Surely a bar/pub/coffee shop/ music store would salivate at the chance to have a group of some sort say, "can we meet at your place?"

But wasn't MWoody cooking up something with Tacoma guitars? (I'm assuming that would be somewhere in Tacoma?)

I am sure Woody is referring to the "make" of Tacoma guitars (which I believe is still in Tacoma) so I doubt that they would embrace a bunch of Ovation/Adamas lovers to sit in their lobby and advertise their wares.

What I was talking about was working with a Dealer/Music Store. They have both Ovation and Tacoma distributions.
There are at least three of us OFC Members that I see posting on the UTGF and the tone at their site is similar, if not more kid friendly than it is here.
A little friendly competitiveness with a Tacoma/Ovation gathering could be enjoyable. When Tacoma guitars hit the market they started with their "Wing" series, where the soundhole was in the upper bout. This meant that they were "different".
I think we'd get along just fine.

Camraderie with a little spice is much better than complacent agreement. IMO.

I'll bring real (Canadian) beer. Any preferences?
(although, with the booming microbrew industry, I'm sure there are now many good suds available down there now too....)

Well, depending on head count, i would be happy to have the gathering at my house. I think 10 of us could easily find room to mill around. Above that, it would get a bit crowded however.

Anyway, as plans develop, this option is available.

If we drink Canadian beer, I'll be forced to tell my metric Molson ten pack story. If Canada had homeland security back then they wouldn't let me into the country anymore.

See, now that's almost worth the trip all in it's own! And I can share many of our indigenous metric stories...
....metric time,
....switching to this 'degrees calcium' thing (40 below C and F is the same thing. "F-ing cold!"),
....and on and on
:D
........................................
We still don't have homeland security! But we catch our terrorists BEFORE they do their deeds.

Rain? What rain? Who's been telling you it rains?

The north end of the Sonora desert pokes 1/2 a mile into B.C! By gum. (course....it's about 400 miles from where I am....)

The last time there was a national Porsche convention in Portland they set it for a week in August because it hadn't rained during that week in something like 17 years. Of course it rained all week. Funny to watch those guys whose cars had never been wet freak out. Hydroplaning during the autocross was also a kick.

Opps, my bad, sorry Woody. I thought you were actually referring to the Tacoma factory.

Have we lost interest in this, or is it just percolating?

percolating, I think.

August 5th in the Portland area somewhere.. possibly at gh1's.

Only takers so far are myself, Mark in Boise, gh1, and fillhixx. (Oh, and schroeder! :) ) Seems like we need at least a couple more to make it worth you're driving down.

Depending on where we end up, an outing to the Vista House may be fun, but we certainly couldn't pull off the whole shindig there.

gh1, what part of town are you in? Feel free to PM me.

Not sure how any of this plays into MWoody's idea...

Just percolating i hope, i'm looking forward to it -- wherever it ends up.

I'm in the inner/central SE. Belmont/Hawthorn area, 33rd and Yamhill.

And, the offer still stands, i'd be happy to host the gathering at my house. Barbeque and beers on ice.

I still think it is a great idea, but you picked the one weekend I cannot sacrifice. My Grandmothers 90th birthday. She is living on her own, does most of her own yard work and will kick the snot out of me if I miss this one.

She is willing to go for a ride on the Goldwing, or in the airplane, so can't really miss this one, now can I.

Anyway...will be with you in spirit...

Jeff - you obviously need to sit her on the Goldwing or in the plane and take to the OFC NW Gathering. Tell her it's time she learned how to play a guitar.

I have had 4 vacations so far this year and I would love to be there for this - but I'll be on vacation!!!!! :D :D :D :D

The Pacific Northwest just happens to BE a vacation destination! (not as cheap as Spain, but more affordable than Paris) ;)

If you think spains cheap please feel free to send a cheque to cover my recent suprise tax bill and mortgage set up costs . A sum of money that would have allowed me Mrs Drift and Drift junior to have arrived for the OFC tour and still be in the US for the Northwest gathering. Infact I could probably have stayed long enough to have Drift bump born in the US in september. Not that Im bitter and twisted and in need of a slightley better accountant!!!!

O
As a new member, and as a northwest resident, I'd like to attend. However, I have to drop my son off at SeaTac early on the 6th, so it's probably the only weekend I won't be able to make it...unless, of course, the venue was changed to be closer to Seattle.
