I followed Al's lead and put up a recording of my original song - Ladies Night - I did at the Mermaid. It's up on the ning site . Big thanks to Trader Jim and Beal for being my pick-up band at the Mermaid.

I just added a video.
It is taken with my digital still camera so it's not great quality.
The background singers were closer to me so you have to pay attention to the smokey vocal stylings of our man Al.

Bobbo, you started a gallery called That Guy in Ovation Fan Gatherings. Must be because we don't have a section called Non-Ovation Fan Gatherings.

At least Brian and Otto were representin'.

There was a definite connection to a "That Guy" theme at Amelia this year, although I'll continue to deny any knowledge of certain events that may arise in this context, proof to the contrary notwithstanding.

I have over 200 pictures and 8 video clips. About 2 gigs worth.

Even if I edit out the marginal ones, that's still a lot of bits and bites.
We talked about some centeral gathering point for pictures. It might be nice to have these in the original size rather than what the web site will host.
I'd be willing to take point on this. You'd just have to get the photos to me somehow. (Maybe on a disc?) I'll put them in some sort of order and maybe make a DVD slideshow out of them. After that, I can send them out from here.

Let's get into some good stuff.
Take ProfessorBB (aka: the other Brad) for instance.

Now here's a guy who has flown well under the radar at past OFC events. No more. Wait till you hear his "Guy" song. Until then, you'll just have to be happy with this little "If I Could Turn Back Time" moment.

And never, NEVER let him order for you at a resturant. He has an un-canny knack for not getting what he asks for.
And can I get you anything else you didn't want, sir?

Absolutely true. We're sitting on the deck waiting for the waitress to take our breakfast orders. This was Friday, Brad's already had 2 or 3 meals screwed up and isn't going to take anymore. When the waitress looks at him he says clearly, "2 eggs, bacon, NO grits, NO toast."
The waitress starts writing, then says, "I'm sorry, sir, we aren't serving toast this morning." pause... pause...
I lean over to Brad and say, "Is there something else you don't want as a substitute for the toast?"

... and of course he GOT the grits...

Oh, and my favorite quote of the weekend...

Friday night at Beal's house. Steve Sutton (D'Banjo) is retrieving his banjo from Beal's utility/laundry room.

Me: Bill really makes you keep your banjo in here?

Steve: No, he prefers to keep it in the garage with a hose from the car exhaust running to it...

:D

Here's another Sutton-ism.

Steve was asked... "Is there young & upcoming talent out there that can replace the talent and tradition of the "older" musicians".
He replied... "Replace!?... Nobody even told me I was sick!!"

"Is there anything else I can bring you that you don't want?"

Sounds like there might be a song in here somewhere.

Seriously, it was great to meet more of the 'O family' and and trying to hug Big Al.

If this is the thread to express our impressions of the gathering, then I'll post more after my mind regains some circulation. At this point all I can say is WOW... just WOW!

Though most of you troglodytes assume I'm not capable of appreciating high-art, I'm quite versed in the Dutch Masters: Vermeer, Potter, van Goyen, Steen etc... I'm crazy for van Gogh! DaVinci and Angelo were geniuses. Rodan is my hero. Monet and Pissaro really turn me on. Doisneau, Adams, Gowin are incomparable photographers...

and then there's this:

well done.
