The wooden back was made by a Philippino luthier over a momth while I was living/working in Cebu. The unbelievable thing, he made it for 250.00 US dollar.s The workmanship is terriffic and the materials are also first rate.
Both battery holders are located in the waist, but 301081 has no retention screw like 301904 (in the waist next to the volume knob)

The furry thing on the wall is a rat, nailed there to warn the others....(Or it may be... a flint knife with coyote jaw handle, in a fur lined sheath, given to me by Alfred Yazzi, a Navajo Chanter (read shaman) as a gift.

What the hell is a stapling project? I'm stumped. I suspect that I am missing the obvious, but cut me a break, you've seen the picture I posted of myself.

The wooden bowl sounds a bit like my 6774 folklore unplugged, though not nearly as loud and a bit more jangly. It is the lightest full size guitar, bar none, that I have ever held.

So far as the shiny rocks go....that was Steve Chapman that was interested in aquiring them (not me with the FD14 :D ).
All the shiny rocks at my house have been aquired by my loving and understanding wife. She typically wears them on her fingers, around her neck, etc. She considers then the equalizers to my guitars ;) . |

apee-poly-logies, for wiffin' on the stapled pet reference. I usually "get" your quips on posts, but on this one I thought, "stapling a guitar together?"
I will seek out the article you mention. I have been to the Philippines alot. There are many really talented luthiers in open air shops and small production facilities. They are very skilled and take great pride in their work. Many use quality US guitars as a template insteasd of designing their own, but use local woods.
The back of the wooden roundbowl is made from a local wood, in English, called Jackwood. Very characteristic of Mahogany. |

Location: NJ | I'm not positive, but I believe Jackwood was used on the guitar in the article. The "article" guitar didn't even come from a patttern . . . at the luthier's request, the kid in the PeaceCorps scanned a photo of Dave Matthews' guitar from a magazine photo, traced the outline of the body with AdobeIllustrator, he then "guessed" what the dimensions SHOULD be, and then printed it out onto 8.5"x11" sheets that were tiled togther to make a "pattern . . . |

The bowl is bookmatched from one piece of wood. It was carved and steamed to shape. There are no "sides" to this guitar. Each half of the pearled body seam rolls up and round attached to the top at the Mother of Pearl binding |

That is indeed how this guitar came to be. This guitar was made in 2002 (before I even knew about OFC) and based on my shallow bowl SMT. |
