I've watched almost every episode, but don't recall ever seeing a guitar, let alone an Ovation guitar. Was it an episode from the old show or the new one?

Lucky you. I tried for years to find a Dr Who scarf or even someone who could make it for me. Never had any luck.

Just be careful when ordering because most of them are WAY too short. My Mom made me one years ago, back in the late 70's or early 80's, but somehow when I moved it was misplaced. I'm STILL looking for it. But at least now I have one again.

My guessing, is all traffic is going to socialmedia, so making the forum media friendly will help. Like upgrading to Vbulletin. Like having an app. The other reason, the brand is not living its better times. But the new added socialmedia functionality will help the communication between the thousands of Ovation faithful lovers, as me.

AGF has sponsors and craftsmen who participate across many lines. It's hard to compete with Martin, Taylor, Guild, Gibson, etc….etc…and independent private builders, parts suppliers with one company…..Ovation. And then of course it looks, from what I've read, that no more Ovations will be manufactured in the USA. I guess Ovation is having a tough time competing with Rainsong and a few of the others. Then look at the price of an Adamas. The guitars on ebay range from over $2700 to almost $7000 and the lowest new USA Ovation guitar is $3200! One can purchase a USA made Martin MMV dread for less than $1500 and the 000-MMV for $1620. Martin, who has been around for more than 100 years, sells an almost all wood guitar(some Richlite wood product) made in the USA for almost half of what Ovation sells a composite USA made guitar for. That makes it very difficult to compete. Perhaps Ovation needs to look at offering a more traditional looking composite body with a wood top I don't know. JMHO. BTW, this site is a great source of Ovation info and knowledgable owners.

But to really have brand loyalty there must be something different about your product. Ovations are Different. The Ovation USA Factory was closed by closed-minded bean-counters for lack of profit margin. Those same bean-counters would close the Martin factory if Fender owned it, or at least cut wages. My buddy "Larry" owns (and plays) a Martin that cost $35,000 (in the 1990's). And there is nothing fancy about that particular guitar. But it is made out of Old Wood that Martin had been saving for posterity. Some one once pointed-out that Ovation sold every guitar that was ever made at New Hartford. Now... some Dealers may still have Ovations in their possession... But they aren't in Ovation's warehouse. Adamas guitars were competitively priced for the materials used to make them. Composite Acoustics cheapest model (Cargo) runs $900 New. $1000 with electronics, $1200 with color. Other CA guitar prices quickly get up around $3000 or more. Rainsong guitars cost more than CA's from the start. A new Celebrity can cost $200. While an Adamas is listed for $6000 on eBay. But you get what you pay for. Also, you make what you Want to make. Charlie Kaman opened the Ovation Factory to make round-back guitars. He could have chosen to made clones of Martins like everyone else does. But that would not have been the guitar that was on concert stages through-out the 70's. But there would not be an Ovation Fan Club for just another wood-box guitar.

Joined: September 2014 Posts: 16 | I wouldn't buy a Rainsong guitar because I didn't see any I liked with a 1 11/16" nut that I could compare to an Ovation. On the flip side, most Ovations do come with that nut size. I'm in the minority. That closes the door for a lot of people because they may not offer a lot of models with wider nut widths. I don't know if all Rainsong guitars are made in the USA but the low end model sells for about $1500…..the low end Ovation….$3200. How does Rainsong make a profit selling a guitar at 1/2 of what Ovation does? Different guitars? Yes. Different manufacturing process? Yes….I can't blame the Fender "Bean Counters" for halting US production if it's not making money, after all companies as well as individuals need an ROI. Yes, Ovation can make what they want but if they can't make enough money doing that perhaps they need to look at making changes. I'm sure they had to redesign and retool when the came out with the Adamas line, why not do the same to stay afloat and be more competitive and profitable? Just my subjective $.02. LOL

It's not done with a robot, it's human and they use random IP addresses and emails from around the world. They can only post it in the welcome center, so we ban'em and delete'em. For fun, if you have noticed, I turned the word filter on to change certain text they use to words about Ovations. Doesn't really have an affect, but it makes me smile. Anyway, it just comes with the territory. It's has been a daily thing for some time. I have thought of adding a captcha to add an extra step, but that would impede real users as well, so until such point that I or Al get bored clicking the delete key... it's just noise...

I have been playing much more, in several bands of late, and that's what it is really all about, playing and enjoying guitars. Stephen, if you put something together locally, I'd be in if invited.
