Sunday.

It sounds nice, Brad, but I'll have to get back to you on that when the time gets closer.
Hard to tell what will be happening in July. Let's see if I survive Amelia in March, a week at Disneyland with the family in April and our inventory season in May first...

...Mark, if my wife doesn't come, I'll bring an extra helmet. I can get you as far as PDX, anyway...

Getting to Portland is no problem. No offense, John, but I'd prefer to spend a few hours driving back to Portland with my daughter in her Civic. I'll probably just fly back to Boise on Sunday.

So, I heard last night that my daughter doesn't want to be bored with us old farts and it's too far to drive from her boyfriend's in Port Orchard to pick me up at the airport and take me up to Mt. Vernon and back. Anyone going past SeaTac and up to Mt. Vernon on the 4th, who's not on a motorcycle? I suppose it would be a real adventure to hitch a ride with John, but I'll be bringing back a week's worth of luggage.

That would be tough even for a GoldWing.

..did you bother to remind her of the bill for 18 years of room and board + tuition?

I haven't talked to her yet. She's too chicken. She asked her mom to talk to me. About this time last year we all flew to Spain to visit her and followed her all over the country. Maybe that's why she gets bored so easily.
I'm still waiting for my turn, but I'm afraid I'll die first. I was thinking about it today, though, and I can't remember ever going to visit my folks when I was in college unless I needed money, laundry or room and board. Our daughter must have my genes.

Mark, if you don't find someone to give you a ride, there is a shuttle from SeaTac: Bellair Shuttle

That looks good, although I couldn't find a price posted. I'll find a way there. Wish there was an overnighter from Charlotte to Boise. I'd pick up my car and some guitars in Boise and could be in Mt. Vernon in 8 hours.

I just saw this... If we can't get someone to pick you up at the airport, which shouldn't be too hard anyway, that shuttle actually picks up and drops off at the hotel I'm working with. and is right near my house too.

FWIW, when I need to go to the airport, I take the shuttle. It's so much nicer than driving and having to find a place to park and all. It's a really nice Bus too, not a glorified taxi or anything. Lots of room, very comfy.
