If it costs you money you are an amateur. If you earn money you are semi-pro/pro. If you fixed up friends' cars for them and you were out of pocket every time would you consider yourself a semi-pro mechanic?

It is good to ask "Who am I?" on occasion. Unfortunately it only leads to more questions!

Nice Twist!

""""""If it costs you money you are an amateur. If you earn money you are semi-pro/pro."""""

That might have been a better way to put it. We cannot edit the questions once the poll is set. Please bare with it.

I would have liked to have checked 2 boxes -- semi pro (but that's a very loose inturpretation), and how I actually feel most of the time -- Rookie!

I was looking at the options, and had a bit of trouble between Semi Pro and Pro, as I often get a little money for playing with this band or that band (last night as an example). Thought about it for a few moments, and realised that I'm definately semi-pro, as in terms of Amps, Guitars, and PA gear, it definately costs me money!!

If I could stop buying new guitars, I'd be "pro" by these definitions!! Anyone know the number for Guitars Anonymous?

As long as I don't have to go cold turkey, I'll be fine!

Off-topic - if it is Alcoholics Anonymous, why is the first thing you have to do is stand up and say "My name's JB, and I'm an alcoholic"?

JB

(just realised this could be taken in the wrong vein for quite a serious subject... just to clarify, my Dad liked a drink or twelve. The above question was something I always wondered, and made me giggle whenever it just got too bad. If there's any major offence called, let me know and I'll get rid of it...)

I myself am a social GASser. I have never missed work from playing to much guitar the night before. I have only five stringed instruments in my living room. To some that may seem excessive however they are not more than I can handle. My family's main concern is that the latest addition was a uke. I am being closley monitored but have not exhibited any signs of advanced symptoms.
Remember.....always play responsibly.
And friends don't let friends play certain makes of guitars.

If you want to know the advanced symptoms of uke playing, read some of Cruster's posts.... ;)

singing songs off key on the OFC board,
posting links to uke websites,
giving out tabs to converted guitar songs
(and the most serious offense), singing on top of spaghetti! :p

(Please note I have marked all the uke links in my favorites folder in case I come down with this seemingly terminal illness!)

I resemble that remark.

You're just jealous, T28, because you don't know all the lyrics. Like the mush and moss verses. Yeah, I know your kind. All puffed up, big man by day. But, as soon as the sun starts to set, you come a-runnin' to the ol' Cruster-man, lookin' for your fix. It's alright, I can take it...dish out your best. Oh, and remember, the first one's free...

It rolled in the garden,
And under a bush.
And then my poor meatball,
Turned into mush.

Yeah, you'll be back for more...I know your kind.

=D

Cruster,
Truth be told, I was next in line to get the palm tree uke! I thought for sure, the boss would put her foot down at your place and it would be mine!

Anyway, the cravings have temporarily subsided with the impeding delivery of my 12 fret Adamas.

but like I said.....I have marked all the pertinent links for future reference!

OK...you win!
I reread your post and I DID KNOW the mush verse but not the moss verse.

Please sing it for me....(but not too loud!)

Stephen....
A suggestion....When the time comes look into the Applause tenor uke. It has an OP-24 pre-amp and might offer a better unplugged sound. I really like my soprano but someday I might upgrade. It costs about twice as much but don't worry. You can afford it. :D

Stephen...I know where there's a matching palm tree parlor for sale. Want me to forward the info?

If I'm very quiet, I can hear it calling your name!

The uke is really just a blast...everyone mocks the uke, until you get it out and start playing. Then it's 'rock the uke!' I'm with Slipkid...the sopranois fine, but the tenor has a certain appeal. Maybe one to match my Elite..hrmm...
